View From The Top Posted 10 May, 2010 Share Posted 10 May, 2010 According to the meeting held with the PCP he's said a minority government is out and that they will have to offer a referendum on PR but that the tories will free to campaign against it. Ludwig Posted 10 May, 2010 Share Posted 10 May, 2010 I thought it was a referendum on AV they were offering, which is pretty much a nothing offer anyway? Or is this new info?

Saintandy666 Posted 10 May, 2010 Share Posted 10 May, 2010 AV is not PR, it is infact sometimes less proportional than FPTP. It is maybe an improvement. Would probably benefit Lib Dems and Tories most, as UKIP will finish last in many seats and they will pick Tories as 2nd place most likely. I'd also suggest that the greens and other parties may finish last in a lot of constituencies and they would have 2nd choice as Lib Dems perhaps, but meh, that's just my thinking. Under AV the Lib Dems would have been the second biggest party in 1997 and the Tories literally wiped out and under 100 seats so it really isn't that great. pedg Posted 10 May, 2010 Share Posted 10 May, 2010 According to elec reform soc figures are on the lines of: Actual FPTP 307, 258,57,26 predicted AV 281,262,79,28 predicted STV 246,207,162,35 So though not as good for the libdems as STV AV would have given them even more influence than with FPTP.
