dune Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 Money is only of real value if spent wisely, Pardew has for me demonstrated an ability to do just that. I agree, but he's not Alex Fergusson. When alls said and done he's a manager that used to manage in the Premiership and is now managing in League 1. He's hardly irreplaceable.
dune Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 Having said that, if he is sacked then they are going to have to employ a massive name to appease the fans and sell season tickets. I disagree. I'm convinced that with or without pardew and with or without a rise in ST sales we'll fill the ground if we're top of the league. If NC sacks Pardew and his replacement get's us to the top of the league all this mithering will go away.
dune Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 Um, which "tiny minority" are you specifically referring to ? 181 people are currently viewing "The Saints". Given that our fanbase is probably in excess of 100,000 you do the maths.
Thedelldays Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 I see people are already starting to turn against NC Maybe he and markus should just fuk off and then see how good we will be.
S-Clarke Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 I see people are already starting to turn against NC Maybe he and markus should just fuk off and then see how good we will be. I don't think people are turning against him, most of us can see what he's done and we'd ben screwed without him and ML - but that doesn't mean he's closed to critisism and i feel there are a few things he could and should have handled much better than he has.

Are they...where? all I see is one or two people a bit concerned over reports from The Mail, The Echo, Radio Solent, Football League Show and not just on here as some want to believe. Thats the problem on here far to many willing to attack others point of view rather than look at why they think it.
StuRomseySaint Posted 12 May, 2010 Author Posted 12 May, 2010 Examples? Daily Echo situation. Comments made about Pardew Season Tickets The whole Pardew situation. Rubbishing some of the more serious speculation.

But then again, I am a spiteful bastard :-)
Matthew Le God Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 (edited) 1) Daily Echo situation. 2) Comments made about Pardew 3) Season Tickets 4) The whole Pardew situation. 5) Rubbishing some of the more serious speculation. 1) It is not public knowledge what went on with the Echo. So hard for anyone to form an opinion either for/against either party concerned. 2) All he said was he expected the team to do better given the money spend. I think he has a point. Pardew hasn't done badly, but he could have done better given the huge difference in resources at his disposal compared to other League One clubs. I want Pardew to stay btw 3) They clearly have reasons for not selling them yet, maybe details aren't 100% confirmed. The police deciding not to change the away end recently may have required a rethink! A large number of clubs haven't got them on sale. I'd imagine they will be in good time. 4 & 5) Pardew himself has stated there will be a lot of speculation over the summer and he won't be responding to it. I agree with him, I see no reason why he or Cortese should respond to every rumour Fleet Street/Daily Echo/Saints Forum come up with. If something is going to happen it will happen. Give it to Ron Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 1) 4 & 5) Pardew himself has stated there will be a lot of speculation over the summer and he won't be responding to it. I agree with him, I see no reason why he or Cortese should respond to every rumour Fleet Street/Daily Echo/Saints Forum come up with. If something is going to happen it will happen. No-one expects them to answer every rumour but you must admit that if 4 or 5 media outlets are quoting the same story this needs quashing before it gets out of hand...if it hasn't already.
Matthew Le God Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 No-one expects them to answer every rumour but you must admit that if 4 or 5 media outlets are quoting the same story this needs quashing before it gets out of hand...if it hasn't already. Those 4 or 5 media outlets are just rehashing the Daily Mail story. The Daily Mail story has NO quotes or sources attached and is completely unsubstantiated. Cortese therefore probably believes it isn't worth a moment of his time to respond to such poor journalism. Neither should any fan take any notice of a rumour lacking it details.

I agree with him, I see no reason why he or Cortese should respond to every rumour Fleet Street/Daily Echo/Saints Forum come up with. If something is going to happen it will happen. 1) Once again, the club refused to comment on Daily Echo stories saying they had been banned etc... bad move PR wise. 2) The way he put his comments across fuelled speculation, and he has done nothing since to publicly stand by his manager. 3) Wrong, nearly every single club has them on sale now, or at least the details released. 4 & 5) If you read my point, I said 'serious' speculation... like pulling the programmes... if you don't want speculation about the manager then you release a statement explaining why the programmes were pulled.

merrimd Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 Out of interest, how many times should NC deny a rift between himself and AP? Reported in the Daily Echo back in march - "But the Saints chairman has denied there has ever been any rift with manager Alan Pardew over the team’s results or position.". Do we need him to repeat himself on a weekly basis? After all, these reports in the DM seem to be repeating the same story from february with no new sources coming forward.

I'd be interested to see an example of a club, not in admin, who has yet to put STs on sale. As your confident would you care to supply an example?

Each member of staff at St Marys should wear their particular grievances on their foreheads, so that fans can see exactly what's going on. Those that have no grievances should have the information stamped as such. There you go, that makes as much sense as the original post.

Don't need to do the maths but I do wonder where all these 100,000 fans are ? What I do know is 777 people voted on the thread regarding keeping AP as manager and 726 were 100% in favour of him staying.

saint_stevo Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 Maybe NC is getting his own back for those who booed him at Wembley
dune Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 With the previous regime one never knew what was happening. I just think a little patience is what is called for. We'll get to know what's happening soon enough. Not true. With the previous regime they'd leak snippets to the chosen few uber fans who would in turn nudge and wink and divulge snippets in a collective display of egotistical self gratifying smugness.
SaintRichmond Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 Unlike the majority I'm indifferent to Pardew. If he stays i'll be happy, if he goes I won't be bothered. The driving force behind Saints resurgence is not Alan Pardew - it's Markus Liebherrs money. That may be so, but having a load of money does NOT guarentee success What would be the point in starting ALL OVER AGAIN with a new Manager New Managers cause upsets at the outset, bringing in their own people, assessing and changing the Squad etc etc Cortese outlined a FIVE YEAR PLAN, and he should stick to it Review Pardew after 18 months as he initially said If NC goes back on his word now, he is no better than what we have had in the past IMHO:cool:
Arizona Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 Now when NC took over I thought that the club was in the right hands, he seemed a shrewd character, he took no sh!t but also he seemed to look after the clubs fans. Now, we are fast approaching June and the club have not released prices of Season Tickets, I believe this is going to prove a massive mistake, especially if, as expected Cortese sacks Pardew... as regardless of who is the new manager, the 'feel-good' factor will be wiped out. The club have done nothing to come forward and confirm or deny rumours as to why the club pulled the football programmes on Saturday, if it was an innocent reason, it would have not taken much to give the reasons... I have spoke to a few people who have looked through the programme and none can find an obvious reason in the programme. We have not had any sort of statement from Marcus Liebherr... a simple statement on his thoughts about the season would have done so much for good PR. The club have not stepped forward and rubbished any rumours so far this year. I do not know of a single person who has recieved a personal reply from Cortese about any issues, it seems everything is passed on to Dave Luker. Say what you like about Lowe, he did take time to engage with fans, and if he didn't, he passed it on to Cowan. I can't help feeling that the club is less transparent than when Lowe was in charge... and NO that doesn't mean I am calling for Saints Trust to reform. Expected by who? The Daily Heil? A poster I've never met who's just got a text from a mate who works in the Megastoe? I'm sure as heck not expecting Pardew to get fired.
Matthew Le God Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 Are they.....I thought all this blew up from Radio Solent on Saturday. Radio Solent gave no quotes or sources either. Radio Solent also raised the point of Liebherr not being at the Southend game because he is unhappy. At no point did they consider impeding the flight restriction to Switzerland or any quotes or sources. Atm it is all unfounded speculation.
once_bitterne Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 If it wasn't for Uncle Markus' Billions to spend NC would have a chance of being even more hated than Lowe. His behaviour traits certainly are very simlar. Maybe even worse, Rupes certainly never sacked a manager who won 10 home games in a row!
Matthew Le God Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 Maybe even worse, Rupes certainly never sacked a manager who won 10 home games in a row! And neither has Cortese. If the Daily Mail told you looking at post boxes gave you cancer would you believe them? Pretty much the same as a Pardew leaving story that contents no evidence.
JRM Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 With the previous regime one never knew what was happening. I just think a little patience is what is called for. We'll get to know what's happening soon enough. Yes, but the point is the club are encouraging specualtion with their secretive approach to everything. The programme affair was the strangest of the lot. Ask anyone who works in sales and marketing, the key to good performance is capturing your market at the right time, we have had some great opportunities to attract new season ticket holders, around the time of the JPT final at Wembley, even the last game of the season with nearly 26k in attendance. I would bet the number of hits on the official site go down considerably around this time of year, people just aren't thinking about going along to saints, especially the part time fans who might be tempted to get a season ticket at the right price. Now when details are announced they'll have to find other ways of advertising to those who wont neccessarily be looking out for the details.

I agree unfounded speculation in 4 or 5 media outlets that need quashing as I said.
dune Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 Now when details are announced they'll have to find other ways of advertising to those who wont neccessarily be looking out for the details. It'll be an unprecedented and mamoth undertaking, but I assume they'll go the extra mile and post out some letters.

Yes they shouldn't respond to every bit of speculation, but if there was no substance in it, we would have heard that from Cortese or Pardew... we haven't heard anything.
St Landrew Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 Not true. With the previous regime they'd leak snippets to the chosen few uber fans who would in turn nudge and wink and divulge snippets in a collective display of egotistical self gratifying smugness. Well, yes I'll admit that's true. It was smokescreen or nothing.
Matthew Le God Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 So you stating it all came from The Mail this week is wrong then and it was from Adam Blackmore from Radio Solent on Saturday! I agree unfounded speculation in 4 or 5 media outlets that need quashing as I said. It doesn't need quashing when to anyone with an ounce of common sense sees it for what it is - i.e. unfounded speculation with no quotes or source. Adam Blackmore is clearly a fool for suggesting Liebherr wasn't their because he was upset. He clearly didn't look any deeper as to other possible reason why a man that lives in Switzerland may not be at the stadium when it was expected that air space would be closed close to the game ending.
Scudamore Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 Which clubs haven't? think you will find they all do unless in Admin. I've been to all away games in latter part of the season and every teams programme had season ticket details in from march onwards. Norwich/MK Dons have even been selling thiers for the past 3 months at much reduced prices Could this the problem with the programme then? They printed the wrong season ticket prices? Whoops!
aintforever Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 Maybe details aren't 100% confirmed. The police deciding not to change the away end recently may have required a rethink! If that was the case it wouldn't kill them to say so on the OS. That's the whole point, there is zero transparency. Considering we are going through a feel good phase having won our first trophy for donkey's years, the fact that there is ANY negativity shows their PR for what it is - an complete disaster.
Arizona Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 Can we at least put the "Liebherr not at the Game because he was unhappy at Pardew" one to bed. It is far more likely he was just unable to get here because of the ash cloud over Switzerland. Or he could have been busy and had something more important to do than attend a meaningless friendly against Southend. As far as I can remember Liebherr was at the Carlisle game. So what are we suggesting, he was happy before that game, but it was a meaningless defeat by our second string at Gillingham which has cost Pardew his job? I am 'expecting' it to happen, the reason I expect it to happen is due to the club not doing anything to deny it will happen. Yes they shouldn't respond to every bit of speculation, but if there was no substance in it, we would have heard that from Cortese or Pardew... we haven't heard anything. They haven't released any statement ST details yet either. I doubt this is because they are getting rid of season tickets.
St Landrew Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 Yes, but the point is the club are encouraging specualtion with their secretive approach to everything. The programme affair was the strangest of the lot. Now when details are announced they'll have to find other ways of advertising to those who wont neccessarily be looking out for the details. Look, I understand that Saints supporters are a speculative lot. Let's face it, the years of Lowe and Co, didn't and don't exactly make for calm environment training. But people need to cool down a bit. The news will come out, as it will, when the time is right for it to come out. Do you think it'll be any different or better just because it comes out a day or two earlier..?
Give it to Ron Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 It doesn't need quashing when to anyone with an ounce of common sense sees it for what it is - i.e. unfounded speculation with no quotes or source. stevegrant Posted 12 May, 2010 Posted 12 May, 2010 3) They clearly have reasons for not selling them yet, maybe details aren't 100% confirmed. I am having a slow work day, Southampton are the only team out of the current League 1 who do not have season tickets on sale, Huddersfield, Millwall and Charlton all have theirs on sale. As I said, we are the only club not to have them on sale at the moment. There may well be a reason for this, but as customers, we deserve to know why.
