RonManager Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 On SaintsPlayer. Can't see that it needed it myself, especially as it was voted pitch of the year. Perhaps the new pitch will be white with a red sash!!
Colinjb Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 Maybe the FA called in a favour for Wembley. Hope they paid us well for the old grass.
RonManager Posted 4 June, 2010 Author Posted 4 June, 2010 Maybe the FA called in a favour for Wembley. Hope they paid us well for the old grass. lol: I wonder what happens to the old turf?
jasoneuelllfanclub Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 I think it is normal to relay the pitch prior to start of a new season. They wouldn't want the same pitch withstanding another season even if it is the best pitch in the country.
Colinjb Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 lol: I wonder what happens to the old turf? Good question. I would have given them good money for it over easter. But now my lawn has been relaid with B & Q's finest, no need.
toofarnorth Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 I'm sure they'll have enough time to seed it as well which will be a lot less expensive than turfing it. I guess they just dont take it for granted that the pitch will be great and this is pre-emptive action to ensure it is.
saint_stevo Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 the forum match and nickh's clumpy chunkers ruined it

According to the commentary the remaining subsoil will be mixed with 180 tons of sand, then fertlized and watered.
John Boy Saint Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 When we were in the Prem apparently it was the norm to rip up the pitch and re lay it, which is a job that costs even for us £100k. We went on a tour after the first season at SMS, the lady taking us around said that when she saw the pitch for the last game she thought the pitch looked superb, when she came in the next week with a tour group the first glimpse of the pitch on the tour was from one of the boxes and she was shocked to find the pitch had disappeared. I would have thought that it would have been better to just leave it another season when you consider the ploughed fields we have struggled on this last season: a few bomb holes on the SMS pitch might work in our favour. ;-)
doubleonothing Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 When was the last time it was relayed out of interest? Was it done last year or was the last time just before Claus' testimonial?
Colinjb Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 (edited) When was the last time it was relayed out of interest? Was it done last year or was the last time just before Claus' testimonial? I would imagine we had higher issues last summer. Edited 4 June, 2010 by Colinjb
doubleonothing Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 I would imagine we had higher issues summer. You know I think you might be right!
Matthew Le God Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 Can't see that it needed it myself, especially as it was voted pitch of the year. ! I think they reseed it pretty much every summer. It works aswell, given how many times The Dell and St Mary's pitch has won awards.
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 Ah man, going by the title I thought it was going to be 4 x 100m or something. Dissamappointing.
REDARMY79 Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 It definitely needs relaying in the goal areas, I scratched my knees to bits last week in the warm up. Grass was amazing but just below the surface was griity as hell!
Master Bates Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 lol: I wonder what happens to the old turf? They just turf it out. I'd like us to have a white pitch, with the lines, areas and penalty spots all green. Anyone fancy mocking up a picture for me :smt102
northam soul Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 They should sell all the old stuff off as i am sure us fans would buy loads of it as it will be a damn sight better than the crap we all buy for our gardens. I know i would of had a load for sure.
INFLUENCED.COM Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 It definitely needs relaying in the goal areas, I scratched my knees to bits last week in the warm up. Grass was amazing but just below the surface was griity as hell! So you came away with scratched knees and a bad back !!
Saint Fan CaM Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 is it the 100m or 400m relay Haha. I had the same vision when I saw the OP title. Was imagining the groundsmen painting running track lines around the pitch! lol
david in sweden Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 is it the 100m or 400m relay it doesn't matter, as long as it's OK to... bat-on . oops sorry !
REDARMY79 Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 So you came away with scratched knees and a bad back !! Spot On!!
Horley CTFC Saint Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 Perhaps they're trying to make the pitch more like the dross we're going to come up against next season in an effort to get us playing better on 'those' pitches Why not just replace it with sand?
Jonnyboy Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 They should sell all the old stuff off as i am sure us fans would buy loads of it as it will be a damn sight better than the crap we all buy for our gardens. I know i would of had a load for sure. good idea!
Johnny Shearer Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 They should sell all the old stuff off as i am sure us fans would buy loads of it as it will be a damn sight better than the crap we all buy for our gardens. I know i would of had a load for sure. With or without the surcharge?
richardc Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 my little boy played in the matt le tissier tournament on Sunday and said it was amazing - they were given a tour of the staduim but they had to change in the away changing room as some skate b*stards had smashed up the home changing room in a tournament on the saturday

SNSUN Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 It's healthier for the players - imagine how much gob is on that old pitch, I bet there are a few diseases hidden in that sod.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 Wonder if this year they'll take the time to dig up the Pimpley shirt from under the centre circle and the Pimpley goalie gloves allegedly buried under the goal mouth in front the Northam? Nah, I didn't believe that b0ll0x either.
saint_bert Posted 5 June, 2010 Posted 5 June, 2010 Is it my eyes or are the seats on the Itchen side red and white? Have they changed them?
Saint_clark Posted 5 June, 2010 Posted 5 June, 2010 Is it my eyes or are the seats on the Itchen side red and white? Have they changed them? It's your eyes, at the start of the clip the Itchen is to the left, the stand you see in the background is the chapel.
djharvey Posted 5 June, 2010 Posted 5 June, 2010 Is it my eyes or are the seats on the Itchen side red and white? Have they changed them? Reckon that pic is from the saints/pimpey game!
suewhistle Posted 5 June, 2010 Posted 5 June, 2010 It definitely needs relaying in the goal areas, I scratched my knees to bits last week in the warm up. Grass was amazing but just below the surface was griity as hell! Pah, you should try some of the Italian pitches we have to put up with. Our home pitch is fine, but you should see the awful state of some of the ones around Turin - barely any grass. I always have a big tub of vaseline in my bag and spread it liberally on my knees and exposed leg as I have an English reputation for sliding tackles to maintain!
Saint_clark Posted 5 June, 2010 Posted 5 June, 2010 Reckon that pic is from the saints/pimpey game! Ah sorry, thought he was talking about the video not the picture
