The Official Summer Transfers and HCDAJFU Thread

Why do you say that, as it's not really true. All moneys spent on Saints, will be as a result of the revenue module of the club. Our owner is rich, the club is not. Neither are we poor or in debt, but I wish people would stop assuming that ML is going to be dipping into his pocket every five minutes.

On the contrary, I think he is.

How do you think we're financing a major development of the training ground? That's not going to be paid for out of our revenue which probably barely covers our costs. We could finance it through debt but Cortese has already said Markus would be taking care of it.

He's already put his hand in his pocket to the tune of at least £12-15m (reportedly). He knows that if that £12-15m is ever going to be worth c.£100m he will probably have to spend a bit more. He bought a business with no cash assets and was willing to spend £1m on his first major transfer.

If Saints became a Prem team with a first class infrastructure and debt free we would be worth somewhere around the £100m mark (assuming there is a buyer). I think it is naive in the extreme to think Liebherr wants to run a modest self-financing business; all the signs are that he wants to do whatever is necessary to grow the business, but within the parameters of being debt-free and not overly extravagant.

Maybe, maybe not, just commenting on what was said by NC when they took over. I think the highlighted part is pertinant. We are debt free, therefore, we can indulge ourselves a little more that most clubs, even some in the premier. However, paying out 1.5M for players from that league, and the wages that go with it, are IMHO, a little bit fanciful, I stand to being correct, and the summers dealings will say a lot methinks. I'd prepare for a few free's and loans though;)

How has he done **** all since leaving us?

He had an ok full season for everton, then an excellent season for sheff utd in the CCC, then an excellent start at stoke. This last season has been his only really poor one, and we're a league 1 club.

His arrogant **** tag is largely ********. He loved it here and was a great player for us. He's got a good work rate too. He's a confidence player so will seem arrogant when he's on form. But outside of football I've met him a few times and he's seemed like a nice guy, and far from stupid. I also saw some drunk guy come up to him and shout something then try to start a fight out of nowhere. Headline a day or two later says Beattie involved in bar fight. Not sure what you're supposed to do about situations like that.

Agreed

I heard a few comments that implied he was a decent bloke too ... at least by footballers' standards!

Not too convinced by reports from somewho knows someone who .... so am not expecting him to sign. If he did you'd have to say it was a bit of a coup, but not totally out of the question. He's just turned 32 so getting on a bit but still got a few years in him. He's been a top player -- even top scorer in the premiership and an international, but his star has waned.

He'll be looking for big wages for his last 2 or 3 years, but his fitness hasn't been great lately and his game depends on it, so he may not get that. Ironically given he is a striker, I remember him running down the right wing and getting in many good crosses in his time here.

So overall, not likely, but damn good news if there's anything in it.

How long has he left on his Stoke contract is probably the main question? If a fair time, why would he move unless for more wages that we ought to be paying? If soon to run out, then maybe.

Mind you, I think his wife comes from round here and may be homesick?

K.

I think there is another Charlie Austin waiting to be snapped up - Oxford United's James Constable - Really physical and fast striker - 26 goals in the Blue SQ Prem and scored and captained at Wembley yesterday

He's already played in the football league and failed miserably.

Uh, because TBH he has, he done sod all at Everton, in 3 seasons he played 80 times and scored a grand total of 15 goals and looked pretty average. He then went on to have a single decent season for Sheff Utd and has since failed to keep some pretty average strikers out of Stokes front line.

Add this to the fact that he only really had one and a half decent seasons for us, and other than that looked pretty average, his touch is terrible and he has an average work rate. Ormerod made most of his goals.

He has only scored 130 goals in 430 appearances

I don't know about the bar fight but have met him more than once and can tell you he is an up himself, arrogant C*nt, backed up by people i know that used to be involved a lot closer to saints then i have ever been.

Also was speaking with Bridge in Jacks one night, we had a drink and he asked if any of us had a spare ciggy, Beattie waddled over and said, and i qoute 'Why are you talking to these Tw*ts for, come and speak to someone that actually means something'

Grade A ****

Thats my opinion anyways, not saying he wouldn't come across as a coup as suggested, but we could do MUCH better with the money, and TBH, Lambert is a better all round player IMO, although i agree, unproven in top level.

Arfield on his way to Udders? OK with me. You can't miss what you never had.

FC, happy to go with your recommendation re this Oxford lad.

Falkirk fans don't actually rate this lad tbh, at the end of the day (and i don't want this to come across as arrogant) but if we wanted him, we'd have got him.

Only been released because he turned down a contract extension. Back off to Europe IMO!!

The article "Koren surprised by exit" begs to differ...

He'd be an amazing signing. Would be even better than the Fonte signing IMO for a statement of intent. (Wages would be up a level to what we're paying anyone else though).

Would imagine Koren turned down the contract in order to get more games, as he doesn't feel he'll play enough in the premiership. Think he'll either go abroad or perhaps to one of the newly relegated teams in the Championship. We'd have to get in there first with a too good to turn down offer and he'd have to be willing to drop down a league for a season, so I think it's pretty unlikely he'd come here.

don't think he did, the article states that the baggies decided not to offer him a 12 month extention i think.

i agree with everyone else - he'd be one heck of a statement signing in the exact position we need one. Another player that could go the journey with us...as AP likes to say.

James Harper released by Sheffield United, worth a punt? Pardew connections, though at 29 possibly a little old.

great shout, was a beast for reading in their record breaking season and i believe he was initially signed by Pards?

I think the interesting thing here is that Pardew is on record as saying he wants to build a team that can go through the CCC. Say what you like, but players like Koran and Beattie would certainly fit that model. I think we should prepare ourselves for a couple of "marquee" signings - biggish names who will see us promoted and into the CCC.

If we're looking for big names, I don't think we should pass up on Jay Emmanuel-Thomas.

Was talking to my reading supporting mate on this, i don't mean to be an MLG on this but he was actually released by reading i believe, he was on loan at Sheffield (thats what he said anyways) - My bad, he transfered in January til the end of the season, source - Wiki

He doesn't think he is much better than we have already, i was of the opinion he was pretty good but he seems to think he isn't a tackler but is a leader.

Make of that as you will, TBH, if he came here i would actually be quite impressed, mates opinion not withstanding.

I honestly think that this year we are in an opinion to get some of the talented freebies, unlike other seasons when we watched the decent free players get snapped up by other teams.

-------------Schmeichel--------------

Finnan---Kisnorbo---Sh1ttu---Quedrue

-----------Koren----McCann----------

Elliott------------------------Lansbury

----------Beattie----McLean----------

Picked from the more realistic suggestions on the thread, this team would rip up L1! Now Pards and Cortest know where to start...

Beatts up front on his own with Xavi in the hole I reckon.

Haven't seen all the game tonight, but Nicky Bailey at Charlton has really impressed me tonight. Sits back, dictates play. Long/short passes to feet with either foot, breaks into the box, and not afraid to strike from distance.

(I'm probably jinxing him, because he'll probably miss a penalty or something before it's over, but he looks a top player)

Lottery numbers please! :p

Have to agree though, I'd love to see Bailey here. He's a quality midfielder and would do a job in the CCC too.

I won't.

It should be "a" not "an" - MLG doesn't start with a vowel. ;) :D

You have.

MLG is an acronym that is spelled out emm ell gee, so it begins with a consonant that has a vowel sounding at the beginning - emm. Because of that, it is an emm ell gee, not a emm ell gee.

Ha! I so knew that would happen! Was thinking the same about him in the CCC. Penalty aside, thought he was outstanding tonight.

Who knows, maybe it's more likley now they've missed out on promotion. Along with Harper, he's another ex-Pardew signing.
