Wade Garrett Posted 16 May, 2010 Share Posted 16 May, 2010 I reckon this sort of thing, and bribing of World Cup refs has been going on for years, and Blatter knows it. It would explain why we have been on the receiving end of some awful decisions over the years, because we play fair. Not like those dirty foreigners. If that's what the World Cup is about we're better off out of it.

Clifford Nelson Posted 16 May, 2010 Share Posted 16 May, 2010 Tabloids are hardly newspapers in the true sense. They prey on prejudice and report celebrity and gossip. That's why I can't understand why they are exempt VAT. When it comes to Triesman they seem to have reported an actual piece of news. That is what they should be doing. The person who should carry all the responsibility is Triesman, and his supporters, not the papers. Only in war is it acceptable for papers to be censured, and self censorship should be limited. The risk for us possibly landing the World Cup can't be a good enough reason to withhold the truth.

anothersaintinsouthsea Posted 16 May, 2010 Share Posted 16 May, 2010 You can bet that a Russian newspaper wouldn't have reported one of their officials if the tables were turned. RonManager Posted 16 May, 2010 Share Posted 16 May, 2010 So, are you advocating err.... no transparency? Or, as is better known, lies and cover ups? This is why I don't quite understand the fawning, pitiful reaction this morning by the FA, the grovelling apologies to the totally corrupt Blatter and his cronies followed by the immediate resignation of Triesmann, all in fear of the bid being rejected. Pathetic. What if his accusations are spot on?

I'd rather Triesman had stayed, and had the argument in the open with the bent Spanish, Russian associations and FIFA. So what if it costs us the World Cup - we shouldn't be trying to win a bent contest by appeasement.

Weston Saint Posted 16 May, 2010 Share Posted 16 May, 2010 First you have to ask what Lord Triesman is doing talking to this young lady about such matters rather than alert FIFA. I suspect he has no evidence and it was just an opinion to impress her. What was she doing taking a tape recorder to such meeting? What was her motive? Who put her up to this? That said, Lord Triesman has been very indiscreet and should no longer serve as Chairman of FA let alone the bidding committee from which he has resigned. He is now soiled goods. Unless he steps down or is pushed from football administration at the FA we will not gain the support we need to hold the 2018 World Cup. It is easy to blame the media but it is Lord Triesman who needs to take 100% of the blame

Its a classic set-up and sting operation, and I would be pretty sure the lady in question was motivated purely by cold hard cash.
