spyinthesky Posted 1 June, 2010 Posted 1 June, 2010 Anyone heard the LP track he recorded celebrating our Cup Final win of 1976? Appreciate non of this makes any sense to those of you of a young persuasion
St Landrew Posted 1 June, 2010 Posted 1 June, 2010 No, I didn't know he did one. Used to get a kick out of selecting Funky Moped on the pub jukebox, to p!ss off my Yamaha FS1E riding mate, though.
doubleonothing Posted 1 June, 2010 Posted 1 June, 2010 I seem to remember hearing about this, though I've never heard the actual track. Always struck me as odd though. He's a Birmingham City fan isn't he?
SaintlyAnd Posted 1 June, 2010 Posted 1 June, 2010 Think I used to have it on cassette (probably still do somewhere). Can't remember much of it though.

Saint_John Posted 2 June, 2010 Posted 2 June, 2010 Looked it up. It's on a LIVE album called Carrott in Notts. I've got that record on vinyl (DJF 20482) and the far better "In the Club" on tape from his Folk Club days. Unfortunately I have no method for transferring them onto digital. I don't think he wrote the song, it was written by a friend from the Folk Club circuit who came from Southampton but who's name escapes me.
MorningtonCrescent Posted 2 June, 2010 Posted 2 June, 2010 Indeed, Carrott in Notts on the old LP thick vinyl! I've transferred it to MP3 somewhere! I'll trawl around to see if I can find it!
saint boggy Posted 2 June, 2010 Posted 2 June, 2010 My brother has got this too and i recently transferred it from vinyl to MP3 but couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get it from his iTunes folder to here...... (am a complete iTunes ignoramous!) ....
ericofarabia Posted 2 June, 2010 Posted 2 June, 2010 This is all news to me too, looking forward to possibly hearing it.!! If anybody can get it on here, could they also do his version of 12 Days of Xmas .... absolutely brilliant

If you're able to get the vinyl record to me, SJ, I can transfer that record to MP3 for you. If you know anyone on here who can PM me, pop your details along and I'll respond.

Anyhow, I remembered my Camera could take movies so I had a go with min pixels to keep the size down. http://s298.photobucket.com/albums/mm258/Saint_John_Photos/Football/Cup_Final_76/?action=view¤t=Jasper_Cup_Final_76.flv
doubleonothing Posted 2 June, 2010 Posted 2 June, 2010 Fantastic. Thanks for that. First time I've actually heard it.
hamster Posted 3 June, 2010 Posted 3 June, 2010 didn`t know about that and now want a copy Buy it here: http://www.musicstack.com/item.cgi?item=115261496
svetigpung Posted 7 June, 2010 Posted 7 June, 2010 Fan BLOODY tastic Mr.Jasper Carrot had a great act, long before he started on the box. Our family would buy his recordings on cassette tapes and listen to them on the journeys down to Cornwall for our sommer hols. I also remember his account of Birmingham away at Man U during the fighting on the terraces days. Bovril! Great memories.
ooh it's a corner Posted 7 June, 2010 Posted 7 June, 2010 I think it starts with..... Twas on the very first of May, to Wembley I did roam, I did not have a ticket so I watched the match at home, I loaded up with tv snacks and several crates of beer, I slung a toilet roll at next door's cat for atmosphere... nnnnaahhhhh silly sod
Saint_John Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 As things are quiet at the moment I taken some time to copy my Vinyl LP of "Jasper Carrott's FA Cup 76" into a video. I've added some pictures and videos close to the words with the exception of the line about the "TV on the blink", which because we were outnumbered 3 to 1 on the day and were told that we would not be heard on TV, I have shown Saints fans in full voice here to illustrate that we were loud on the day and could be heard on TV. There are a couple of sections cut out of order e.g. the 2nd offside is actually in the last min after we were 1-0 up. I have also borrowed a picture that somebody on here did for another line.
swisscottager Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 Thanks a million! Made me cry watching the highlights from the best ever day!Brilliant video to accompany those words. Good old Jasper!
Islander Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 I had totally forgotten all about that track - it was only when I saw the album cover that the bells started to ring! Thanks St.John for the video - great memories and I found myself remembering the punchlines of the song!
spyinthesky Posted 25 March, 2013 Author Posted 25 March, 2013 I have the track somewhere on a dusty cassette Always seemed strange to me that he recorded it as a lifelong Birmingham fan Anyone heard his story about going to Hampden for a Scotland v England game? The Brum visit to Old Trafford and the 'Cowin Bovril' pieces were good too!!

Fair play - that is a great video you put together to go with the song. Virtual beers winging their way towards you right now... Cheers.
