New Away Supporters Guide

Ladies and Gentlemen...

I need your help...

On June 17th this year a new away fans guide will launch which promises to be the most comprehensive guide for following your team away next season.

AwaySupporters will concentrate on the things that matter when planning your away trip. Where to eat and drink, any decent places to visit nearby, you will be able to book a hotel online near the stadium you are staying and obviously the most important part of your trip... where does the best curry, where are the strip-clubs and casinos located and what are the best night-clubs in town.

You can also book your train tickets directly online so it's a one stop shop...

This is a personal project and I could really do with the help of other fans to get the site done in time for June 17th ( which is when the 2010/2011 season fixtures come out )

What I could do with from supporters is any help, such as team moderators ( basically ensuring your clubs page is up to date and accurate ) , news contributors, pictures for the galleries and reviews of grounds you may have visited.

There will be benefits for all contributors which I will work out over the next few days, some of which will include commission for any hotels booked on your teams page for any team moderators...

If you would like any further information then please email info@awaysupporters.co.uk

Thanks

Stu

I am also willing to pay £5 per team page for any budding journalists or writers for each team page text which they submit ( I will supply the information needed ). I know it's not alot of money but it's better than doing surveys and fun... and there will be more benefits in the future.

Well, this is a Saints site, so surely you're only going to find people willing to do the "Saints pages".....which you could do? No?

Oh.... yes, I forgot that Saints fans never visit other grounds.

And so far I have done 30 reviews... just a quick flit through google, it's easy to research any ground in the country, and change the wording to something more informative and amusing... if you know what I mean.

Hasn't footballgroundguide existed for years for this purpose? Does this offer anything new?

Yes...

It is not about how much legroom there is, how much the Bovril costs and where the nearest CAMRA pub is, it's directed to the younger generation.

Fans will be able to upload pictures into each teams gallery... so you get a proper feel for the away stands and what they are like.

It will tell you where the best pubs are to drink in ( not the best ones for a nice pint of bitter ) ... as in the ones with the best away atmosphere.

It will tell you where to stay if you are staying overnight, where the strip clubs are, the casino's, it will tell you what the town is like in the evenings.

It will review nearby towns for weekenders.

All in all, it will be much more of a 'lads' site... concentrating on the beers and the parteh time as opposed to the stadium itself, which let's face it... how many of us give a toss about how much legroom there is?

It will also be alot easier to navigate around that Football Ground guide.

You're going to be paying out this money Stu. Where does it come from?

Is it your money but you just haven't been paid it yet?

Don't do a Skate job mate!

Otherwise, Good Luck.

What do you mean?!

If you mean who is going to be paying out the money for people who edited?

The £5 per team page will come directly from me... via Paypal. I have 60 team pages left to do but I need people to email info@awaysupporters.co.uk if they would like to get involved and I will tell them the team pages I have left to do.

As for the commision, it's not set in stone but I will look at that for page moderators, but as Scott said, I don't really need one for Southampton.

I can track advertising revenue for each page, so I might look at commisioning team moderators for marketing the site.

I was just wondering where the money was coming from for you to pay out and I made a tongue in cheek reference to our Fishy Fiends. I do realise that you may be ambitious but obviously not as stupid or criminal as them!

Thanks anyway for explaining.

Ahhh ok... well it will be coming straight from my sky rocket!

The site is owned by me and me only... so people can trust me...

But you are no fool and neither a bottomless money pit.

There is no such thing as a free lunch and I guess your entrepreneurial skills have identified a cash rich stream of income. Again, good luck with it.

So your looking for places for lager drinkers then?

It's only £300 to be fair. :-)

But yes, I expect the website to generate more than that in the long-term! :-)

Yes, the profile I am targeting is....

Working Class

Lager Drinkers

Ages 16-40

Non-shirt wearers

Single / Unhappily married

Both of them will be well happy you are making a website for them then!

Would be more than happy to write some team pages. Did every away game last year and most this year and I'm an English student so should be able to write coherently' date=' I hope.[/quote']

Think you've just disqualified yourself there. Don't mention students around Stu.

Sounds like a good idea, hope it all goes well. Go to plenty of away games but really don't have time to help but I'll be passing the URL on to all my football supporting friends when you're finished.

The footballgroundguide site is decent but it seems to me alot of the pages just read exactly the same and it all becomes quite boring, will be good to see a site which is built around supporters pub, trains and nightlife. Will help keep it fresh and different with several different writes for each stadium page.

Good luck.

Alot of pubs don't let you in if your topless without a shirt.

Sounds like you should just go to the many police designated away pubs near the ground where you can drink fosters/carling **** etc and get a police escort to the away end of the ground.

I only miss out on age and lager btw :-)

just taken a look at the site...

...

..

..

Stu, some friendly advice. Lose the adverts. You arent going to get enough traffic for a few months to make it worthwhile, and quite frankly at this stage you're just going to put people off.

If you want to pull in users, make it advert free and then get in a few later, once plenty are attracted to the service.

I thought you worked in online marketing once?

The adverts will go once it is launched... infact that is just a holding site... with another one being built in the background so doesn't look anything like the site will look like.

But yes, good idea. The adverts should go.

I did indeed do online marketing and digital advertising once... but with an established site... so I guess kind of different.

That's a rubbish looking site - probably worse than that other one you refer to.

People just want to know how to get to the stadium - info they can get from any official site.

Good luck and all that.

As I just said to Boj, that's not the site, the site is being built in the background... that is just a holding page.

And if you can find an official website which details where all the strip-bars, proper boozers away from the stadium, casino's etc are, let me know.

People do not just want to know how to get to the stadium... not everyone is like you and drives straight to the ground and home again. The vast majority of fans arrive by train and make a day of it drinking, and alot make a night of it too.

If you are going straight to the ground and back you would use footballgroundguide.

Will it be written really, really badly?

A little bit out of order Robsk. Stu is using his entrepreneurial skills and has come up with a great idea and you've just been rude. It won't be badly written as I will be writing quite a few of the pages as me and Stu have decided to work together on this project. Maybe you should think about what you're doing to help away fans have a proper lads weekend away, rather than just belittling other peoples efforts.

Red-Light districts is a possibility but I need to look into the legalities of that.

I've looked into the legalities, Stu, and it wouldn't be a problem. We wouldn't be seen to be advertising them as we could just state that we were showing the places to avoid. The same would go for dogging spots, gay saunas, public toilets used for cottaging, etc. If you have a list of the best ones of these in each area you've visited I could add in some from the places I've visited and we could have a pretty comprehensive list then.
