rpb Posted 4 May, 2010 Share Posted 4 May, 2010 Don't be put off by the title but 'Up Pompey' is a book that I am currently reading and it's really rather good! An American sportswriter grew tired of the usual American sports and spent a year in England looking at the Premier league - he decided to adopt Portsmouth because he once lived in Portsmouth, USA. It gives a really good insight into football and the crowds through the eyes of an outsider - e.g. 'I have never hard the English word f--- used in so many creative forms. I herd it as a noun, verb, adjective, adverb, conjunction. preposition, pejorative, subjunctive and maybe even a gerund.' Southampton gets a few mentions too. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Up-Pompey-Clueless-American-Sportswriter/dp/0753824124/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1272974822&sr=1-
