Mark Hughes has won just over 100 games of 300 games managed this isn't sucesss! ok it's at a higher level but at Man city he had the pick of the worlds best! He has no experiance of lower leagues & the dog fights you have to get into mid season ..

Agree Hughes would not be a good appointment at this level, and his record at Man City was not that impressive when considering how much he spent.

AP should continue the job he has started and the team that he is shaping. If AP goes then we would herald the return of the revolving door policy for managers and plaing staff alike that has been disastrous in the past.

You say he has no lower league experience but he has, he was Wales manager ;-)

You might have a point there. I thought and hoped Lowe had taken the revolving door with hin.

Without the minus 10 the playoffs would not have been the target!!

Without the -10 we were 3 points short of automatic having played a weakened team at Gills last week. And that was after an incredibly difficult start with no pre-season. Since Sept, our form has been automatic promotion.

I would be devastated to see AP go.

I hope he has, this could all just be rumour with no substance..........here's hoping anyway!

ffs - Didn't Ladbrokes stop bets last year in July on WGS being the new Saints manager? What a load of b*ll*x. One of them 'my brothers girlfriends sisters dog' type report. We had someone reporting that the programmes weren't published because their brother told him that they hadn't printed any due to a c*ck up at the printers, then people reporting that they had seen the magazine.

Rumours are dangerous. I support Pardew 100%

This. NO WAY would Ladbrokes state who the replacement was even if AP was going and they knew who was replacing him ( they won't have a clue), heaven help us. The silly season is well and truly going into over drive !

Keep up - since the OPs brothers girlfriends sisters dogs adopted son tried to put a bet on earlier today. ADMIN PLEASE LOCK THE THREAD - TIS POINTLESS UNFOUNDED DRIVEL (and loads of other threads yesterday and today covering the same ground)

Agreed.

PEOPLE, calm down!

If Pompey were claiming that Hughes was about to take them over, somebody on here would have posted the link and we'd have all had a good chuckle at the dangerously high levels of self importance. The chance of us getting Mark Hughes is tiny. We are in League 1 ffs, there are plenty of sides that he would go to before us. If Hughes had taken over at QPR everybody would have been a little surprised, so let's get some perspective.

Pardew has done a great job here, turning around the team to looking like next season's league winners. But let us also remember that it is the support of ML and NC that has made this possible, the negative (and empirically unwarranted) abuse that NC is starting to get makes me wonder if we are so used to hating the man at the top we can't see when we're acting like spoilt children. Most fans would kill for our set-up, so let's enjoy it a bit more.

Finally, the fact that Pardew has done an amazing job here does not make him a better manager than Hughes. Tactically, Hughes is fantastic. He could set up that Blackburn side to beat anybody on their day, and is still the only manager to really get anything out of David Bentley. Pardew is good for Southampton, but that doesn't mean he is THE BEST for Southampton. It is possible for him to be worse than other managers, we don't have to argue that he's the new Fergie.

Mark Hughes has achieved exactly squat as a manager not one trophy, no promotions not even an FA cup final. All things AP has achieved. While there are better managers than AP Hughes is not one of them.

Hughes record - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Hughes

Pardews record - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Pardew

Taking into account its wiki AP has a greater % of wins then Hughes says it all for me.

Be very careful people giving NC to much power could turn into a nightmare be warned...

ML is the top man NC is on the staff remember that....

I certainly don't want Pardew to go but the worst thing we can do as fans is to overly-criticise NC is it does happen. Pardew obviously promised promotion this season in January and in effect may have cost the club a few million as a result. Looking to next season I'm sure it'll be a daft decision but NC would live and learn. We won't be lingering down here for too long even if I was in charge.

On the other hand, if we start giving bull sh!t to NC then it would only certainly start testing his patience and the last thing we as fans should be doing is disrespecting a man without whom we may not have a club. If AP does go, just look at it a bit objectively and hopefully reaslise that it isn't the end of the world and maybe just a learning curve for Cortesse.

Posted

The bookies are stopping bets because so many people are regurgitating the same rumours and think they'll be onto a winner by going to the bookie. This doesn't solidify any rumours IMO

Disagree Paris, we don't need to be getting on his back, he's far more important to the club than Handsome Alan.

Lets not all start slagging Nicola off?? SFC really need him, more than he needs us.

I don't think anyone is slagging Mr. Cortesse of, just questioning (if rumours are true) the wisdom of replacing Pardew! Also Mr Cortesse is a paid member of staff, it's Mr. Liehber we be fooked without!

what do you mean giving him too much power? he's the chief exec, he is effectively making all of the decisions.

the stupid thing is fans thinking they have the power to dictate what the chief exec should do. complaining about the man who has saved our club (after all, he proposed the idea to ML) isn't going to make him think twice about decisions, it'll just make him like the club a little less. pointless.

My missus watched that Over The Rainbow show about picking a Dorothy for the West End show.

She informed me on Thursday that the bookies had stopped taking bets on a girl called Jenny and asked what it meant. So I told her it meant they had received a lot of bets, or a huge bet, on her winning and they didnt want to lose anymore.

Last night Jenny was knocked out of the competition.

In other words, it doesnt mean a thing IF ladbrokes have suspended betting on AP getting the sack.

Is he though, surely the manager is the only man that can deliver the success? Sure, the owner pumps in the money, the Chairman hires and fires staff but it's the manager that makes the signings, builds the team, forms tactics, makes the decisions, without a good manager it doesn't matter how much money you throw at it, you won't win anything!

I don't want rid of Handsome alan but I believe if he went we would replace him with someone who with our squad will get us promoted next season, no problem.

Hughes was gash at City, would be dumb to sack Pardew now. We would be the new QPR.

no we wont...getting 4 or 5 managers in two seasons would be the new QPR

we have no idea what goes on behind closed doors..maybe NC just dont get on at all....

maybe pars has been caught talking to west ham..

there is so much we dont know

I DO KNOW that the new lot have not really been wrong so far..

But with who? Everyone on here seems to agree that Hughes dropping down to this level is about as likely as John W3stwood getting laid, so who out there has a record as good as Al's? Let's just hope that it's all just pub talk and there's nothing in it, if we're still signing (Brighton rb) you'd guess it's with the managers blessing, our current manager!

if ALL the premier league jobs were avilable right now..who would get the most jobs..pardew or hughes..

hughes will win..quite easily

Plenty of quality managers who would love to come to us, we are rich, we are a great career move for a manager, look at Pardew, after Charlton he was damaged goods now if he is sacked he will be in demand again.

agree, NC would be being totally foolish imho if he considered, for even a short moment, sacking Pardew on performance.

He will be snapped up, probably by a club a lot higher than us.

you make out that pardew has performed some sort of miracle..when he clearly has not

he has done well...but not gushingly and deffo should have next season

I agree, they have invested in the new training facility and the team, they have appointed a proven, successful Premiership English manager, they now need to back him, just release a statement outlining that!

Well, that's that then IMO.

F*ck f*ck f*ck.

If Pardew leaves that really WILL be the start of the break up of our team.

why would it..why do people keep saying such tosh..

I like Alan, I think we should keep him but with the team we have pretty much any half decent manager would get us promoted. Kenny Jackett from Millwall if they don't go up, Cotterill from Notts county, Swindon bloke if thye don't go up.

The players have all got behind Pardew and signed for this club to join HIS team.

Not all of them will want to go, but I reckon Lambert for one would want to leave. I also couldn't see Antonio wanting to sign for us.

You can guarantee that Pard's would walk straight into a new job and come knocking for our players straight away.

it would just mean this season has been a total pointless waste of time.

hold on..what happened to the "we are not a selling club" and "it would take a huge offer for our players" and "no one in the CCC could afford to take lambert from us"...?

would that not be the case if say hughes was manager..?

You're forgetting "if a player wants to leave then we won't force them to stay".

If it is true then we have made no further ground since having Lowe in respect of a `new era` in saints owners.

All this talk of a plan and working as a team would just confirm to some fans (I included) that football hasn`t and wont change no matter who is at the club...its all about money and power.

it would just unsettle the entire club and it's a change that we really do not need. It would still take hugue offers, but it would throw some players futures in the air if Pard's did come sniffing.

i just want to enjoy the world cup and forget about saints until july!

if a prem club came in for lambert and lallana, they would go regardless of who is in charge

Hope this isn't true. Can see us losing Lambert & Lallana if AP goes. Won't be happy at all if he is sacked.
