eurosaint Posted 26 May, 2010 Share Posted 26 May, 2010 I too would suggest a personal letter - my boy's school sent several begging letters to local companies asking for donations for a summer auction and Saints came up trumps - they provided a home shirt and a triangle emblem thing (there is a name for them, but I've forgotten it), both signed by the first team squad. A Pennant ?
Elias Posted 26 May, 2010 Share Posted 26 May, 2010 I was merely echoing the pointlessness and rudeness of his post. I expect you've had as much experience dealing with the families of prisoners as I have? It's not based on rudeness, it's based on fact: The families of the victims of crime are more deserving than the families of prisoners. In many cases the only possible way to help the children of prisoners is to find an alternative family for them as with the parents they have they'd have no chance of becoming productive human beings. Bet your time in Southsea has addled your brain, skate.

Bet your time in Southsea has addled your brain, skate. Haha how funny, I live in Southsea so you called me a skate. That's original (yawn). The sister of the original poster chooses, for her own reasons, to spend some time and effort with children who no doubt are often vulnerable and left in difficult circumstances due to the actions of their parents. Your original post was rude IMO. Nowhere have I said that families of criminals are more deserving than families of victims. There are thousands of different charities out there, maybe you should rank all of them in 'deserving' priority so that the rest of us can divide our funding and efforts accordingly. Edited 26 May, 2010 by anothersaintinsouthsea Was probably a little over the top. Don't take kindly to being called a skate.
Saintandy666 Posted 26 May, 2010 Share Posted 26 May, 2010 I think some people are being very unfair on this charity. I can imagine it would be pretty hard on the child of a man or woman who has murdered someone or another crime and so has been put away. It's not like they are going to fully understand how to feel and how to act. They would need support. Just because, the father or mother is guilty, doesn't mean the rest of the family is. miserableoldgit Posted 26 May, 2010 Share Posted 26 May, 2010 OP did suggest the shirts might be for auction, hopefully to then fund some of the above...? My point being simply that there doesn't appear to be enough information here to pass sensible judgement on how worthwhile or not the charity is. Never stopped anyone on this forum before! martel Posted 26 May, 2010 Share Posted 26 May, 2010 Charities in aid of criminals, is that for real. Saints ain't the disgraceful ones here Not the criminals, but their kids who are completely innocent; if it helps I got a fully signed saints shirt for a friends 40th birthday, I just walked up to reception and asked to speak with who ever could help me out; I have to admit it was a while ago, but it was St mary's; the guy I spoke to said it would take about a week, sure enough a week later it was all done, so all I can suggest is give it a go, I am sure they will help you out when you explain face to face, which is always better than a poxy e-mail anyway. Nessy7 Posted 26 May, 2010 Share Posted 26 May, 2010 How ignorant can some people be on here? As a few have pointed out, it is the CHILDREN and not the offenders. Put yourself in that position and then read back what you have written and see if you still agree with yourself. And well done the people who have corrected those people too

Put yourself in that position and then read back what you have written and see if you still agree with yourself. And well done the people who have corrected those people too I don't think it is an indication of ignorance that some people have issues with this topic, more an issue with personal preference. I don't think that anyone who appears opposed to this charity is necessarily against it. They are merely prioritising their own choices as if they were the ones asked to donate. Most of us have funds limited much more than those of SFC, so we look at the question from our own perspectives from our own limited resources. We tend to think along the lines of....Hmmm, I have just one shirt to give away. Should I give it to cancer kid, or son of mugger kid. Most likely, none of us have the resources that SFC does, and we don't even KNOW the resources of SFC regarding charitable contributions. This is why we prioritise from our own perspectives. bender Posted 26 May, 2010 Share Posted 26 May, 2010 My sister does quite a lot of work for a local charity that helps the families of people who are doing time. Not the most popular of causes I know but that is beside the point. As you can well imagine a lot of the children who have fathers inside are well into football,so my sister contacted both Saints and Portsmouth to see if there was anything they could donate either to auction or even some small tokens as gifts for these kids. In the post today came a Pompey away shirt signed by all of the cup final squad as of yet not even a reply from the Saints. I said to her that maybe her letter got lost in the post ,but she did it all by e mail and she has sent several to Saints but this was the first time she tried Portsmouth. Any one know who would be in charge of this sort of thing at SMS This charity is obviously close to Pompeys heart as they are all criminals themselves. Oh and you'll probably get a bill for that shirt soon.

NickG Posted 26 May, 2010 Share Posted 26 May, 2010 what a miserable b**t**d! The families of these people have not committed any crimes and are left in the lurch through no fault of their own. Yes, there will always be a more deserving charity no doubt, but that's no reason to denigrate their suffering. you appear to be agreeing with him

Now I know it's not the childrens fault what their parent do but I know where my money would go. Btw for anyone to slag off the club for not donating, there has been no link to say SFC have not donated or have said they will not donate. Saint-Fred Posted 26 May, 2010 Share Posted 26 May, 2010 I think the original poster would have got a more sympathetic approach if they didn't use it as an excuse to "bash" Saints. The vogue seems to be to have a pop for anything and I question whether the poster is actual a Saints fan or someone looking for an excuse to have a moan? So what they didn't answer I bet they get hundreds of requests like this everyday..Some they support some they don't... Bet if you e-mailed every league club you wouldn't get half respond and then only a few would actually give anything. That's the point it's optional! Rather than moan about what you didn't get count yourself lucky to get a shirt at all.

sad saints fan Posted 26 May, 2010 Author Share Posted 26 May, 2010 (edited) I think an update is called for here..Since i posted this yesterday my sister has had a reply from the club apologise for length of time it has taken to reply. They have offered a stadium tour for free. So I am no longer disappointed with Saints they just made a mistake which can happen to anybody. Saint fred I did not intend to use this as an attempt to bash saints,it just that ifelt genuine disappointment at the time. Many of the replies on here were quite helpful in there advice. I do not "bash"saints. I suppose I should change thread title to"No longer disappointed with saints" if I knew how. They took a few days to respond about a request for something free, and then responded with a kind gift? Yet according to you they made a mistake. You are an idiot. And a thread title change of "no longer disappointed with saints" shows you up again for being a fool. The club owe nothing at all, they have no obligation to fulfill any request for help from any charity, no matter how lazy and impersonal this one clearly was in its approach. Despite the negative comments on this thread about the actual charity, I'm glad it has benefitted from the club. But you seem to have taken it an an expectation, rather than a gift. Shame on you.
