toofarnorth Posted 4 June, 2010 Share Posted 4 June, 2010 The bbc is reporting Rio has been taken to hospital following an injury sustained during training. Who would you replace him with in the starting line up if necessary: King Upson Carragher Think i'd have to go with Carragher

GenevaSaint Posted 4 June, 2010 Share Posted 4 June, 2010 If he was out of the tournament full stop I'd draft Dawon in but play Carragher.

toofarnorth Posted 4 June, 2010 Author Share Posted 4 June, 2010 They have until 24 hours before the first game to call up a replacement. Guess its just wait and see at the moment. Bet Dawson's got his voodoo doll out.

Saint_Donovan Posted 4 June, 2010 Share Posted 4 June, 2010 Sky are reporting that Dawson is on stand by. I'd give the captains armband to gerrard, perhaps it may be the kick he needs for him to finally reproduce club form on the international stage

I'd give the captains armband to gerrard, perhaps it may be the kick he needs for him to finally reproduce club form on the international stage Gerrard doesn't need a kick anywhere, he just needs to play in the correct position. TBF he looked good playing a freeish role on the left, but it is the fact Lampard can't defend for tofee that nullifies Gerrards attacking instincts. The9 Posted 4 June, 2010 Share Posted 4 June, 2010 Just realised that the match Drogba was playing in is that "three halves" game with Japan I read about the other day. All 23 squad players are playing for both sides and the game is 135 minutes long split into 3 x 45 minute periods. That's going to cost them if the injury is true. We all know how deadly Kalou is from 5 yards with an open goal...

The9 Posted 4 June, 2010 Share Posted 4 June, 2010 To be fair he went off injured after about 15 minutes. Yeah, and he wouldn't have been playing more than 90 anyway, they planned on extending it to get everyone a game. I've started a new thread for it, much bigger news than Ferdinand's injury anyway. http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=23009

wild-saint Posted 4 June, 2010 Share Posted 4 June, 2010 Rio Ferdinand has hobbled out of England's first training session in South Africa, but the more worrying news for me is that he suffered the injury being "turned by Emile Heskey". Pretty bad news all round

I don't think i have ever seen that big lump challenge anyone, and now he has injured the england captain !! I understand the arguement that he can be very error prone (Rio) but when he is good, he is very good and has a decent partnership with Terry. Um Bongo Posted 4 June, 2010 Share Posted 4 June, 2010 (edited) The injury wasn't caused by Heskey himself. It was caused from the embarrassment in being turned by Heskey. Edited 4 June, 2010 by Um Bongo

dubai_phil Posted 4 June, 2010 Share Posted 4 June, 2010 Will this be King's moment? IF he plays to his club form then he will be a better choice than Rio who has been off the pace all year and so this could be good news. But if we lst another CB - Upson or Carragher against anyone other than a barn door - ouch

Such an unfortunate time to get injured. For me he was the best centre back in the league the season before last, infact he was probably the reason Man city spent so much money on Lescott.
