dubai_phil Posted 1 June, 2010 Posted 1 June, 2010 Peralada Wine Spa near Gerona Spain. Close enough to drive to the Costa, Pyrennees (sp?) Golf courses all around, great local towns to explore and a Casino with a really good restaurant for dressing up posh. Oh and LOTS of really good wine http://www.google.ae/search?hl=en&rlz=1T4SMSN_enAE371AE371&q=golf+peralada+wine+spa&revid=2091848679&ei=Mc8ETLHAE4vX4gbI1_XLDg&sa=X&oi=revisions_inline&resnum=0&ct=broad-revision&cd=1&ved=0CD4Q1QIoAA

Scummer Posted 1 June, 2010 Posted 1 June, 2010 Hotel Leela Goa Have they brought Concorde back? He said max 4 hours flight.
Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 1 June, 2010 Posted 1 June, 2010 Have they brought Concorde back? He said max 4 hours flight. Oops:rolleyes:
sambosa75 Posted 1 June, 2010 Posted 1 June, 2010 I'd do Hurghada in Egypt. You'll get a great deal with that budget. It sounds typically "Brit abroad" mentality but do some research first and go to a hotel with a private beach that doesnt allow Russians to stay there. If you go to a hotel that allows Russians you have to put up with their awful food (steamed cabbage in 40 degree heat anyone?!) plus their rudeness. They are notoriously rude travellers.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 1 June, 2010 Posted 1 June, 2010 Magaluf. They have crappy trampolines where you can leave your kids all night while you go out on the p!ss. Win/win situation.

dubai_phil Posted 1 June, 2010 Posted 1 June, 2010 I'm looking more for a childrens/wife holiday with a beach & a bar. Wake up Swim Eat Swim Eat Drink Sleep Shame you are tied to the 4 hour flight thingy but with kids that is understandable Stayed here once. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g227947-d250773-Reviews-Vila_Gale_Marina_Hotel-Vilamoura_Algarve.html The Ex wife wanted to sit on the beach every other day(about a 3 minute walk) I wanted to play golf & eat drink & sleep and bumble around exploring in a rental car. Was a perfectly average hotel with perfectly average facilities and in a perfectly perfect location. Don't normally like package tour type hotels but this one was ok. Hell I even managed to spend a few hours sitting by the pool. The marina in the evenings has all the restaurants you could want with kids and the rental car gets you away from the masses. But for a REAL holiday http://www.asiawebdirect.com/vietnam/hoi-an/beach-front/swiss_belhotel-golden-sand-resort-and-spa/ Book a tour and follow the Top Gear route, but this hotel & beach are simply stunning the town is simply a MUST see. But to get there from UK involves at least two plane changes via Hong Kong or somewhere so not one for the kids yet

Im going for my Honeymoon in 26 days time and the reviews are great.
red and white saint Posted 1 June, 2010 Posted 1 June, 2010 I agree with dubai_phil about Vilamoura on the algarve stayed in quite a few of the hotels there and they are all very good and its only a 2 hour flight
Townhillsaintsfan Posted 1 June, 2010 Posted 1 June, 2010 Cala d'or in Majorca was pretty good. Have been their twice in consecutive years. Recognised alot of faces from the previous year the second time so it must be good enough to make people come again. Pools, beaches, coves, restaurants plus little fun parks with go-carts and such.
dubai_phil Posted 1 June, 2010 Posted 1 June, 2010 Is Egypt any good? Child friendly? Beer any good? Lots of people love Egypt and the Red Sea resorts for the Sun and the "sense of being somewhere different". Trouble is in Aug/early Sept it will be roasting. Also because you will go all inclusive you get a package tour version of this region. I've not been to Hurghada but have been to Aqaba & Sharm Al Sheikh and to be honest, would have preferred Magalluf. If you want a beach and 36C or more every day with a fake belly dancer or two and a lot of Russians.... BUT if it was a part of an Egyptian TOUR that took in Cairo, The Pyramids, the Cairo Museum, a Nile Cruise and The Valley of the Kings then it would be bearable. Take Ecrefuryl from a local chemist out there though, Immodium won't hack it Personally I really love the real Egypt and hate the Red Sea resorts
suewhistle Posted 1 June, 2010 Posted 1 June, 2010 I'm looking more for a childrens/wife holiday with a beach & a bar. Wake up Swim Eat Swim Eat Drink Sleep Ah, you don't want any more kids then? I'm sure the Red Sea would be far too hot, but then I'm a skier/sailing type. How do the Russians get on with the Italians, as based on the travel agents here loads of them must go there? Personally I'm going to Cyprus in October: £100 and staying with my sister!
JustMike Posted 1 June, 2010 Posted 1 June, 2010 Gran Canaria, 4 hrs flight. we went in november and it was awesome.
Dog Posted 1 June, 2010 Author Posted 1 June, 2010 Avoid Minorca. Why avoid? We went there 2 years ago and had a great time, it was a bit expensive and not a lot to do there, but all my children wanted to do was swim in the sea, build sandcastles and eat.
saintkiptanui Posted 1 June, 2010 Posted 1 June, 2010 Is Egypt any good? Child friendly? Beer any good? You will get squitty quits as will the missus and your kids, stay clear. Olu Dinez in Turkey has a lovely beach and with that budget you can pick the best hotel in the area
Townhillsaintsfan Posted 1 June, 2010 Posted 1 June, 2010 I think Minorca is seen as the quieter Island compared to Majorca and Ibiza. More bars, clubs and evening entertainment on the later two and pehaps sites to visit?
scotty Posted 1 June, 2010 Posted 1 June, 2010 Why avoid? We went there 2 years ago and had a great time, it was a bit expensive and not a lot to do there, but all my children wanted to do was swim in the sea, build sandcastles and eat. because I'm going there myself. No offence;)
