If this is ends up being confirmed, then surely this would put to bed any rumours of Pardew leaving as surely he would not be signing players if he was not going to be here next season. Or was this a NC signing?

seems like he is still officially an alaves player which may mean that we've simply out-bid brighton at this stage. i'm not sure that brighton could know any more than that for sure as it would be private negotiations between saints and alaves which would have to be finalised. does look likely tho. played a few games for them in la liga before being more regular in their 'b' team recently.

Fantastic signing if true, he's been brilliant for Brighton this season and would certainly solve our RB problem seeing as Murty is never fit, James seems to be off and Otsemobor doesn't seem to be quite up to scratch. He's a good attacking fullback who is solid defensively.

''Southampton's turnover is always going to be much higher than ours but I didn't think they were out of the financial MIRE just yet.

At least we have stability.

Hope he bankrupts them ''

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Confirmation from Poyet -

'"I want to thank Calde because he helped us a lot.

"Unfortunately I'm very disappointed because he has chosen to wait for an offer from Southampton and not to sign for us with everything agreed.

"The disappointment is big. Everything was agreed.

"It was only the contract to sign but he decided to wait for a possible offer from another club in this division.

"The club is Southampton, who we cannot compete with.

"We clarified a few weeks ago that if somebody thinks we are the Chelsea or Manchester City in the division, we are not. That is Southampton.

"If they are going to buy the players and pay more than the rest there is nothing we can do about it.

"We have withdrawn the offer.

"We don't accept players agreeing contracts and not signing.

"We are a proper club and he had until midnight yesterday but the offer is gone and he is not going to be our player.

"I can promise you that.

ah, fair enough. could only make out that brighton only had him for the short-term on their forum so assumed it was a loan. i'll go back to sleep.

To be honest i'd never heard of him until reading this thread so thought I'd look him up to see where he's played and whether anyone else thought he was good or not!

Great signing if true and quite a stunning statement of intent from the club. I think this signals the end of Murtys career and a wave goodbye to James too perhaps. Not sure what Semi's going to think playing 2nd fiddle to the new signing though - could it break team spirit?

why do people keep saying this..I dont think the club needs to make more statements..it is there for all to see what we want to do

All good teams have competition for places don`t they??

Still think we may sign another RB this summer if Ostemobor leaves and this chap has indeed joined. Simon Francis today for Southend looked very good and a decent set piece taker from deep i.e. no need for Davis to get involved!

I was talking in terms of how early we've started to make a move to get the squad sorted for next season already. It's been a LONG time since we've been linked with signing a decent player BEFORE the close season even starts. Nothing wrong with setting a high bar and communicating that level of intent with actions rather than words surely?!

What i find quite funny about reading their comments is that they think they are richer then us. For a group of people who claim to know so much about "****hole southampton" you would of thought they would know we have a multi-billionaire owner now....

But money aside, maybe the guy just wants to achieve something in his career by moving up the leagues. Poyet in his interview said we are like the Man City of the lower leagues. I think he is wrong we are more like Chelsea. We spend money but only on players who actually make us better helping us to win things. Man City waste money on people who could not give a crap about the club and thus won't win anything.

Yes, they do and I agree it should only mean good things for the squad. But I don't think Semi has been that bad TBF to be dropped to the bench.

Yeah, cos Idiakez was reall crap wasn't he?! Idiot!!

tbf he was pretty **** for us. His performance v Bristol Rovers in the cup will always haunt me.

The Brighton fans on the board seem absolutely gutted about it and IF he does sign it'll be on a free by the sounds of it.

Good business all round if it happens.

It is a free, signed for Brighton, his contract ha run out and failed to agree a new contract.
