Never understood that

Agent - 'hi son, fancy getting a good wage to stay in shape, have quite a lot of time off, minor celeb status, play football a couple of times ? Btw, if you don't play or are injured you'll still be paid ??

Player - 'No thanks, know if any decent call centre jobs are available ?'

except he went to play Gaelic football instead.

Would be great, if true! Although shouldn't we broaden our horizons and try to scout players beyond the City Ground?

I'd like to add that you should keep an eye on these two youngsters at Arsenal, I know I am

Emmanuel Frimpong - this guy is the next Michael Essien. Powerful, non-stop engine, he is a real beast in midfield. Destined to be a holding midfielder of absolute quality, England have lost out with him switching to Ghana.

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas - This guy is built like a brick ****house. He hasn't actually got a permanent position, but I'd like to see him make it as a striker. Very similar to Drogba, powerful and brutish at the same time as skillful and sublime.

Both will probably get loaned out this season, but they are both real prospects.

So much for the Tyson done deal then.

But i'm really confused by Blackpools targets, John stead (couldn't agree wages so fell through) and now Tyson. Don't they want to even put up a fight? Don't get me wrong - tyson would be a great player for us at this level, but he is never a premiership player.

Could we have had scouts at the Barnet game in preparation for our frienld and he stood out??

Maybe it was Dean Wilkins and he something that reminded him of Ray's playing days? (i.e. 90% of his passes were backwards or sideways.) Not that this is a bad thing mind, as they did all go to team-mates with room to play the ball forwards. Plus, he does seem to be a decent ball winner.

And looks like he could be a threat in the opposition penalty area from corners/freekicks.

Just got texts back from two Arsenal mates asking for info on Frimpong. They both said words to the effect of he'll be our best player this season if we get him, he's looking like a really class player, but neither thought he'd drop to League One.

I think that's just Premiership arrogance rather than reliable info.

he would have to go some to be classier than Morgan and there was nothing in the above clips to suggest he has Morgan's skill. Would be good to have 2 quality players in CM though and may allow Morgan to get forward more.

I know that's not a quote from the player but it's always funny to hear that a player won't drop to League One, when although he's at a premier league team he doesn't actually play in it!!!

It would also give Wenger the chance to see how the two of them combine in midfield...

Until today I hadn´t been able to put the facs that AP is waiting in the transfer market for people to become available and the fact that the PL teams must name their 25 name squad. This rule will free up a lot of players which can be quality signings for any L1 team.

I think we can expect a few quality PL signings before August 31.

James Forrest on loan from Celtic would be nice, he's playing in the Emirates Cup atm and looks quality!

couldn't agree more would be superb in League 1 season long loan would be nice, but probably won't happen but maybe one for the future! :)

Also keeping my eye on Primpong playing in Emirates Cup Arsenal vs. AC milan on SS3.

I think you are dreaming. The average PL squad player will be on twice what any body at saints is on. Bringing someone in on that sort of wage will only rock the boat. I know people keep mentioning the loan of youngsters from prem clubs, but PL clubs will only loan out players if they are going to be guarenteed games, and i am not sure saints can do this. I suspect AF or AW would prefer a youngster to be playing week in week out in a mid table div 1 team than sitting on the bench at saints. I suspect we will be looking for players that have fallen out of favour for top CC teams, or buying the best from our competitors in div 1

Nothing really in Pardew's comments on OS about bringing in new players. Anyone else starting to think that the reason there's no real speculation about us being interested in players is because we aren't after anyone and we're planning to go with what we've got?

If it is that, I wonder if it's Pardew being happy with what he's got or NC's reluctance to give any more money to spend, to a manager who could be under pressure in a few weeks, if we don't get off to a good start?

Depends on what the parent club is paying towards the wages when the player is on loan surely?

it's getting a bit worrying but I won't really get concerned until the transfer window shuts.

Pards was asked on Solent about transfers after the game.

He said Frimpong is a promising player but no truth in the rumours. Also said Antonio is a Reading player so didn't want to answer questions on him (didn't confim or deny if we had a chance of signing him). Then finally said he didn't want to talk about any possible transfers.

Have been told by a friend that works within the club that the Blackstock deal is done and that he is going to sign somewhen next week.

I'm not sure if he's ITK (he claim's to be) , and I am not sure if this is true, just thought i'd share a bit of 'gossip'.

Well considering Frimpong started against Milan yesterday, it would appear that he's not going to be joining us in the near future.

Pard's actual comments on Saints player were:

Blackmore "You said to us after the Farnborough game that you were playing a patient game on the transfer front, is that still the case with a week to go until the start of the season?"

AP - ''On the transfer front, I'm not going to say anything today. I think that protects myself and the club. But we go into next week with a good performance for 65mins today with the first team, i hope we have a full house as we will need some help next week.''

That tells me that we are in negotiations with a player who is currently under contract with another club.

Hence AP keeping schtum as not to rock the boat with aforementioned club and put the deal in doubt.

Meh,perhaps i'm reading too much into it.

In terms of transfers (or not), this week could be extremely significant for Saints. If we do not sign a couple of good cover men (CM particularly) we could be staring at another L1 season before we even start this one IMO. Replacing Hammond and Morgan with Wotton or indeed Pulis will ruin any chance of promotion - we need central midfield cover urgently - (Jeez where have I heard that before) - and while Waigo would be welcome, he ain't the answer 'cos he's a striker.

Carlisle are close to signing Manchester United reserve centre back James Chester on loan! This hopefully means that we might be getting 1 ,or hopefully 2, young players from Premiership clubs in on loan before the transfer window shuts at the end of the month!

We seriously need to strengthen our midfield options! Especially if the back up to Hammond and Schneiderlin is Wotton and Pulis! Another pacy winger or 2 would be nice too! Scott Sinclair from Chelsea maybe?
