Daily Mail: "Pardew faces Saints axe"

we increased owe crowd this season by 3,000 after relegation.

no relegated club did that, nor any club staying the same division.

significant part of that is due to Pardew, his style of football and players he signed.

Wow, to get into the playoffs would almost certainly have needed us to have made 94 points with a brand new team that was still being assembled when the season had already started. That would have been a pretty big expectation.

I think you'd have to spend even more than we did to guarantee that.

There is no way they expected to definately be going up this season, hoped -yes, aimed for - yes, not expected.

If they expected it, and wanted to sack Pardew should he fail they could have done that at the end of September when it was clear Pardew could not guarantee it!

Disagree with most of the post as above.

Nick, I'm sure you have worked with and under totally objective managers who have no emotion or compassion within their management style or decision-making; who to the rest of us seem ruthless unsympathetic bastards but we have to accept that these people exist, are not rare and make life very uncomfortable. Also they are usually far more successful than the rest of us. If NC is one of those then loyalty and tradition and all those metaphors go out the window. Id somebody needs to be 'shot at dawn' as a reminder to the others so be it.

What we'd like and reality do not always co-incide!

Maybe but as I stated earlier Cortese is by no means a football expert and in that respect for him to decide who should be our manager becomes a very dubious issue and to make a change unless the present manager is not up to the job ( clearly not the case IMO) is just madness. I really don't care if Cortese is our owner, chairman, boot boy or whatever he knows less about football than most people on here without doubt and though I think he does an excellent job running the club in general he needs to seek advice from people who know the game and perhaps more importantly know the history of this club. It's been said many, many times but it is still a very valid point that who knows where this club would be if the club had not allowed LM 4 years to get us promotion back to the top flight. Patience is very sadly lacking in football these days but it's not a coincidence I believe that despite Benitez receiving a lot of stick at Anfield he is still there, the club know the importance of loyalty and continuity and even now there is more concern about Benitez leaving of his own accord rather than him being sacked. If Pardew is forced out I will assume NC and Co are not fit to run the footballing side of this club, on that point I am immovable. Pardew must stay, simple as that.

Pardew Leaving = Goodbye to Lambert, Lallana and other key players IMO.

I think its highly unlikely and that this is an old story, long since discredited.

But, given the strength of our backers it seems like we'd only replace Pards if we had someone better lined up. Someone better than Pards would be quite exciting!

That said I am a firm believer in consistent management and that we should give Pards x5 more years to get us in and established in the Premiership, something I think he can do.

I agree that is how NC seems, just would be surprised if he truly expected more

No quotes, no facts, no evidence - a 'non-article' if I ever saw one.

there is one half fact, came from an AP interview, he stated that reaching the play-offs was an "absolute minimum". Now that could be just a gee up for the players because I can't remember exactly when it was (around the beginning of March perhaps) but it could be something that NC had told him as well..

As the saying goes ... don't let facts get in the way of a good story

Why do the club say "no comment" though, if there isn't a shred of truth in the matter .

I realise you can't expect them to respond to every "ÄP ate my Hamster" story that crops up in these rags, but it would be nice to hear something positive about AP's future from them.

I think we'll hear something soon from the club if it's rubbish.

Sometimes it just boggles the mind....

"We need consistency!!!..... but we're going to sack a succesfull manager after a year!!"

Somebody please explain the logic?

Simple, their is none!

Or not. Another way of making a story, that has no foundation, go away, is to ignore it and let it die.

The Daily Mail in truth-not-alllowed-to-get-in-the-way-of-a-good-story shocker..!

Who would we replace him with?? I dont think Lambert, Grayson or Jackett would come here and the odds of attracting a manager from a higher league would be highly slim (would love to have O'Driscoll here though) and I dont think there are any out of work managers who could do the job AP has done and any that could do a decent job (Hughes and Mowbray only two that spring to my mind) would be well out of our price range. Had Coppell still been unemployed I could have seen it happening but due to a lack of other options I think NC should stick with his man, who IMO is doing a very good job and should been given until December 2010.

Fair one, I suppose the club have already denied it indirectly and directly about half a dozen times already.

If this was the 1930s and we were talking about the rise of Facism and internet forums had existed, if we'd listened to papers like that then we'd have ended up with Moseley as PM with Hitler's fist up his backside and speaking German. My Grandfathers didn't both fight in WWII - one as POW in Burma - for me to listen to anything that extremist, traitor rag has to say.

Put 20% VAT on all newspapers, Blair allegedly didn't do it because he was influenced by Murdoch - typical Blair, always out for #1. Getting back to Saints, this story is garbage.

Avram Grant would be my tip for a dark horse appointment.

I was told by someone very high up in the club a week ago, that Pardew will most likely be off in the summer. Apparently him and Cortese really don't get on and Cortese is keen to bring in a 'continental' manager.

Please tell me it won't be someone of Poortlivet's calibre :(

Please NO, I think that could just about be the only thing along with bringing back saggy chops that might cure my addiction to Saints.

Why ?

I was behind AP this season and will be behind him next season. I have simply questioned some of the things he has done, expressed my frustration at some performances and results, and questioned how NC sees things.

My call to support next seasons manager is perfectly reasonable.

We will all question SOME things that ANY manager does. That does not mean they should get the bullet. FWIW I believe this story to be a load of cobblers but if there is any truth in it it would be far from the "measured risk" that trousers referred to.

They claim Pardew was given "hansom" finance in January.

Was this to pay his cab fare, or is it meant to be 'handsome' and proof that the article was written by an idiot?

Newspaper headlines and photo straplines tend to be written by sub-editors rather than the journalist who wrote the article. So, it's not necessarily the journo who is the "idiot".

Of course, no one on here ever gets slated for a typo.... ;)

That steward who stands outside The Kingsland/Chapel corner turnstile.

He's about 6 foot 8 inches high :)

Man alive that guy is huge. Great bloke though, always has a bit of friendly banter, definitely one of the best stewards.

I was in the Superstore the other day, and a Security Guard ask me if I wanted to know something top secret. I said 'Yes' and he took me out back and showed me a surveillance video of Cortese kicking off after the Huddersfield game for only scoring 5. He then showed me a new shirt with a sash on it and 'Mourinho' on it, which is to be used when he moves here.

You've taken my remark way too seriously. But, seriously, I realise journalists do not do their own captions, however, i) 'hansom' is not a typo, it is ignorance ii) I do not expect Mail journalists to spell English correctly - though I'm sure they can spell 'Deutschland uber alles' correctly.

The only things I would ask is that if NC is going to do it, he needs to do it NOW, not later, and that all of those of you that really sulk over this find it in yourselves to get behind the new manager next season - its not his fault.

What ! like you did this season for AP?

some of us WILL give our support . in many ways .. unlike some

The fact that this is in the Mail means that I won't get too stressed about it. Only flick through this "newspaper" when visiting the parents, but have seen enough to know that they work under the premise that if they put in 20 rumours, 1 of them might turn out to be correct.

Pardew certainly should not be replaced. He wasn't able to bring in who he wanted at the start of the season because he joined so late, and we've seen the excellence of his signings in January. Fonte oozes class, Barnard scored 25 goals this season, and Puncheon in the League One team of the year. If he had this team in pre-season, we might well have asked why we didn't make the play-offs, but not in the current circumstances.

Also, if we'd been in League 2 or the Championship we would still be in the top 6.

Lowe just to get on well with Charlie Sale at the Daily Hate so I wouldn't be surprised if that's the source of this stuff.

Either way though, I'll be gutted to lose him as it'll show that nothing has changed with us and he's done IMHO a great job (from October onwards), but we can't do anything about it.

If Cortese does sack him, I hope he replaces him with an ex Rugby coach and 2 Dutch nobodies - that's a sure fire recipe for success....

If It's true it is ludicrous and potentially disatrous.

Pardew may not be a good Prem manager but he's plenty good enough to get us there.

Who else is out there both proven and better.

If it happens then we are back to the Lowe IQ school of Football Management.

Perhaps though he has been set the targets I've set him:

Automatic promotion by end March, over 100 points, undefeated in the league, good FA Cup run and retain Johnson's Paint Trophy; or get the sack.

Maybe he thinks the bar has been set too high, and complained!!
