ericofarabia Posted 15 May, 2010 Posted 15 May, 2010 Along the lines of the best wishes to Chris Perry for his time spent at SMS, I'd like to say a huge thanks to Papa and Antonnio for the entertainment they have given us this season. Although not always an automatic shoe in for a starting place, the impact both of them have made as Super Subs winning points and a trip to Wembley has been huge. It has been great to see wide players with pace, skill and aggression to go past defenders and even get crosses in sometimes and of course they have contributed to some great goals and assists as well as playing with a smile on their faces. Once again thanks guys, and who knows maybe we haven't sen the last of them yet.
St Landrew Posted 15 May, 2010 Posted 15 May, 2010 Come back guys!! Yep. Another season or two please.
CWD Posted 15 May, 2010 Posted 15 May, 2010 I'm fairly confident that Antonio will stay, but AP doesn't seem to rate Papa all that highly so I don't expect him to stick around. Its a shame because I absolutely love the man!
SFKA South Woodford Posted 15 May, 2010 Posted 15 May, 2010 I hope we see them both again in Saints shirts next season, especially Papa, he has come on and changed several games since he's been here and had an almost immediate effect against Southend last weekend, you could really see the difference he made to our play. Add to that, that he is also quite the character, he's welcome to stay in my opinion.
corsacar saint Posted 15 May, 2010 Posted 15 May, 2010 I hope we can get both back on permanent contracts.
benjii Posted 15 May, 2010 Posted 15 May, 2010 I hope we see them both again in Saints shirts next season, especially Papa, he has come on and changed several games since he's been here and had an almost immediate effect against Southend last weekend, you could really see the difference he made to our play. Add to that, that he is also quite the character, he's welcome to stay in my opinion. Exactly - no idea why Pardew didn't seem to rate him more. Maybe Papa has made it clear he doesn't want to stay?
St Landrew Posted 15 May, 2010 Posted 15 May, 2010 Exactly - no idea why Pardew didn't seem to rate him more. Maybe Papa has made it clear he doesn't want to stay? I would suggest we give the club and player a chance to have their summer breaks and see if Papa heads back in this direction in the close season.
benjii Posted 15 May, 2010 Posted 15 May, 2010 I would suggest we give the club and player a chance to have their summer breaks and see if Papa heads back in this direction in the close season. I agree. Just postulating.
Golden Balls Posted 15 May, 2010 Posted 15 May, 2010 I think I'd rather have Antonio. I think we need better than Papa to get to where we want to be. That said, he always popped up with goals!!
SuperMikey Posted 15 May, 2010 Posted 15 May, 2010 I hope we sign both of them, they really add some pace and flair to the team and both are real characters! Antonio obviously has some real potential which i'm sure AP can coax out of him, and Waigo is the perfect super sub (he just needs to work on not being offside so much). I wouldn't say it's worth paying over the odds for either of them either, there are obviously better options out there but Antonio and Waigo have got a real affinity with the fans now I think and i'm sure both would love to stay here.
Joesaint Posted 15 May, 2010 Posted 15 May, 2010 I think Papa had a great impact on our season and without him we would never have won the JPT. Papa for me just got better and better (due to AP understanding of him, not a striker but winger) Papa please please come back!
farawaysaint Posted 15 May, 2010 Posted 15 May, 2010 Papa has a poacher's eye which could be useful Also he was so unpredictable he was my favourite player
Bailey Posted 15 May, 2010 Posted 15 May, 2010 I'd like to see Antonio back, but he's not irreplaceable. Whilst he's come on leaps and bounds this season, I'm sure there is a decent alternative out there, and no doubt Pards is scouting for a suitable replacement. As for Papa, well he certainly has the ability to change games coming from the bench. However, on the whole, he's been too inconsistent and again, I'm sure there is a better option out there. All makes for an interesting summer, that's for sure!
St Landrew Posted 15 May, 2010 Posted 15 May, 2010 I agree. Just postulating. Oh OK. Here's a snippet from last season, where AP mentions Papa in his post game interview. Versus Norwich in the JPT - 3 mins in: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/8410648.stm
IamLeGod Posted 15 May, 2010 Posted 15 May, 2010 They've defo done a good job for the club whilst here. Shame to see them go, but it is the nature of the game/business. All the best for the future lads
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 15 May, 2010 Posted 15 May, 2010 I would happily see both of them back here next season but if we don't I'm confident that they'll be replaced by players equally as good, if not better.
Andy Durman Posted 15 May, 2010 Posted 15 May, 2010 I think Papa had a great impact on our season and without him we would never have won the JPT. Papa for me just got better and better (due to AP understanding of him, not a striker but winger) Papa please please come back! How much money did the goals Papa scored earn the club? JPT against Norwich etc.
VectisSaint Posted 15 May, 2010 Posted 15 May, 2010 How much money did the goals Papa scored earn the club? JPT against Norwich etc. Maybe his goals cost us a play-off place Hence he has been sent packing in disgrace for undermining our promotion push.
Gordon Mockles Posted 15 May, 2010 Posted 15 May, 2010 Along the lines of the best wishes to Chris Perry for his time spent at SMS, I'd like to say a huge thanks to Papa and Antonnio for the entertainment they have given us this season. Once again thanks guys, and who knows maybe we haven't sen the last of them yet. I hope Papa & Antonio come back. Both have had a huge influence & have changed & won us many a game. Special mention to Perry who was awesome on many occassions over the past seasons, mainly before Pardew arrived, when he played more. He's been a valuable player & still cut it at a ripe football age. I wish him well.
buctootim Posted 15 May, 2010 Posted 15 May, 2010 I would happily see both of them back here next season but if we don't I'm confident that they'll be replaced by players equally as good' date=' if not better.[/quote'] Goes for me too. I thought they made contributions, but it should be possible to bring in someone as consistently good as RL, KD or Harding, not just occasionally good as a sub.
farawaysaint Posted 15 May, 2010 Posted 15 May, 2010 Papa said in an interviews that he thinks he can play at a higher level so I doubt we'll see him again.
Thedelldays Posted 15 May, 2010 Posted 15 May, 2010 Papa said in an interviews that he thinks he can play at a higher level so I doubt we'll see him again. well, he is a tad deluded then
david in sweden Posted 15 May, 2010 Posted 15 May, 2010 Along the lines of the best wishes to Chris Perry for his time spent at SMS, I'd like to say a huge thanks to Papa and Antonnio for the entertainment they have given us this season. Once again thanks guys, and who knows maybe we haven't sen the last of them yet. Exactly " returning to their clubs " is part of the deal..whether or not we go back and ask for more is another question. Antonio maybe ...(tough for Papa Waigo-with the language an' all) but it was fun while it lasted.
SNSUN Posted 15 May, 2010 Posted 15 May, 2010 Must sign them again, especially Antonio - any clubs interested in him after his (pretty good) season can naff off. Waigo was entertainment - but I don't doubt there are other players out there that could do a job as well as him.
Clifford Nelson Posted 15 May, 2010 Posted 15 May, 2010 I bet it will be a very long time until we find another bit player who will score 12 goals in only 11 starts for the club, quite apart from the numbers of assists he's contributed. We have an option to buy him, but I can't see him back here, which is sad. Those who have said that he was "inconsistent" or thought that we'll easily find replacement for him ought to take a close look at his contribution.
Saint_clark Posted 15 May, 2010 Posted 15 May, 2010 there is better out there, i am sure Of course there is. But you couldn't get them for under £500k each.
beatlesaint Posted 15 May, 2010 Posted 15 May, 2010 I bet it will be a very long time until we find another bit player who will score 12 goals in only 11 starts for the club, quite apart from the numbers of assists he's contributed. SFC Forever Posted 15 May, 2010 Posted 15 May, 2010 I agree. Just postulating. Safer than some 'atings I can think of.
saintstr1 Posted 15 May, 2010 Posted 15 May, 2010 Sign them both Alan please , lot more to come from both of them, Class Acts in this league.
Arizona Posted 15 May, 2010 Posted 15 May, 2010 Hope we can get Antonio back, think he has real tallent. Don't think we need Waigo as well though, they are too similar and we already have Puncheon on the right too. A left footed Antonio would be brilliant if we could get one.
austsaint Posted 15 May, 2010 Posted 15 May, 2010 I will be scratching my head in disbelief if Papa isn't offered a return to Saints. A very gifted player and at times very exciting to watch. I'm sure there will be negotiations with Reading for Antonio. Like many on here, I wish Chris Perry well in the future - a model pro over many seasons.
musesaint Posted 16 May, 2010 Posted 16 May, 2010 Papa said in an interviews that he thinks he can play at a higher level so I doubt we'll see him again. Yes With us 2011/12 Championship 2012/13 Premiership :-)
Thedelldays Posted 16 May, 2010 Posted 16 May, 2010 Of course there is. But you couldn't get them for under £500k each. well..you probably could to be fair
Singeon Sears Posted 16 May, 2010 Posted 16 May, 2010 Hope both come back if possible. Papa added moments of quality that the league one standard couldn't cope with.
Andy_Porter Posted 16 May, 2010 Posted 16 May, 2010 Of course there is. But you couldn't get them for under £500k each. Wasn't Puncheon signed for less than 500k? He's a cut above Antonio and Waigo.
Give it to Ron Posted 16 May, 2010 Posted 16 May, 2010 Papa said in an interviews that he thinks he can play at a higher level so I doubt we'll see him again. I think that is right as well - Papa will be looking to play at a higher level again, he is a bit of a free spirit so who knows where he will end up. Antonio will not be here either next season as I think Reading will price us out of the running for him. Why spend money on him when there will be other players free or loans as he will still be too inexepienced.
lethallee Posted 16 May, 2010 Posted 16 May, 2010 Antonio will not be here either next season as I think Reading will price us out of the running for him. Why spend money on him when there will be other players free or loans as he will still be too inexepienced. We have plenty of experience in the team so it is good to have younger players like Antonio who offer youthful enthusiasm and that element of unpredictability. Plus it's unlikely we will get a decent loanee with 'experience' that will be better than Antonio imo.
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 16 May, 2010 Posted 16 May, 2010 it all depends how much Waigo would cost. I have never seen a figure mentioned. £250,000 worth a shout....£1m - no rather go with Antonio who is still improving.
Jesus Reigned Posted 16 May, 2010 Posted 16 May, 2010 Papa said in an interviews that he thinks he can play at a higher level so I doubt we'll see him again. well, he is a tad deluded then You don't think Papa's good enough to play a higher level than League 1? He'd easily do well in the Championship or equivalent level IMO.
Harry Faz Posted 16 May, 2010 Posted 16 May, 2010 You don't think Papa's good enough to play a higher level than League 1? He'd easily do well in the Championship or equivalent level IMO. Agree - he would do very well at CCC level - think he has been one of the most exciting players we have sen for a very long time. would love to sign him on a permanent basis.
Thedelldays Posted 16 May, 2010 Posted 16 May, 2010 You don't think Papa's good enough to play a higher level than League 1? He'd easily do well in the Championship or equivalent level IMO. he cant even be a starter for a league 1 team...and I have never seen a player (bar BWP) stray offside so much good and unpredictable...but would struggle against better players
doddisalegend Posted 16 May, 2010 Posted 16 May, 2010 he cant even be a starter for a league 1 team...and I have never seen a player (bar BWP) stray offside so much good and unpredictable...but would struggle against better players What like scoring twice against Juventus in one match;)
Thedelldays Posted 16 May, 2010 Posted 16 May, 2010 What like scoring twice against Juventus in one match;) yep..djimi traore played a part in the champions league final and got a medal.....he is turd if papa is that good..why is he a sub for a league 1 team..? he is a decent player that can come on and have an impact on a game at times
doddisalegend Posted 16 May, 2010 Posted 16 May, 2010 yep..djimi traore played a part in the champions league final and got a medal.....he is turd still played for several EPL teams though and now Monaco so being turd isn't a barrier to playing at a higher level;) if papa is that good..why is he a sub for a league 1 team..? Becuase APs nose was put out of joint by having a player fostered on him by NC? he is a decent player that can come on and have an impact on a game at times Papa's not world class in fact he has probably found his level with us his best stint in Italy was playing in Serie B. Personally I'd rather have Papa up front than Barnard.
Thedelldays Posted 16 May, 2010 Posted 16 May, 2010 Papa's not world class in fact he has probably found his level with us his best stint in Italy was playing in Serie B. Personally I'd rather have Papa up front than Barnard. I would not..barnard is a proven striker at this level...
doddisalegend Posted 16 May, 2010 Posted 16 May, 2010 I would not..barnard is a proven striker at this level... Barnard is like a poor version of Lambert I think they're too similair to play well both have the pace of a cart horse. I think a pacey player with some skill to benfit from Lambert's flick ons and be first to those second balls would be better Barnard isn't that player. IMO If papa had played every week up front I reckon he would have got more goals than Barnard this season.
