Brainwashing fence-sitting mentalist.

To clarify :

The people who care about this stuff generally don't care about world economies as a measure of qualify of life.

The people who measure things in terms of world economies and money don't care about ecological biodiversity.

Viz, never the twain shall meet.

Hence my point that maybe people need to broaden their horizons and realise that things quite often *are* linked.

Quite how that makes me a brainwashing mentalist I dunno.

That's cos you're a brainwashed mentalist. :D

Actually, seriously I can see your point, but the polarities of people who care about the two sides of this make it impossible for there to be any common ground, it's always going to be evil rainforest demolishing moneymen versus tree-hugging hippie crappers.

On an unrelated note, have you seen Avatar ?

I know what you mean, but I genuinely don't think it's as bad as you might think... more often than not most people fall in between the polar opposites in any argument and can relate to points made on both sides. As people become more educated about an issue, they can then make more informed judgements.

And no, not seen Avatar yet but intend to.

Article on the Beeb today, which I find quite interesting... many of you won't I know, but it does highlight the importance of looking after the natural world IMO... something many overlook, seemingly thinking that it is unconnected or unimportant to how we live our lives.

I fell asleep with my eyes open after the first line, sorry!

I once came across an eminent ecologist who took the stance that we are continually meddling with ecosystems.

Now according to him (won't name him,you can look it up if you're really interested,it must be in the public domain somewhere)

we shouldn't try to heal the sick in Africa (or elsewhere) or eradicate naturally occuring diseases or try to prevent or minisimise natural disasters.

So you see not all ecologists are Mr Nice Guys.

Probably most of the best ecologists/conservationists think like that.
