doubleonothing Posted 19 May, 2010 Posted 19 May, 2010 Yup it's back. But this time it's been "reinvented" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVM4aKPN7a8 I'm not sure. Still reckon you can't beat the 96 original. Must dig out the CD of it! (Russel Brand ruins this new one for me) Any thoughts?
hypochondriac Posted 19 May, 2010 Posted 19 May, 2010 Awful. I am actually annoyed this has been released.
hypochondriac Posted 19 May, 2010 Posted 19 May, 2010 It's like a playgroup version of the original. Abysmal.
hypochondriac Posted 19 May, 2010 Posted 19 May, 2010 FFS Robbie fecking Williams and that c*nt Russel Brand and slowing down parts of the song. And what the hell with the classical singer at the beginning. And the "football" bit? Jesus I'm going to search out my copy of the original.
Saint_clark Posted 19 May, 2010 Posted 19 May, 2010 Could have thought up some new lyrics. Alright though. Just got to the Motson commentary bit, changed my mind. It's terrible.

Not sure how any football fan could label it alright in comparison to the original which IMO is the best football song ever created. It's an abomination.
doubleonothing Posted 19 May, 2010 Author Posted 19 May, 2010 This one every time!!!! Found the CD, put it on and loved it. New one is not a shade on it!
Thedelldays Posted 19 May, 2010 Posted 19 May, 2010 the original is by far the best....Euro 96 was superb
hypochondriac Posted 19 May, 2010 Posted 19 May, 2010 98 version is not bad either (because it's pretty much the same.)
StuRomseySaint Posted 19 May, 2010 Posted 19 May, 2010 I am more annoyed at Leeds United releasing a single, and even more that it's in the top 10.
Pancake Posted 19 May, 2010 Posted 19 May, 2010 Not sure how any football fan could label it alright in comparison to the original which IMO is the best football song ever created. It's an abomination. Because it's his opinion Hypo FFS. Who the **** are you to ****ing tell him what he thinks or insinuate he isnt a football fan because he dares to suggest a pop song that was only mediocre to begin with is "alright" when it been updated 14 years later. FWIW its OK, not a patch on the original, but even that isn't really a great a song as everyone makes out.
Marsdinho Posted 19 May, 2010 Posted 19 May, 2010 You lot have forgotten about World In Motion....best football song ever....FACT
SuperMikey Posted 19 May, 2010 Posted 19 May, 2010 Haha, the new version is f*cking awful. And yes, World In Motion is the best football song ever, hands down. John Barnes should've taken up rapping instead of management...
Scudamore Posted 19 May, 2010 Posted 19 May, 2010 You lot have forgotten about World In Motion....best football song ever....FACT Exactly what i was going to say. You've got to hold and give But do it at the right time You can be slow or fast But you must get to the line They'll always hit you and hurt you Defend and attack Theres only one way to beat them Get round the back Catch me if you can Cos' I'm the England man And what you're looking at Is the master plan
anothersaintinsouthsea Posted 19 May, 2010 Posted 19 May, 2010 we aint no hooligans, this aint a football song, three lions on my chest, you know we can't go wrong
DS Posted 19 May, 2010 Posted 19 May, 2010 There is absolutely no need for a re-make of this song. Unfortunately this fact will not prevent loads of numpties buying it and making some rich suits at a record label somewhere even richer.
Smirking_Saint Posted 19 May, 2010 Posted 19 May, 2010 The first one was amazing, this is just an inadequate cover IMO. Heard the original the other night in a bar in Birmingham, got me in the mood for World Cup, along with the new Carlesburg ad.
Ponty Posted 19 May, 2010 Posted 19 May, 2010 It's probably not a lot worse than the original and anyone who gets their arse in a cramp over it needs psychotherapy. All football songs sound trite, especially that bloody New Order sh*t.
so22saint Posted 19 May, 2010 Posted 19 May, 2010 Keith Allan is your man for football songs - World in Motion and the post modern genius of Vindaloo. Euro 96 3 Lions is probably number 1 in that top 3 - I was living in Paris at the time and convinced we would win. Watching England in an ex-pat bar in a big foreign City is amazing.
Colinjb Posted 19 May, 2010 Posted 19 May, 2010 It's not as dreadful as I thought it would be, but it is as completely pointless and unrequired as any cover version could wish to be.
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 19 May, 2010 Posted 19 May, 2010 You can't beat New Order or Three Lions 96. FACT!
Saint_clark Posted 19 May, 2010 Posted 19 May, 2010 World at your feet wasn't as bad as people made out.

Arizona Posted 19 May, 2010 Posted 19 May, 2010 96 and 98 were good, mainly because they were in essence the same. I never really warmed to World in Motion TBH. If I had to pick a second favourite, I'd say Fat Les and Vindaloo. Sh*t but kinda catchy.

Think he is headed for a meltdown, he was so moderate, understanding and unassuming before his public dressing down.

dorsetdave Posted 20 May, 2010 Posted 20 May, 2010 At least this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqG6lY9XGb8 is something new, and its by Rik Mayall
doughnutman Posted 20 May, 2010 Posted 20 May, 2010 The opera singing at the beginning is carp and pointless IMO. The slowing down of the song before it goes into the chours has grown on me but dont think I will buy it as the original was much better.
Barry the Badger Posted 20 May, 2010 Posted 20 May, 2010 Rather than make it more twee they should've rocked it up.
Saint_clark Posted 20 May, 2010 Posted 20 May, 2010 At least this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqG6lY9XGb8 is something new, and its by Rik Mayall I like the brunette at the end, that's about it.
