thorpie the sinner Posted 13 May, 2010 Posted 13 May, 2010 Is this still a role that NC thinks needs filling?
John B Posted 13 May, 2010 Posted 13 May, 2010 (edited) No idea but I dont think it will happen in the near future But it would be nice to know Edited 13 May, 2010 by John B
Red Alert Posted 13 May, 2010 Posted 13 May, 2010 Doubt it to be honest, he hasn't said anything about it recently. Maybe he is getting on with the job better than he would have expected of himself and doesn't feel the need to appoint anyone.
Saint_clark Posted 13 May, 2010 Posted 13 May, 2010 Nope, he said in that big interview he did that it doesn't seem like something that would work here (at this time).
thorpie the sinner Posted 13 May, 2010 Author Posted 13 May, 2010 Are you offering your services? I would be giving press conferences every day to avoid any confusion amongst fans lol!!!!!
Wade Garrett Posted 13 May, 2010 Posted 13 May, 2010 The most useless job in football. Everything should be between the manager and the CEO/Chairman (depending on the structure of the club).
John B Posted 13 May, 2010 Posted 13 May, 2010 The most useless job in football. Everything should be between the manager and the CEO/Chairman (depending on the structure of the club). Yes you are right but the idea has not been denied as far as I have heard
Bwanamakubwa Posted 13 May, 2010 Posted 13 May, 2010 It doesnt have to be a pointless job. The assumption would be that the DoF, scouts, and coaches can stay at a club for decade(s). The manager changes more frequently - its the nature of the role. This gives a solid continuity within the club behind the scenes, and links the football side. Its a method used by Lyon, and although there is a bit more to it than that, they were playing in the third tier of French football when they were taken over around 20 years ago.
VectisSaint Posted 13 May, 2010 Posted 13 May, 2010 Is this still a role that NC thinks needs filling? Don't think the job Director of football was ever mentioned. It was Sporting Director. That means it covers the new basketball, rugby, athletics and cycling teams that will become part of the Southampton family, as in Spain and Portugal
Chez Posted 13 May, 2010 Posted 13 May, 2010 just as long as David "curb crawling/I think McGoldrick is easily worth £1.25m" Pleat is not offered the job.
St Landrew Posted 13 May, 2010 Posted 13 May, 2010 Between them, Cortese and Pardew seem to be filling the role of DoF just fine, at the moment. No hurry.
LeBenali Posted 13 May, 2010 Posted 13 May, 2010 Possibly it will be something they will consider giving Les Reed in the next couple of years or so?
Clifford Nelson Posted 13 May, 2010 Posted 13 May, 2010 On NC's announcement today it rather seems that he hasn't any need for a DoF, since he knows it all himself already.
Johnny Shearer Posted 13 May, 2010 Posted 13 May, 2010 I am available - I should qualify being an accountant soon and have several years of experience in a number of businesses. Now to email Mr Cortese!
Andy_Porter Posted 13 May, 2010 Posted 13 May, 2010 Just a case of too many cooks spoil the broth IMO. Better off without a DOF at our level.
Badger Posted 13 May, 2010 Posted 13 May, 2010 What's Les Reid's job? As I understand it he is overseeing scouting/recruitment for the academy.
Matthew Le God Posted 13 May, 2010 Posted 13 May, 2010 What's Les Reid's job? http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2025768,00.html
Romsaint Posted 14 May, 2010 Posted 14 May, 2010 I think a DOF would be good to act as a buffer between AP and NC if it is true that they do not get on !
