Psycrow Posted 26 May, 2010 Posted 26 May, 2010 I'm making a complaint to the consumer watchdog. The title on this thread says boredom relieving... it does not do what it says on the tin
Joensuu Posted 26 May, 2010 Posted 26 May, 2010 Correct, stood right behind the goal in utter disbelief he did that especially in the last minute of the game? Chris woods career ended by a shoulder injury? Leg wasn't it?
Charlie Wayman Posted 26 May, 2010 Posted 26 May, 2010 Who did Charlie Wayman play for before he became a Saint?
Pilchards Posted 26 May, 2010 Posted 26 May, 2010 Which ex Saints player was involved in JVC? Tough one me thinks!!
Lets B Avenue Posted 26 May, 2010 Posted 26 May, 2010 Where did Saints do their pre-season training from 67-73? McMenemy changed it after he became Manager. I posed this question after getting the "Matt Oakley* one right. (See post 138) Still to be answered.
Joensuu Posted 26 May, 2010 Posted 26 May, 2010 Who did Charlie Wayman play for before he became a Saint? One of the NE teams, Middlesbro or Newcastle I think
Appy Posted 26 May, 2010 Posted 26 May, 2010 Which Arsenal player did Prutton chop down before his infamous clash with Alan Wiley?
Lets B Avenue Posted 26 May, 2010 Posted 26 May, 2010 Order! Order! Stop going out of turn, Mr Appy. was it Van Persie?
Appy Posted 26 May, 2010 Posted 26 May, 2010 (edited) Robert Pires? I hope it was anyway. Correct and Apologies i just had a question pop into my head and couldn't resist. Edited 26 May, 2010 by Appy
Joensuu Posted 26 May, 2010 Posted 26 May, 2010 Much as I'd like to know where we preseasoned in the sixties, or what Pilchards means by JVC (as in the ex Arsenal sponsor?), I'm stumped. I know I'm out of turn, but seen as nothing has happened in 40 mins, can I ask the following question(s)? Charlie Wayman holds the record for most goals per appearance for Saints with 77 goals in 107 games (a ratio of a goal every 0.72 games (all comps)). Out of the players who scored more than thirty goals for Southampton, who: a) has the lowest goals per game ratio? b) has the highest goals per game ratio in the last 40 years? (Both only including players who scored more than 30 goals for Saints... so not Claus or Benali... )

norwaysaint Posted 26 May, 2010 Posted 26 May, 2010 Best= Lambert followed by Kevin Keegan Worst= Glenn ****erill
Joensuu Posted 26 May, 2010 Posted 26 May, 2010 (edited) Highest: Rickie Lambert Lowest: Matt Oakley Lambert is correct at 0.62 goals per game (36 in 58 ). He is currently 6th in the all time goals per game (for Southampton players with more than 30 goals), behind: Wayman (1947-50) with 77 in 107 (0.72) Haines (1928-32) with 47 in 71 (0.66) Drake (1931-34) with 48 in 74 (0.65) O'Brien (1959-66) with 180 in 281 (0.64) Milward (1899-1901) with 40 in 63 (0.63) Oakley is a good call. His 20 goals in 310 games give an ratio of 0.06 goals per game. He hasn't scored 30 goals so I dismissed him from the calculations... ... but I'll let you have it, as Oakley does have much worse stats than the answer I was looking for, John Sydenham, whose 40 goals from 402 games gives him a ratio of 0.099 goals per game. Edited 26 May, 2010 by Joensuu 8 ) causes a smilie...
Joensuu Posted 26 May, 2010 Posted 26 May, 2010 (edited) Best= Lambert followed by Kevin Keegan Worst= Glenn ****erill Close. Glenn's 39 in 358 (0.108 ) came second to Sydenham's record (see above) Keegan's 0.525 (42 in 80 games) comes third in the last 40 years. Ron Davies (left in 1973) just pips Keegan with 153 in 281 (or 0.544 goals per game). Keegan ends up with the 15th highest goals to games ratio of all Saints players scoring more than 30 goals. Davies and Sydenham's records in the last 40 years don't put them top of the lists and that's what the question says.
sidthesquid Posted 26 May, 2010 Posted 26 May, 2010 (edited) Name the Southampton players that have been part of the England world cup squad since and including 1966. Pointless i know because everyone will just go straight to google. Good question and without googling, a few come to mind - Terry Paine, (but sadly never Mick Channon or MLT), Peter Shilton, Dave Watson & Wayne Bridge, but I can't think of many more. If I'm right, here's a question. Which goalkeeper, other than Dave Beasant, famous for his cup final performance, played briefly for Saints? Edited 26 May, 2010 by sidthesquid
sandwichsaint Posted 26 May, 2010 Posted 26 May, 2010 What was David Peach's goals per game - must be somewhere around the 30 / 300 mark ??
Judge Posted 26 May, 2010 Posted 26 May, 2010 If I'm right, here's a question. Which goalkeeper, other than Dave Beasant, famous for his cup final performance, played briefly for Saints? Bruce Grobbelaar?

Joensuu Posted 26 May, 2010 Posted 26 May, 2010 Which goalkeeper, other than Dave Beasant, famous for his cup final performance, played briefly for Saints? Kasey Keller?

Sweet! Sorry for the delay in response, had work to do. My question. Which clubs did we 'acquire' the following graduates from out youth system from. 1) Theo Walcott 2) David McGoldrick 3) Dexter Blackstock?
sidthesquid Posted 26 May, 2010 Posted 26 May, 2010 Which goalkeeper, other than Dave Beasant, famous for his cup final performance, played briefly for Saints? Think 1970's. Very famous goalkeeping display, particularly one memorable double save.

SNSUN Posted 26 May, 2010 Posted 26 May, 2010 Whilst I'm happy to be in third place, I'm setting up a dubious quiz panel to do some undercover snooping to find out why the creator of the quiz is currently in first place. :-)
Appy Posted 26 May, 2010 Posted 26 May, 2010 Think 1970's. Very famous goalkeeping display, particularly one memorable double save. Jim Montgormery

First of you two to post the next question continues the official line. Appy Posted 26 May, 2010 Posted 26 May, 2010 Correct! Nice. Which player scored a premier league hat trick against Saints in his first ever start?
Colinjb Posted 26 May, 2010 Author Posted 26 May, 2010 Nice. Which player scored a premier league hat trick against Saints in his first ever start? Ronnie Rosenthal?

Remember the rules, you can only post a question after answering one right.... hence how it's kinda split here due to a question just being spontaneously added.. I think the new ad-hoc rule should be that if you don't post a question within 30 minutes of answering the last one correctly, then the first new question to be asked by anyone is accepted as the new question (due to people going offline for a while). Colin, what do you reckon? Keeps it flowing! (Or has muscleing in on your game docked me points? :-))

The poster of this new question must say that they have invoked this rule and if there is more then one person claiming I get the final say over the 'official line.' - My thread my rules.
Scummer Posted 26 May, 2010 Posted 26 May, 2010 Nice. Which player scored a premier league hat trick against Saints in his first ever start? Henry.

SNSUN Posted 26 May, 2010 Posted 26 May, 2010 Nice. Which player scored a premier league hat trick against Saints in his first ever start?Bergkamp? Or was he a few games into his career with Arsenal by then?
Appy Posted 26 May, 2010 Posted 26 May, 2010 Bergkamp? Or was he a few games into his career with Arsenal by then? A few games. It was in the noughties.
Colinjb Posted 26 May, 2010 Author Posted 26 May, 2010 A few games. It was in the noughties. And in the Premiership!?
Appy Posted 26 May, 2010 Posted 26 May, 2010 And in the Premiership!? Indeed The noughties was 2000-2009. We were relegated in 2005.
Colinjb Posted 26 May, 2010 Author Posted 26 May, 2010 Indeed The noughties was 2000-2009. We were relegated in 2005. A hat-trick on their debut, against us, in the Premiership, in the 2000-2005 time frame. Should know this.....
Scummer Posted 26 May, 2010 Posted 26 May, 2010 Michael Bridges scored one for Leeds against us, but it was his second game and it was 1999.....
