Red Alert Posted 9 June, 2010 Posted 9 June, 2010 Surman signing along with the new shirt? That would do me for good news in one day.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 9 June, 2010 Posted 9 June, 2010 95% certain Not mistrusting you but I wonder if Weston Saint can confirm this?
John B Posted 9 June, 2010 Posted 9 June, 2010 95% certain Was does 95% certain mean You are either certain or not
saint77 Posted 9 June, 2010 Posted 9 June, 2010 Was does 95% certain mean You are either certain or not things can go wrong
trousers Posted 9 June, 2010 Posted 9 June, 2010 things can go wrong Wouldn't that make 50/50 a fairer assessment of the likelihood? Sorry, bored to tears here....
Weston Saint Posted 9 June, 2010 Posted 9 June, 2010 I have not been in touch with Steve, his dad, for a few weeks now. Last he told me was he doubted Drew would be at Wolves next season but did not expect any movement until after the world cup. I could not put that up until Wolves had formerly said he could leave. I have no reason to believe he is about to sign. I am not going to ask as if he was in talks that would be confidential and I would not put a friendship under pressure by asking. I will wait and see what happens like all the rest. Speculation and rumour are usually wrong.
trousers Posted 9 June, 2010 Posted 9 June, 2010 Speculation and rumour are usually wrong. Indeed. Hence I hereby speculate that Surman won't be re-joining us.....
trousers Posted 9 June, 2010 Posted 9 June, 2010 Keep up the speculation that he's not coming folks....
saint_bert Posted 9 June, 2010 Posted 9 June, 2010 If and I suspect its a big if, we do bring Drew back, then that sends out a huge message of intent. For a L1 team to spend good money (500k plus?) on a premier league player is almost unheard of. Would love it to be true.

StuRomseySaint Posted 9 June, 2010 Posted 9 June, 2010 (edited) The Football League ruling about the number of 'home grown' players. Do they mean English players or do they mean Academy players? If it is Academy players then I can see Surman being a top target this summer. Edited 9 June, 2010 by StuRomseySaint

saint_bert Posted 9 June, 2010 Posted 9 June, 2010 I think we sent out plenty of messages of intent last season. Of fo sho. But signing a PL player would be the biggest so fair imo

If not - no problem, wasn't expecting it anyway.

Andy_Porter Posted 9 June, 2010 Posted 9 June, 2010 Lallana, Hammond, Schneiderlin, Surman and Puncheon together in midfield would have everything. Lambert would score a hatfull.
Weston Saint Posted 9 June, 2010 Posted 9 June, 2010 don't mean to be personal but thought it was you saying the opposite - that they wanted him to stay? No!
dune Posted 9 June, 2010 Posted 9 June, 2010 If Surman resigned would he count as a homegrown player and thus comply with the new rules?
Chin Strain Posted 9 June, 2010 Posted 9 June, 2010 If Surman resigned would he count as a homegrown player and thus comply with the new rules? Isn't the home grown thing relating to being registered to an English club for 3 years prior to the age of 21, rather than the specific club they're playing for? I suspect foreign players who cam over at a young age may also qualify.
Matthew Le God Posted 9 June, 2010 Posted 9 June, 2010 If Surman resigned would he count as a homegrown player and thus comply with the new rules? When it says homegrown it means registered as a player for 3 seasons at any club in the country under the age of 21. It doesn't mean they have to be English, nor does it mean they have to have been at your club before 21 for three years. The only players that don't count as homegrown in the current Saints squad are... Jose Fonte Radhi Jaidi Morgan Schneiderlin (although he will become homegrown this season as it is his 3rd season and he is under 21 years old) Therefore Saints comply with the rules extremely easily. As will basically every club unless they have more than 15 players that weren't at English club for 3 years between 16 and 21. I very much doubt this rule will effect anyone in the Football League.

Matthew Le God Posted 9 June, 2010 Posted 9 June, 2010 Is it? OK, i thought it meant being at Saints for 3 years. It is quite clearly explained in the statement on the Football League website and the BBC website. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/8729294.stm http://www.football-league.co.uk/latestnews/20100608/football-league-agm-report_2245681_2066602
toofarnorth Posted 21 June, 2010 Posted 21 June, 2010 wish him luck - not worth that to us. Wolves have done well to recoup their outlay. Would have taken him back for 750K.
Scudamore Posted 21 June, 2010 Posted 21 June, 2010 Gone to Sheffield United for £1.2m Care to share a link? I can't find anything other than speculation on this story...
Whitey Grandad Posted 21 June, 2010 Posted 21 June, 2010 i'm certain i saw it in the daily mail today! Yes, bottom right of page 71. '... while Andrew Surman is due to join Sheffield United for £1.2m.'
Pwoite Posted 21 June, 2010 Posted 21 June, 2010 Was there any sell on deal? Can't say I saw much future for him at SMS. Couldn't see him getting a start ahead of P-H-S-L in midfield, and would he have wanted to keep a bench warm?
s0108787 Posted 21 June, 2010 Posted 21 June, 2010 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1288290/Wolverhampton-Wanderers-sign-3m-Stephen-Hunt-Hull-chase-Mana-Dembele.html bottom of this article Has to be said the Daily Mail have linked him with just about every club under the sun - including us!

Bloody hell, this new forum has taken my post quota down to '1', so think I need to double it. Great moustache on the banner, though. Reckon all the team should have them for the squad photo...... Would **** off NC!!
SaintNeil90 Posted 21 June, 2010 Posted 21 June, 2010 Connections at Bramall Lane. Was due to join either Forest or Norwich on loan, but Wolves would prefer to sell him, hence going to Sheffield United instead. When asked about Saints said he didn't want to drop down to league one.
Badger Posted 22 June, 2010 Posted 22 June, 2010 Gone to Norwich. True. http://www.canaries.co.uk/page/Home/ Good move for him,and good luck to him.
fish fingers Posted 22 June, 2010 Posted 22 June, 2010 Gone to Sheffield United for £1.2m Good info, feel free to share more of your wisdom.
Marino Posted 22 June, 2010 Posted 22 June, 2010 Damn, was quietly hoping he would rejoin us and add a bit of class to the midfield. Hate to see him in those god awful colours of Norwich.
NickG Posted 22 June, 2010 Posted 22 June, 2010 Hope he does really well - guess with quality we already have in Lallana, Schneiderln and Puncheon we were never going to be offering big fee and chasing him.
channonball Posted 22 June, 2010 Posted 22 June, 2010 It's interesting Mick MacCarthy has been pretty busy while at the world cup commentating....
RonManager Posted 22 June, 2010 Posted 22 June, 2010 It's interesting Mick MacCarthy has been pretty busy while at the world cup commentating.... Doesn't take much effort to leave a post-it note with a list of names stuck to the Chairman's forehead. 'ere y'are our kid - sort that lot f'rus. I'm off t' world Cup. bye.'
View From The Top Posted 22 June, 2010 Author Posted 22 June, 2010 It's interesting Mick MacCarthy has been pretty busy while at the world cup commentating.... The buy/sell list was done weeks ago. A certain ex-England srtiker, currently at the biggest club in England, has been at the Wolves base twice. Once for a look around and once for talks. My contact at Wolves was far too exicted when they phoned to tell me that they'd just bumped into him.
SNSUN Posted 22 June, 2010 Posted 22 June, 2010 Gone to Norwich. Shame, but with the addition of Dickson I'm not sure he'd have got a game. Glad he's gone to Norwich, he'll be worshipped up there, my missus will be chuffed.

daren1977 Posted 22 June, 2010 Posted 22 June, 2010 As the link suggests - Andrew Surman has signed for Norwich
