Johnny Bognor Posted 25 May, 2010 Share Posted 25 May, 2010 Wasn't that the job of the Winter Fuel Allowance? By the way Tory fans, I'm struggling to see the point of all this talk of giving 'outstanding' schools academy status? If they're 'outstanding', how can they possibly get better? The whole idea behind the academy schools was that they were there to drag the worst schools out of their special meaures. Regardless, I think we can all see where this is going: Privitisation of the education system through the back door, you can better your last quid that there are multiple multi-national companies who want a slice of the 'education pie'. I think it would be quite funny watching you say to your class: "Today's lesson on WWII is brought to you by The History Channel". Blah, blah, blah, blah "Right kids, get yourself off to the McDonalds canteen, where todays lunch is sponsored by Dairylea"

Jonnyboy Posted 25 May, 2010 Share Posted 25 May, 2010 It can be done. Gordon managed to pump a cool £200,000,000,000 into the banks without raising it. He needed some dosh, so cranked up the printing presses. I guess there was a low yield on the socialist magic money tree. DOesnt most money get borrowed from the world bank? Whatever the **** that is.
Johnny Bognor Posted 25 May, 2010 Share Posted 25 May, 2010 DOesnt most money get borrowed from the world bank? Whatever the **** that is. No most of it is done by issuing Gilts/bonds. They sell you a bond and promise to pay you back with interest. With regards to the £200bn for providing liquidity to the banks, they simply created the money and injected it into the banks (which is akin to printing more bank notes). What has happened to the assets bought with the £200bn created out of thin air. Can they be sold for a (100%) profit later on?

Assets weren't bought with the £200bn, it was just pumped into the economy via the banks. I guess if this stimulates profits at the banks and their customers (assuming they chose to lend it on), then the govt would get some of it via taxation. I guess if any of it was pumped into NR, RBS etc, then this would make these assets more valuable.
dune Posted 26 May, 2010 Share Posted 26 May, 2010 How can you spend money you aren't going to raise? Given that you are a member of the Labour party I would have thought you'd be an expert in this.

Hmmm, with you on the Academies thing. Was discussing it this morning and really can't understand the benefit and had more questions than understanding. But as I was saying; how different is it to the last time this was tried with "Grant Maintained Status"? My old secondary school went grant maintained and we then had an assembly with our headteacher telling us to "get all your friends who don't go to this school to join as we get more money"!!?? $$$ Posted 26 May, 2010 Share Posted 26 May, 2010 Still not able to answer the question, then? It’s actually pretty simple. The NHS along with every other employer would have had to pay increased NI contributions for the staff they employ. As NI won’t be raised, the extra money required to pay the increased NI contributions can be diverted to pay for cancer drugs instead. At least that is the theory... So, in a nutshell, the NHS budget will be increased. It would have had to be increased to pay increased NI contributions. Now it will be increased to pay for new cancer drugs. So they will have to find more money anyway. Have I got that right?

Gingeletiss Posted 26 May, 2010 Share Posted 26 May, 2010 We could when it was introduced. Same as we could could afford wars then! Want to save billions? get out of Afghanistan where we are a decade into an unwinable war at the cost of 100s of UK lives and billions of ££. People like you make me sick. You'll be at the front of the queue complaining about government not protecting the people of this country, when the terrorists trained in the outback of Afghanistan, come here, and start blowing the sh1t out of our population. Do you really think, that you know better than the war cabinet, the government, and the war office, as to what is best regarding Afghanistan. Do you honestly believe, that they are there, because government feels it's a good learning curve. Get real man, they are there because they have to be, and most western nations, agree with that fact.
