View From The Top Posted 12 May, 2010 Author Posted 12 May, 2010 Hope it's a Friday. I'm hoping for the Wednesday night before a bank holiday weekend! Just wondered how it all works as Liz is looking mighty old now.
NickG Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 do we get days off for national mourning? you run out of holiday allowance at work and got something planned? sicky is probably safer.
Trader Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 If she's anything like her mum we've got a few years to wait yet. I used to be in the print game and we prepared a special edition for the Queen Mum's demise 15 YEARS before she popped her clogs. I don't think it ever made the news stands - it was a bit out of date by then.
benjii Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 Yeah, I'm pretty sure the day of the funeral would be a public holiday and quite possibly the day of coronation of Charles would be too.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 Tesco would open regardless. In fact, even if there were multiple nuclear bombs dropped on our country, Tesco would still open. Bastards.

Discussion with colleagues that the queen had seen 12 PMs come and go during her reign during which someone mention her age and that she look quite old now. That begged the question of when she'd croak it (after 2012 Olympics was the consensus) and would the country be, effectively, shut down for national mourning as none of us were around the last time it happened.
View From The Top Posted 12 May, 2010 Author Posted 12 May, 2010 too late, security services are already monitoring you They have been for years. 8-[
Hatch Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 Defo one for the funeral, I work in London anyway , so London would probably be closed. I'm liking the one for the Coronation as well. Hopefully it will be summer time, So we can sit in a pub all day toasting Charles III Not forgetting, one for Dear Old Maggie as well. She may well go first.
View From The Top Posted 12 May, 2010 Author Posted 12 May, 2010 Not forgetting, one for Dear Old Maggie as well. She may well go first. Don't tease as I have her on my death list, as I do every year.
Jillyanne Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 Don't tease as I have her on my death list, as I do every year. Strange hobby.
krissyboy31 Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 So we can sit in a pub all day toasting Charles III. Isn't he going to be something else? Edward IX??? I believe they think Charles is an unlucky name for the monarch (beheadings and all that).
The9 Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 Isn't he going to be something else? Edward IX??? I believe they think Charles is an unlucky name for the monarch (beheadings and all that). From Wiki : However, Charles has suggested that he may choose to reign as George VII
rpb Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 That begged the question of when she'd croak it (after 2012 Olympics was the consensus) and would the country be, effectively, shut down for national mourning as none of us were around the last time it happened. I was around! I can't remember what happened though...
bridge too far Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 I was around! I can't remember what happened though... So was I! I don't remember the king dying but I do remember the coronation - watching it on my auntie's tiny black and white TV set. If the coronation was on a weekday, it must have been a public holiday or at least a school holiday.
Matthew Le God Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 We would yes, but we shouldn't. Why it affects anyone other than the monarch's friends and family I don't know. Why goto someone's funeral or mourn them if you weren't friend or family? (Especially one born by sheer chance into a monarchy.) Let alone have a national day of mourning. What happened in terms of a nation mourning Diana was laughable.
Hatch Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 In fact, thinking about it further, being a Windsor resident I should get a least a month off as compassionate leave, what with her being a close neighbour 'n all. Probably get invited to the wake anyhows.
bridge too far Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 Aren't we getting an (additional) bank holiday because of her Diamond Jubilee or something similar?

I'm hoping she sees Chas off, then we might have a chance to be rid of the lot them.
hamster Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 Maybe we should take the opportunity to make the memory of her reign special, as in her being our last ever monarch? I'd vote for that. It's nought personal, I just don't like her and her sort and what they represent.
badgerx16 Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 (edited) Charles is an unlucky name for the monarch (beheadings and all that). Charles 1st - beheaded Charles 2nd - pro-Catholic wastrel who failed to father a legitimate heir Charles 3rd (?) - end of the line Long live the Republic Edited 12 May, 2010 by badgerx16
Thedelldays Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 I can imagine they will...the RN will pull the gun carriages at windsor and in london for the funeral

Probably get invited to the wake anyhows. Me too! ( ...until last year, and it's still my regular binge drinking town of choice...) Many times have I stood outside the castle drunkenly challenging her maj for a fight. She's never accepted, just as well when she can cut my head off.
Dog Posted 13 May, 2010 Posted 13 May, 2010 I like the Queen, what wrong has she ever done anyone? God Save the Queen!

Hatch Posted 13 May, 2010 Posted 13 May, 2010 Everyone will be sad when Maggie goes, those who say they will celebrate are just in denial. They really appreciate her deep down inside.
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 13 May, 2010 Posted 13 May, 2010 William Hague wasn't that bad. Que? John Major, surely? Did they also think they were the Queen then? To clarify: Baroness Barmy.
