As the title asks, are there any stay at home dads on here, my misses wants me to give up work and look after the kids. Its something I would love to do, as I dont get enough quality time with my kids. However I have a few concerns.

so if so a couple of questions

1. are you glad you did it

2. how were/finances

3. would you recommend it

4. did it affect the relationship.

thanks in advance for for thoughts.

I was on a temporary contract when our (one year) maternity /paternity leave ran out. I refused a new contract and stayed at home with my daughter for an extra year unpaid. Money was tight, but it was one of the best things I ever did.

Let's face it, you won't look back in 15 years time and think "I wish I'd worked more when the kids were young." I love being with my kids and even though I loved my job too, it was no contest. It's much better for their development too.

It was only very good for our relationship too, far less stress in the house.

I was replaced in my job during that year, but ended up getting a better one immediately after.

Not a single regret.

Thanks Norwaysaint

I'm edging that way as I work 6 nights and do a bit on my day off. So really don't get the quality time with the kids.. Might hang on a few weeks and renew the kids and my season tickets... At least they are paid then

I raised my (now 5 year old) daughter for the first 2 years of her life. I am also the one to stay home wih her when she is ill, when her kindergarden is closed and I look after her all weekend, every weekend. (I now teach English at evening classes, so am mostly free during the day.)

IT IS THE MOST REWARDING THING I HAVE EVER DONE IN MY LIFE!

Okay, our situation was undoubtedly far different from yours. I had recently retired from the RN before she was born, so I receive a pension which is pretty good money for over here.

At the time I didn't spesak any Russian (and am still poor at it, to be honest) so it was a lot easier for my wife to go back to work than for me to find something.

Also: I enjoy cooking, and consider myself to be quite a good cook; I find going shopping, especially for food, quite a fun adventure (it helps to improve my Russian and is especially enjoyable in the summer months); I have no problems doing the housework; I adept with an iron, which I usually wield whilst watching some sporting event (or possibly a movie) on TV; the whole experience has made my daughter and I very close; I honestly believe my wife and I have a stronger relationship because of all this.

Of course, you will need to weigh up your own situation to see if this will work in your own family.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
