Gigersaint Posted 28 April, 2010 Share Posted 28 April, 2010 Wondered if anyone knows why the HD offering from the BBC is so poor and why BBC1 especially still does not have its own dedicated HD Channel for the full programme line up even if it was upscaled as the majority of C4 and ITV HD are? Even Luxe and Sci Fi offer full HD and upscaled programmes so why can't the BBC, surely these channels don't have the budget BBC do? I thought, maybe in ignorance, that the BBC were one of the worlds best funded broadcasters but it appears not, why do they seem to be far behind their competitors given the amount of money they recieve from licence payers? It can't be down to advertising alone on other channels as the BBC still do enough of that anyway no matter how discreet they try to be about it. Jez Posted 29 April, 2010 Share Posted 29 April, 2010 I keep thinking this too whenever I am forced to watch Eastenders by the other half on non HD BBC in between watching Emmerdale and Coronation on ITV HD!

pedg Posted 30 April, 2010 Share Posted 30 April, 2010 Because it would then either not show HD versions of stuff that is on other channels (e.g. Dr Who Confidential on BBC3 and HD) or would have to have HD versions for all its channels. Sky can get away with many HD channels because of the bandwidth on satellite but as its been tricky to squeeze room for a few terrestrial HD channels doubt the other broadcasters would like HD version of BBC1 - 4 taking them all up. Al de Man Posted 6 May, 2010 Share Posted 6 May, 2010 How can you say that when the BBC HD channel gave me my 15 minutes of fame?
JonnyLove Posted 6 May, 2010 Share Posted 6 May, 2010 BBC HD only show programs that are filmed in HD. Not all of their shows are filmed in HD so they don't show them. Basically there is no benefit to broadcast programs on HD if they are not in HD.
