Adu link

Graffito

Recommended Posts

Applying a bit of Spanish to this Portuguese article, I think this says he will transfer subject to a medical and work permit and agreement with Benfica and Aris:

Adu no Southampton

Still not credible but it is a a quiet news day.

Direct translation with BabelFish

"Freddy Adu is the way of the Southampton, club that actua in the League One, equivalent to II the Portuguese Division. The advanced one waits the medical examinations and the license of work to stamp the transference, therefore the English club already arrived the agreement with the Benfica, also negotiating with the Aris de Salónica, where it would have to be up to 2010/11."

Pretty much says we have near enough concluded a deal but as Graffito says, just waiting on work permit and medical

Looks promising to have an article from within Portugal but I am not holding my breath

Google translate suggests it's close to a done deal. Still don't know how reliable that website is though.

Freddy Adu is on his way to Southampton, the club that operates in League One, equivalent to the Portuguese second division. The advanced medical examinations and awaiting work permit to seal the transfer, as the English club has reached an agreement with Benfica, also trading with Aris Thessaloniki, where it should stay until 2010 / 11.

You're a 16 year old Freddy Adu, labelled the 'new pele' by pele himself, in the USA national team, and hailed as the leader of the 'Soccer' revolution in north America. Where do you see yourself 5 years down the line?

English League 1 with southampton fc? unlikely!

still what a coup for the club

I bet he didn't see himself on loan at Aris Thessaloniki F.C. either...

It's only one article in Portugal. Not sure what Scudamore was posting but I can't see anything on there.

My point is that if it were to appear on those websites then i will start paying attention...

As it stands...being told it's subject to a medical (ie. terms agreed) when the man himself said he knew nothing about it just yesterday...well it's all a bit silly isn't it really?

Having said that i would cream my jeans if it turned out to be true...

is this the big signing to increase ST sales?? If so i think it will work, will be a masive masive signing!!

Good possibility. Hold back season tickets, sign a massive name, fans can't believe it, take interest and want to watch them play, spend on good value season tickets, everyones happy!

Hope this rumour does have some legs because this will get most of the football world noticing what we are trying to achieve down here! COYR!

I remember reading FourFourTwo many years ago and an article on the most promising young players in world football. Wayne Rooney was at number 2 and guess who was at number 1...yes, Mr Adu! He was said to have more potential and a bigger future than Rooney so don't know what on earth has happened over the years to mean he just hasn't come anywhere close to what was predicted of him. Nonetheless, I would still be delighted with the signing, as obviously the ability is there...somewhere.

those writing off Rocket on 606...

He said that there was a striker who played in the premier League last year, played over 40 times for his country and at a world cup. 3 weeks later we find out we have signed David Connolly.

He also informed us of Jaidi.

He was also slated when he said that Kenwyne Jones would be going to Sunderland for a fee + Stern John.

There have been others aswell...

He works in some form of media, and obviously being in the media there are times he is wrong. But to write off what he says when he has got some big signings right in the past...?

There clearly is some truth in this. He fits the bill for the "Big Signing" that will coincide with the release of ST sales and he fits perfectly into what seems to be pards vision of an attacking 4-5-1 with

Davis

Calderon???

Fonte

Jaidi

Harding

Punch

Spiderman

Hammond

Lalla

Adu

Lambert

Spend 5 minutes on YouTube looking at Adu's obvious ability and just picture him at SMS running at Rochdale's back 4. I have no doubt that he would run riot in this league.

I'm not saying that Rocket is 100%, I'm not saying we ARE going to sign Adu, but the fact that both Portuguese AND the U.S Press are reporting on this, there has to be some truth in it.

The Portuguese reports would appear to suggest this is a happening thing, not just scuttlebutt. The planets would still have to align I guess, especially regards a work permit, but then plenty of US players are at UK clubs (maybe more current US caps though).

Looks like Benfica want out if they sent him on an 18 month loan, however Aris are a major Greek club from Thessaloniki which, I think, is the second city of Greece and they play in Europe regularly.

Maybe Freddy has lost his way a little bit, but those video highlights are simply awesome! The pace, skill, running off the ball (check it out), finishing and vision to pick a pass are something to see (and indeed something you don't normally see in L1). He can actually take a decent corner as well (probably the reason Pards is interested!).

Really hope this comes off now, or else we're all going to be very disappointed. Hey, a strike force of Rickie and Freddy sounds great, or maybe more like an entrant in the Eurovision Song Contest perhaps....

Maybe the medical bit sure but they must have got it from somewhere and I very much doubt it was 606 or tribal football.

Wasn't someone on here the son of the the club doctor and was ITK about players undergoing medicals?

he doesn't need to have known about it for the clubs to have agreed a price.

It's what he makes of it WHEN he is aware...

i'm sure it doesn't work like that.

Agents will make a player aware that a club is poised to make a bid.

clubs usually sound out an agent prior to making an official bid (ok, it may be classed as tapping up but it happens everywhere)

Adu's stock has dropped massively in the last 5 years. Personally I think the Championship is about his level, & that's where we'll be after this coming season. It would be a good fit, provided he is willing to up his work rate.

cheers.

not sure what to make of this - obviously some contact has been made and pard's did say we appointed a few european scouts last summer, so we're obviously aware of players avaliability.

It seems odd the Portuguese site would monitor the Southampton page on 606 for a story if that is where they got it.

Maybe it started on 606, Tribal football picked it up from there and then the Portuguese site got it from tribal football.

Thus a rumour snowball effect started with each stage adding "credibility" to the others even though the original rumour has no foundation.

If I started up a Twitter account as Wayne Rooney and tweeted "Just going to have talks with Alan Pardew" would you believe that? How do you know that really is Freddy Adu?

it only goes back to january...

Jan 13th - Jon Otsemobor

is the only one I can find.

He also posted about Jelle Van Damme going to Wolves on the 14th May...?
