Arizona Posted 27 April, 2010 Share Posted 27 April, 2010 Looked like a fish up a tree in the few games I saw him play last season. Even compared to the likes of James, Wotton, Gillett, Euell and BWP he looked poor. Certainly wouldn't get in ahead of Barnard, Connolly or Waigo unless he has improved massively. Saint_clark Posted 27 April, 2010 Share Posted 27 April, 2010 Obviously hasn't impressed Pardew. Might as well move him on and let him get on with his career. Obviously has some finishing ability, his goal tallies in youth and reserve leagues over the last 3-4 years prove that, so could probably do well in the conference. dubai_phil Posted 28 April, 2010 Share Posted 28 April, 2010 If he was rated to make the grade I would have thought we would see him on the bench inn the last couple of games. But, reading the original OS article about the appointment of Les Read, there were some comments about changing the Academy set up so that the youngsters had better "Personal Life Management skills"... Which indicated to me that some of the youngsters may have attitude issues with regard to their preparation etc - ie maybe party too much. No evidence, and not the exact words, just how the article read to me.

Huntingdon Posted 28 April, 2010 Share Posted 28 April, 2010 Football is all about opinions White hasn't figured at all under Pards, which suggests he doesn't think he's ready, or simply isn't good enough A season long loan in League 2 would give him a chance to shine & give Pardew a better idea of whether he's got a chance to make the grade

No evidence, and not the exact words, just how the article read to me. Old academy players were/are always out getting battered Regularly see Dyer, Gillet, Craine, Best, Blackstock, McGoldrick, and Paterson & Lancashire out drinking (even though most of them have moved on, go into 90 degrees on a Sunday and you’re bound to run into one of them!) Craine was an absolute embarrassment the times I’ve seen him out (normally on a Sunday) stumbling around acting like he owned the place chatting up every girl in there. It’s no wonder he hasn’t fulfilled his potential!! It’s also no surprise that there were always rumours\accusations about them in the papers
JibMcdo Posted 28 April, 2010 Share Posted 28 April, 2010 I wish! I do take an interest in his career because he is a neighbour. Fair doos I remember he had some good reviews when he started away at Derby but then had a shocker of a half at home to Blackpool and wasn't really seen since. That's what can happen when youngsters are thrown in at the deep end. Next season is a big season for Pardew and the club and I'm sure they aren't going to be blooding in new youngsters too often. I do think, if he is scoring every week for the U18s and reserves, that he should be given some sort of chance to prove himself though and he might get that in pre-season friendlies and cup competitions next year if we are going to focus 100% on the league. Just needs to be patient until we are out of this league and building in the Championship I think. That's when Pards might try and get some academy players to step up into the squad. Appy Posted 28 April, 2010 Share Posted 28 April, 2010 He will end up at a lower league 2 club i expect. Never going to make the grade here with the depth and quality we have in attack.

dubai_phil Posted 28 April, 2010 Share Posted 28 April, 2010 OK I have found the link. JlT wasn't accusing Jamie of being on eof the problems with Lifestyle types, simply that it had been identified by Matt Crocker in the penultimate paragraph in this OS piece http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2025768,00.html Again, it harks back to the original "SCW" job specification, we need to have a formalised structure for managing the kids from when they graduate from the Acadmey until they become regular first team players. The whole issue of helping them to stop being kids and becoming mature players in their prime needs managing better. The reserves don't seem to hack it, planned spells out on loan (it worked for Beckham) seem to be the way, but again while they are there they need to be managed for the long term not only for the match day. McLaggon, White and Gobern need to be developed, they aren't consistent or experienced enough for our first team yet, look at how Antonio developed this season, is it better to send them on structured "outsourcing" to gain that experience or should we drop Barnard or Connelly to get them playing time? Easy answer really, keep them but manage their development.

madruss Posted 28 April, 2010 Share Posted 28 April, 2010 Didn't he go out on loan to Eastleigh earlier in the season? You'd have thought he'd have scored a shed load of goals at that level if he was to stand a chance of making it with Saints. I'm guessing he didn't do too well there or we'd have read about it on the OS (historically they only seem to report on our players out on loan when they do well!) Baird of the land Posted 28 April, 2010 Share Posted 28 April, 2010 The injury he got last year really didn't help him. I'd like to see him given another year as from what i've seen of him he's a naturally gifted finisher.
martel Posted 28 April, 2010 Share Posted 28 April, 2010 I wish! I do take an interest in his career because he is a neighbour. His biological Father is a very good friend of mine, who I have known since about 1978, Peter actually lived here in Fort Lauderdale, but is now in Italy; we often talk about Jamies career and obviously both feel he deserves another season after his injuries, to show AP what he can really do, I honestly believe that he will be a real asset to Saints in the medium term. benjii Posted 28 April, 2010 Share Posted 28 April, 2010 I'm sure if he is considered good enough he'll get a chance in the team. If he is considered not good enough yet but with potential he might get on the bench a few times (Oxlade-Chamberlain, McNish etc) or loaned out. If he is considered not good enough we'll get rid. It's harsh but that's the way of the world. I don't think you can take too much from performances in the reserves as unfortunately we play against a lot of dross in the reserve leagues now. doddisalegend Posted 28 April, 2010 Share Posted 28 April, 2010 Reading an Article on the BBC about Hoddles football Academy it appears 80-85% of club academy players don't make it into the first team. Considering how strong our team has become at level we are playing right now. Any of our youth players are going to have to be very good to get in the team. We need good players in their prime to get us out of league one so I can't see to many youngesters getting the chance a shame but thats the way it is right now. JackFrost Posted 30 April, 2010 Share Posted 30 April, 2010 (edited) The kid simply isn't good enough, he gets muscled off the ball too easily and doesn't possess a great 'presence'. I've seen him play a few times and one occasion summed him up perfectly. A few years back in a reserves game, the opposition winger was shouldering him off the ball and out muscling him all night and White couldn't get going at all Their wingers then swapped sides and 5 mins later White got subbed for Alex Ostlund. The winger tried the same thing with Ostlund and ended up flying 6 feet through the air horizontally and landing on his back I do miss AO, shame his body let him down forcing him into retirement at just 31. I'd have welcomed him back any day. May have lacked in talent but made up for it by hard work, tough tackling and being as strong as an ox. Will be in rehab for up to 9 months so being released from his contract in June. Hopefully will get some rehab done at Saints like Craig Richards did a few years ago when he got a serious injury a few weeks before his contract was up.
