To be fair, in a year or so they may have a chance in the JPT. Oh hang on, do they allow non-league clubs to compete in that competition?
lenwilkins Posted 28 May, 2010 Share Posted 28 May, 2010 Whilst not directly Saints related, some of you might not be aware that Salisbury are under threat of relegation from the Conference to 2 leagues below where they are currently. Salisbury are, of course, managed by ex Saints Tommy Widderington and Nick Holmes, and Aaron Martin went there on loan this Season.. Salisbury's crime is that they went into administration last season and recieved the mandatory 10 point penalty. Without this penalty, they would have finished 1 place below the Play-Off Places - a remarkable achievement considering they had a ban on signing new players and the smallest budget in the League. They were taken over during the Season and the new Directors reached agreement with all of their creditors to repay their bills. All creditors are happy, as far as i can tell, and scheduled repayments are being maintained. This is different from Pompey, who are walking away from 80% of their non football debts! However, the League - in their infinite stupidity - have declared that "rules being rules" the Club has not cleared all debts and therefore must be severely punished - hence their double relegation. The Club are appealing against this decision. There is an online Facebook petition http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=128570467155691 which aims to get 5,000 supporters by Saturday - they currently stand at 3,000. So if you'd like to support this campaign to save a local club from rank Conference stupidity, please support this petition.
Cestrian Saint Posted 31 May, 2010 Share Posted 31 May, 2010 Chester City started life on -25pts in the Conference. Half way through the season they folded. The club has been resurrected by the fans and whilst they were never going to start life in the Conf north, they were hopeful of a new beginning a couple of leagues below that. Sadly they've been put in the North-West counties league, 5 levels below where they were. It's going to be a long and difficult journey for them to get back to where they were, but at least there's no money grabbing ******s running the club and the it's nice to see people who genuinely care about their team in control. OldNick Posted 31 May, 2010 Share Posted 31 May, 2010 I have been told that one of the comittee has tie ups with the club who were due to go down.By voting for this that club would stay up.Not sure how true it is but is a rumour I have been told
Kingsland Nick Posted 3 June, 2010 Share Posted 3 June, 2010 However, the League - in their infinite stupidity - have declared that "rules being rules" the Club has not cleared all debts and therefore must be severely punished - hence their double relegation. Perhaps Salisbury should have cleared their debts by the deadline of 8 May. It seems that the CVA may be agreed on 12 June, but that would be 5 weeks after the deadline. The 10 ponts penalty was not a real punishment, as Salisbury would not have come close to making the play-offs. The ban on signing new players came too late. If they hadn't spent beyond their means they would not have gone into adminsitration.
The Saturday Boy Posted 10 June, 2010 Share Posted 10 June, 2010 The appeal against the demotion was heard at Wembley yesterday and a decision on the appeal should be known at some point this afternoon/evening.

SuperMikey Posted 10 June, 2010 Share Posted 10 June, 2010 Shame that, as it seems that they'd done everything right on appeal but at least one league body are taking mis-management seriously! Down to the Ryman they go...
Kingsland Nick Posted 10 June, 2010 Share Posted 10 June, 2010 Shame that, as it seems that they'd done everything right on appeal They had no chance of winning the appeal, unless they could find a time traveller to pay off their creditors by the deadline. It is possible that they only appealed in order to inconvenience the Conference and Forest Green.
