djharvey Posted 24 May, 2010 Share Posted 24 May, 2010 Yes, that is exactly what I am saying... why do you think most clubs put season tickets on sale before the end of the season? Because it is the best time to capture people. Of course there is the hardcore which will renew... but for some people SFC is now at the back of their minds again and it will be har to recapture them to get them to commit to a season ticket. Listen, as I keep saying and for some whacky reason, nobody can understand... there is a reason that every single club if possible get their season tickets on sale before the end of the previous season is.................... because it sells the most season tickets by doing it this way! I would think that the primary reason is to get the monies in the bank ASAP! could be wrong but i doubt it.
Gemmel Posted 24 May, 2010 Share Posted 24 May, 2010 Is it now... For the record, I think we will know this afternoon, if not tommorow morning. Best guess - We were looking at a smart card system, want a smart card system, but havent been able to get the deal we want or the right commercials. Left it as long as they can to try and do something this year, but will now shelve it until next year, leaving us with some crappy cardboard cut out and will release new pricing details this week. rocknrollman no2 Posted 24 May, 2010 Share Posted 24 May, 2010 Stu makes a valid point. A lot of my friends get their ST paid by instalments as soon as they are put on sale, thus its all paid up by Christmas.By leaving it so late, they will still be paying it off at an expensive time of year. I also think that Cortese is doing himself no favours by not at least telling us fans when to expect them to go on sale.

There is always going to be season tickets. Even if they went on sale one day before the opening game. If you have already set aside the money what difference does it make if it comes out of your account tomorrow or in July? If anything it benefits you more the later it is, as you are still accruing interest as it is in your account. The financial planning of some people on this forum is shocking! Because I know I will spend it on holiday, not because I want to! I saved it in premium bonds over the course of the last season and then converted it back into cash at the end of the season so it was ready in my bank account to buy the season tix. Now I am soon off on holiday and I just know that once the beer starts to flow it will 'magically' disappear! Didn't the club used to have a savings scheme for STs? I vaguely remember that you could buy stamps every time you went to SMS in denominations of £5, £10, £20. You then put them in your savings book and once full could turn it in for next season tix. A good idea imho. EDIT: actually it probably was the Dell, not SMS. Going back a few years now.

Miffy Posted 25 May, 2010 Share Posted 25 May, 2010 The delay in announcing ST details is surprising and intriguing. Clearly the club would have had a pretty good idea of which division we would be playing in (or could have planned for both possibilities). What is particularly unusual is the lack of a date to announce the prices, unless I have missed it somewhere. I guess there are a number of possibilities: 1) They have forgotten (?), 2) they are disorganised and cannot agree, 3) they are awaiting some big announcement about players (this would only make sense if the ST price is going to be higher because of it), 4) prices are going to be super low (if so why the delay in announcing?), 5) they are still in discussions over where to site away fans, 6) there will be no season tickets next season (unlikely) I'm sure there are other possibilities, but unless it is 1,2 or 3, I cannot understand why the club doesn't at least make a holding statement. I'm not particularly impatient, just a bit surprised. Not planning to spend the money on something else either

Hyde and Seek Posted 25 May, 2010 Share Posted 25 May, 2010 Maybe their accounting year ends on the 8th July (Ist anniversary of the takeover) and so offering season tickets in their 2nd year gives them a tax advantage. That is, their their turnover and profit will be held back in the first year and any tax due would be lessened. Expect ST's to be on sale from 9 July. Money received for season tickets will be accounted for in the accounts to which they relate. The club pays tax on its profits 9 months after the end of its accounting year. So if the club prepares accounts to 30 June 2010, but season tickets for the following year are issued in April 2010, then while the club gets the benefit of our cash early, it does not pay tax on our money until 1 April 2012 on the 2010/11 tickets. So there is no tax penalty to the company if it takes money for the next season early. But its gets our money in their bank account. You could therefore suggest they are doing us all a favour, particularly if they offer us a compertitive package. Best of all if we know in the future that this is going to be the way forward then we can't have too much to complain.

Not planning to spend the money on something else either I am going for the idea the club wants to maximise STs but especially in parts of the ground that are unpopular. So Chapel / Itchen Corner becomes very cheap. Blocks 1-3 become STs + enhanced member scheme only. Enhanced member scheme - you have to buy 10 matches up front (or something similar). Also a Saturday only season ticket. Also a mid week only ST also a pre match day purchase rate and a higher match day purchase rate Introduction of Gold priced matches higher % increases on children ST tickets (if children tickets are too cheap, there is very little "penalty" for not turning up at matches) .. also link back to Saturday tickets. The reason for the delay is to wait until the fixture list is out to allow the above to be implemented ie allowing for a 20? match Saturday only ticket. Or the Bournemouth at SMS Boxing Day (or another Bank Holiday) to be a gold match. I think we are going to see a radical approach to ST and ticket sales. Plus I am expecting a very good player signing. The lack of info / publicity now is to get a real wow factor shortly.

So yes, the hardcore percentage will renew / buy but i bet there will be plenty more who buy regardless of how early they go on sale.
