Would be a good signing...will get us noticed more. But he hasn't fulfilled the potential he was given as a 15 year old. Much like Walcott.

I feel this would be Much Adu About Nothing.

Does anyone get a sense of de ja vu? :-)

Yes, he'd be a high profile signing, but his career has taken a tumble - can we make him the man version of the kid that had so much promise?

Would prefer Papa or antonio back anyday. This boy has done nothing for years. He was used by Nike to be their 'brand' in the USA as he had massive potential which unfortunately he didnt fulfill hence why he is playing for a greek team no one has heard of.

So we should only sign players who are going to the World Cup?

no but it gives you an idea of how he has fallen, i'd prefer lallana anyday.

Not suggesting that, just saying he has fallen by the wayside somewhat, he was in the sqaud at the age of 16 but now plays in greece for an un heard of team.

Unheard of by us - they apparently finished fourth in their top flight last season.

Hope this is true = incredible signing and massive statement of intent for future.

He was 'The Dogs' back when he was 14, but I was reading an article on him in 442 recently and he really hasn't lived up to the hype...regardless, still WAY to good for League1.

He might see it as a move to get his career back on track...Maybe too much pressure got to him at a young age and he rushed to European big clubs and didn't produce...coming here may be very good for him...

I'd be incredibly impressed if we pulled this signing off

I know this poster's sentence was quite long, it had over 5 words but I dont think this is what he said is it?

Comments like this should now be infractionable!

Come on mods make a massive statemment of intent for the future and start handing out infraction points for nonsense/cringey posts.

I'd be astonished if he signed, but like others have already said - it shows how far he has recently declined

I don't doubt that we have made an enquiry

This would suggest Papa Waigo probably won't return

Just cos I think the story is a load of w*nk, doesn't mean I wouldn't fercking love it to be true! (Don't tell him it's a step down from Benefica!) :)

Have you told him on twitter he could be playing for a billionaire, in an English speaking county with "similar" culture to his homeland, in a shiny 32k stadium and winning League One winners medal in front of crowds of 20k+ yet? :D

I did mention the billionaire!

How come my thread of this was closed yesterday?

I find it amusing how there are people on here saying they would like us to sign Papa Waigo permanantly but right Freddy Adu off because he "failed to live upto the hype."

guys who are capable of this...

- At the age of just 16, don't lose that abilty down a drainpipe all of a sudden.

He was hyped at an incredibly young age and it affected him. Benfica are trying to gently get him back to his best. If they see us a way to get him there, I certainly ain't gonna grumble just because he "failed" to be what he was "hyped" to be.

Papa Waigo or Freddy Adu... LOL.

Unheard of? Aris are one of the top teams in Greek, beaten cup finalists this season, played in Europe on many occassions. Of course he is owned by that unheard of Portuguese team Benfica.
