Not as easy as you might think. I've been wracking my brains and am still short of quite a few..

Forwards:

J Jordan, Paterson

Midfield:

Mcann, Quashie, McCalliog

Defence:

err... Telfer

Keeper:

Martin

Perhaps somebody else might fill in the blanks for me.

No, it wasn't as easy as I thought it was going to be though being able from memory to go back 40+ years helped ! The team I came up with was :

Martin ( though could have had Campbell Forsyth or Dave McClaren, an easy position to fill)

Telfer Steele Gabriel Burns ( Francis)

Fisher McCalliog O'Brien( Gerry) Quashie

Speedie Jordan

Couldn't actually remember if Ted MacDougall was Scottish or not, as he is I'd have him in way ahead of Speedie who was poor for us.

Unable to get a reasonable Irish or Welsh team I thought

But maybe a Scandinavian one would be good

Mick Earls was Irish, a defender from the mid 70's but I'm struggling to think of any other Irish/Welsh players who haven't been mentioned. Has Jeff Kenna been mentioned?

I'm thinking a Scandanavian team would be easier so...

Niemi

Ostlund Svennson (M) Lundekvam Jakobsson

Svennson (A) Tessem Nilsson Soltvedt

Ostenstad Ekelund

It was actually harder than I thought, the only other one I came up with was another striker in Stig Johansen.

Ad hoc rule #3.147

No points will be given to answers where explicit use of Wikipedia is evident. ;)

You're just making it up as you go along to make sure you win, no one likes a smart arse ;)

24 hours and still not answered.

Where did Saints do their pre-season training from 67-73? McMenemy changed it after he became Manager.

It was also the home ground for the Southampton A side that played in the Hampshire League in the 60's, 70's and 80's.

Yes. the BTC Ground.

I thought the Saints A reference would have given it away. I saw Channon, Stokes, Holmes, Mills, Williams, Moran and various Wallaces' get their start there.

Danny Wallace made his debut at Old Stretford the week after he had run rings round some squarehead right-back of Pompey R.N. when they announced the team changes at O.T. we all looked at each other and went :smt102.

when the team ran out I said " He's 16 and was only here to carry the kit bag." rather giving away the fact that we were Saints fans in the United Rd paddock. :smt021

The problem was Stoneham Lane was so clear in my mind I couldn't believe it was so long ago !

Anyway I'm claiming that one :D Question soon.....

Well done. I think (looking suspiciously at the post time.)

NEXT!!

In more innocent times, my grandfather would go round the BTC ground in the morning picking mushroooms, and later on I would go round to watch the saints training. Never even asked, just went and watched.

Happy days !!

You can add Lee Powell to that list of little ones.......and how can anyione forget the legend that was Lee Todd, the left back who had the major problem that a forward could chip the ball over his head and **** past him in an instant :)

The trialist was, I believe, the brother of Caroline Wozniacki, the Danish tennis player - can't remember his first name though.

The team of midgets is shaping up nicely, I think a chinese team might take a bit longer !
