The Scottish Airfield in Falkirk we have been linked with is going to Huddersfield! They mean business for next year.

Why? because they've signed one player? I think we have a better squad than them atm and will only strengthen ours in the forthcoming weeks with better players than Arfield, who is a good player mind.

They have yet to agree personal terms with Arfield, so it is not a done deal. Expect we will sign someone better if that lad does not fancy life in the sunny South! :p

But despite his industry in midfield and ability to pass it, the fact remains that his throw ins let him down.

Can we move on from Beattie please? :smt062

He will most likely move to a lower Premier League team (one of the promoted ones?) or a top 6 Championship team with money to pay his wages- he can still do a job at that level IMO.

Linked this morning with a loan move to Barnsley, hardly top 6 Championship is it? And they don't play in red and white stripes.

Well, at the start of this season just gone, who thought Blackpool would be a top 6 side come May?:smt020

Look at the Championship now, only a about 6/7 clubs tops could afford to pay Beatties type of wages over a few years- the rest are skint.

Scott Arfield has now signed for Huddersfield on a 3 year deal. Shame because it seems like we may have missed out on a very good player but I have faith in Pardew to find a more than capable alternative.

I suspect he might have been here in January if AP had really rated and wanted him here.

I have seen on the BBC that Southend have accepted an offer for Simon Francis from an undisclosed League one side, could it be Saints? Sorry if this has been posted already.

2 posts on the comments section, near the end of the Echo's transfer rumour round-up, suggest we're about to sign:

1) a double deal for Hal Robson-Kanu and Michail Antonio on season long loans from Reading and;

2) Chris Lines, from Bristol Rovers, with Lee Holmes going the other way in part-exchange

No idea if there's any truth to these...

Surely Reading can't keep giving Antonio one year deals. I think it will be a permanent if we get him. I get the feeling they only initiated the one year deal was to get more money from us and stop it going to a tribunal.

Sigining wise i would like

Tamika Mkawarie from Orient (centre half)

Austin or Jackson (quick striker)

Adebola (back up for Ricky)

Calderon

Shaleum Logan

one of Danns/ Mullins

Antonio

I hoped we'd get Danns & possibly Ambrose but we all expected that t*sser Warnock to come in for the better Palace players & sure enough, looks like QPR have landed Ambrose. Hope he misses out on Danns in favour to us just to stick those hypocritical words back down Warnock's throat!!

I have complete faith in Pardew & our scouting network. If we've missed out on Arfield, I will automatically assume it's cos we have better leads with better options. Gone are the days of justified cynicism & people with no clue about football running the show & over-riding football pros to massage their own ego on pointless whims & signing injured/poor quality players. Cortese seems not afraid of treading on toes but what he may allegedly lack in empathy, he seems to gain in self discipline, professionalism & certainly ambition & determination.

Digressing slightly. I hope we bring in the quality & back ups, which I am sure we will. I fully expect 2 RBs for instance. Keep the faith. Look at how the transfers have been without the luxury of pre season & preparation. I expect an old Pardew signing from previous clubs along with Surman.

Can't believe Mr Cynical himself miss spelt "cynicism". One of my many off days!

Providing Warnock steers clear of Fonte, that is my main concern.

As for Arfield he would have been here by now-probably in January- if he'd rated high enough on the Pardometer.

I don't think Fonte can move from Saints until January, 3 clubs in 12 month rule?

Yes Plausable... But steer clear of that site and especially the comments because 90% of the commenter's are off their nuts on a substance I can only dream of consuming. They were the Anti-Pardew clan and even recently, alot of them were still saying that failing to reach the playoffs was not acceptable...? And they call it a forum.

Drives me mad them lot.

Cannot see what the big deal is to sign Danns. I saw him v WBA recently and he seemed a bit light weight for our purposes. We need a Wootton Type but one who can pass and is skillfull. Danns may fullfil the last two criteria but he is certainly not the big, strong tackling midfielder we need.

TBF we also need competition for Scheniderlin.

If rumour is to be believed (which it quite often is on here), Schneiderlin is off after impressing some French scouts in the recent U21 tournament. Not naming any names, but the club begins with B and ends in X. I must stress that this is A RUMOUR, and nothing more officially at this point in time.

So, if MS is off, it will leave us seriously short in the centre midfield department. Hammond and Wotton would be our only recognised central midfielders. We need at least 4 CMs in the squad imo, and I don't think Wotton is up to scratch either. Without MS's creativity in midfield, we didn't look anything like a L1 title-challenging team, so we need somebody who can orchestrate from the middle of the park, preferably somebody with a bit of experience. We also need a tough tackling ball winner. I would've suggested Gavin McCann, but he's just signed for Peterborough.

I think a lot of our transfer dealings will depend on how Pardew wants to shape the team next season and the season after when we will hopefully be in the Championship.

I think his long term plan is 4-5-1 so I wouldn't be suprised to see an attacking midfielder like Danns bought in as well as another player who likes to pass the ball out from the back like Stock. Those two as well as Hammond, Schneiderlin and Puncheon would give us a very strong central midfield 3 rotation if we are going to play 4-5-1.

I don't think it's any coincedence that we where linked with Stock and Danns so strongly in January. If we aren't still looking at them now we will be looking at players who play similar midfield roles.

I really can't see us signing the hard tackling midfield brute some of you want, I think Hammond and to an extent Schneiderlin do that job well enough.

Because there may well be other clubs in the mix too.

What does that have to do with saying... "Not naming any names, but the club begins with B and ends in X"?

You might aswell say "Bordeaux may be interested along with others" rather than playing word games. :D ;)

Has George Boyd been mentioned by anyone? I thought he'd moved to Forest, but that was only a loan at the time.

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11688_6150919,00.html

Can't see us getting him with all that lot after him, but I can remember him being a hell of a player at this level.

Forest paid £400,000 for the half season loan. This fella won't come cheap.
