sadoldgit Posted 26 September, 2008 Share Posted 26 September, 2008 Killer is not the first player to play when he shouldn't have and will not be the last. Perhaps it is best that we find out now if he is likely to make it through the season. If he can't play two games a week then maybe we need to find someone who can. As great as he was in his prime, we can't carry passengers now.
um pahars Posted 26 September, 2008 Share Posted 26 September, 2008 it looks even more deliberate. So are you saying that JP played Killer, and refused to sub him, knowing he would break down and would then be out for a while?? Surely there's an easier way of not playing Killer at the weekend: Jan: "Mikey, we go with the young defence giving us high pressure attack defending for the important vital game, so yu will have to sit out Saturday. You're still in my brain dreams, so get your muscles fit and we can use you for the special match." So now you think we have a manager that grinds his players into the ground as opposed to not selecting them:rolleyes::rolleyes:

saintwarwick Posted 26 September, 2008 Share Posted 26 September, 2008 any news on Wayne Thomas' injury?? Bloke who sits behind me in the Itchen said he isn't injured but wasn't being played so they did not have to pay appearance money. He said his mate spoke to Wayne on a night out about it. Can't say as I believe it really but you never know.

Dark Munster Posted 26 September, 2008 Share Posted 26 September, 2008 Michael Svensson or Marian Pahars however good a player they were once their legs have gone they've had it I'm sorry to say - wishing it otherwise won't change that . It does make you wonder why he was offered a 1-year deal (with an optional 2nd year), when he was already on a perfectly good (for both parties) pay-as-you-play contract? :smt017 Oh, maybe to placate us idiot fans by being offered three days before Andrew Davies was sold.
captainchris Posted 26 September, 2008 Share Posted 26 September, 2008 I posted that link on the Svennson thread earlier, and thought what a complete fook up once more. Many suspected he would not be able to play mid week aswell as this weekend, and IMO the Donny game is far more important. For Christ sake we conceded three WITH Svensson in the team in midweek. HE IS NOT FIT ENOUGH OR SAD TO SAY GOOD ENOUGH NOW - WAY OFF THE PACE!
Professor Posted 26 September, 2008 Share Posted 26 September, 2008 Surely he knew that that the league game was the most important? Thats right - the league game is more imporatant and Svensson is not fit enough to play in the important matches. Its better that he contributed to the defence that allowed 3 goals in in the Carling Cup than we lose against Doncaster by putting out a weak defence. Cork and Perry are both better than Svensson, who is now too slow. I hope he can get properly fit, but its not just the knee, he simply is not fast enough to be worth his place in the first choice 11.

HE IS NOT FIT ENOUGH OR SAD TO SAY GOOD ENOUGH NOW - WAY OFF THE PACE! No.he wasn't fit enough midweek, but perhaps saving him for the weekend game may have meant he was nearer match fitness, extra few days rest and all that. And probably the reason we conceeded 3 goals was that he wasn't match fit,so it was a foolish decision to take the chance. Let's face it he is Knackered, full stop. IMO. "Michael Svensson will not play on Saturday because he gave us his all again on Tuesday and now he needs to train in time for next week. Last time he came back in it was too early, so he needs two or three training sessions to be sharp. Michael is a top player so we will give him the time that he needs." Tie that up with the amount of times JP has stated that Killer cannot play 2 games a week and even you should be capable of finding your way home. Torrent Of Abuse Posted 27 September, 2008 Share Posted 27 September, 2008 Surely it's a case of 20:20 hindsight? Mark Hughes rested Micah Richards for the Man City v Brighton cup game and they went out. I can't help feel that if we had rested Svensson but lost in the cup, the same people complaining about him being played would be making very eloquent arguments about how playing him would have brought about a win which would have kick-started our season. I guess these are the complicated choices which a manager has to make - and it's probably why Poortvliet is the real manager and why his critics are all on here spunking up over the wording of every article coming out of the club instead of displaying their football genius as managers themselves. Secret Site Agent Posted 27 September, 2008 Share Posted 27 September, 2008 At least he's not afraid to carry the can Football manger in 'I am to blame shock' He said he shouldn't have played him. You lot say he shouldn't have played him. He said he should have saved him for today You lot say he should have saved him for today I don't get it? Next he'll be saying he's ****ed off were not higher up in the league, but it's early days. We are through the looking glass here people.
Saint_clark Posted 27 September, 2008 Share Posted 27 September, 2008 You could also argue he was going to have to gamble a bit either way. Jan could have waited for the weekend and thrown Killer in only for him to break down after 10 minutes, then where would we be? I guess he saw the cup tie as little more than the equivalent of a reserve fixture to allow Killer to test himself in a match situation. Perhaps he should have subbed him but if Killer doesn't say he's struggling and there are tactical imperatives he's always going to stay on the pitch. Hindsight suggests it wasn't the best thing to happen but some you win.....I just hope we have some of those soon. Meanwhile a little less overexcitement might be handy from us fans I'm sure Rotheram didn't see it as a reserve game, and that is why Killer shouldn't have played. If that was the case then why would Jan be apologising for playing Killer and blaming himself for the recurrence of Killer's problems?
