david in sweden Posted 28 April, 2010 Posted 28 April, 2010 Like that's difficult to work out. I'm with Alpine on this one ...:smt024 well you may be better than the TV pundits, but just watch out for those " dubious offside/ penalty decisions " and "disallowed goals " that are really OK, and which would upset the balance of power.:smt077 -if they were allowed. Why do you think that FIFA / UEFA continue to oppose the use of cameras when many other sports - even cricket - have accepted it years ago. When every other business, organisation and even transport authority is willing to put in CCTV to monitor situations, we still rely on the eyesight of slow-moving, sometimes biased refs. who are 20 meters behind the play, when a TV camera can highlight a nudge in the ribs or a shirt tug from 100 meters away.:mad:and yet are ignored. I'm fed up with watching TV matches where I see one thing happen .(.in close-up or umpteen replays) and yet the ref. has his own Hollywood script. Moonlanding ? .yes, its all a conspiracy.
Alain Perrin Posted 28 April, 2010 Posted 28 April, 2010 To suggest their is some referee conspiracy to do Southampton down is laughable at best. There are good referees and bad referees and they get assessed like you wouldn't believe to try and moderate them to a consistent enforcement of the laws. But they're human and will be standing in the wrong place, looking in the wrong direction or make the wrong marginal call. It happens, suck it up. We've had marginal calls / bad decisions made in our favour, but it's natural that we wouldn't remember them as much as the decisions that rile us.
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 28 April, 2010 Posted 28 April, 2010 I think.... you may find Frisk was Swedish. (to avoid everyone getting called Svensson or Johansson many Swedes change their family name, and FRISK mean " to be fit, or healthy) " Anyway, he was a bit controversial and made a few " Fan-Angering" (wrong decisions) in his time, but I think ? he retired a few years ago after he refereed a match ...in Italy... and in the crowd riot afterwards he was hit by a bottle or a coin ..or something (memory not clear on the precise details). Being a security-minded Swede he decided to pack it in. Good riddance, I say ! He retired after receiving death threats from English fans after a England match I think.
bender Posted 28 April, 2010 Posted 28 April, 2010 The easiest solution for the Football League would be to promote the two teams (out of the existing 3rd to 6th place teams) that reach the playoff final I'd have thought....(?) and the play off final becomes a friendly ??

I suspect the clamour for TV replays is all whipped up by...the TV companies. Oooh. I wonder why. FIFA/UEFA/the FA/The Premier League might not be keen to cede most of their power to Sky and have to pay for the privilege. In cricket the replay system has led to appeals, which has led to the umpire losing authority and respect. And bad/wrong decisions are still made.

A mate of mine is on Dorset FA and he was speaking to the assessor of the ref for Oldham game the other day, he said he'd given the ref the lowest possible mark for his performance (without the ref having to face a discinlinary hearing) The referee complained and argued he'd had a good game. In short there is no conspiracy, just poor refs, and if assessors are up to scratch the poor performances will get noted and the refs concerned will struggle to stay on the approved list.
ericofarabia Posted 28 April, 2010 Posted 28 April, 2010 The obvious solution to the situation would be for only 2 teams to be relegated from The Prem with Skatesmuff the team who avoid the drop. It's the least those nasty men and woman at The PL and FL and FA and Law Courts and HMRS could do as a way of apologising to those plucky hard done by fishy players and brilliant fans. Stand by for a press conference from Avram Grunt and Android any minute now stating their case. :smt043
ART Posted 28 April, 2010 Posted 28 April, 2010 As a Saints supporter I just can't accept the statement today by the Sheffield Chairman that Palace should be relegated just for going into Administration. Haven't Palace been punished enough despite the odious statement they put out about Saints last year? http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/apr/28/crystal-palace-sheffield-wednesday-relegation

I actually thought that the idea of having two linesmen on the bye-lines which they have trialed in the Europa Cup competition is a good idea and can assist the ref with any off the ball incidences, corners etc. I agree that FIFA/UEFA are extremely corrupt. The amount of allegations regarding World Cup ticket fixing etc against Blatter and his fellow cronie Jack Warner and other senior FIFA officials, all seem to have credence. Whenever there is an official investigation, it all gets hushed up and swept under the carpet. Combined with the continual cop out of FIFA not punishing teams/players for blatant cheating (eg Henry's handball with both France and the player escaping punishment) is tarnishing the modern game and sending out the wrong message. The problem is that FIFA is not answerable to anyone.

He was also injured in a game between Roma and Dynamo Kiev. Roma were 1-0 down and Frisk sent off one of their players, Mexes I think, just before half time. As he was walking off, a fan hit him in the head with a coin. The game was abandoned, Kiev were later given a 3-0 win and Roma had to play their remaining games behind closed doors.

Nah, I'd rather have Palace down. For a start it's a much nearer away game. Secondly I think they will be in even more of a mess with regards to money and having to sell players.

I'd like to see Walton's assessment for the Leeds match. Straight back to some nice high profile matches in the weeks that followed. Surprise surprise. His reward for following orders? Surely not, how absurd! Everything's as straight as a die in the English game isn't it. There are a few Premiership managers of the less fashionable teams who would not agree, especially when they're playing Man U, Chelsea et al.
Junction 9 Posted 29 April, 2010 Posted 29 April, 2010 You'd think FIFA would want Barcelona in the European cup final wouldn't you? Strange how that last goal of theirs was disallowed.
Window Cleaner Posted 29 April, 2010 Posted 29 April, 2010 You'd think FIFA would want Barcelona in the European cup final wouldn't you? Strange how that last goal of theirs was disallowed. why? they won last year didn't they? UEFA likes to spread it around a bit, hence no UK clubs in the semis this year, thus showing the whole wide world that debt doesn't buy the Champions League..oh did M Platini already say that? see he was right.;)
Tamesaint Posted 29 April, 2010 Posted 29 April, 2010 The ref against Oldham was poor. Peter Walton against Leeds was shocking. However there have also been some poor refs this season from whom we have benefited. Anyone remember the home game against Yeovil ?? That ref gave us 2 pens both of which Rickie converted to give us our first League visctory of the season. The first pen was dodgy but the second was just a joke. The supposed handball happened in front of me and when the ref blew I had no idea what offence had been committed. I am sure that an old cliche like "luck always evens itself out over the course of a season" is a cliche because it so often appears to be true!!

TijuanaTim Posted 30 April, 2010 Posted 30 April, 2010 Will 3 teams from league 1 then get automatic promotion and then an extra place made available in the play-offs?? Is there still hope for us!? SSN reporting this morning that palace will shut down within 3-4 weeks as they cannot afford to stay in business over the summer. Help them out by buying Ambrose
The Godfather Posted 30 April, 2010 Posted 30 April, 2010 Most of Palace's players will end up back with Neil Warnock at QPR. Danns, Ambrose, plus a few of their good youngsters.
hughieslastminutegoal Posted 30 April, 2010 Posted 30 April, 2010 Pardon my manners, but you're off your trolley. No more than those who still appear to believe that the most effective way to ensure the rubbing out of an ex-princess is to shine a bright light into her driver's eyes in an illuminated tunnel..... seems like the majority are off their collective trollies. Flyer Posted 30 April, 2010 Posted 30 April, 2010 Just read on their board Saints put in derisory bids of 100-200k for players like Danns, Ambrose, Clyne etc and of course they were turned down. Youd have thought Saints would have been a bit more sympathetic with regards to scavenging.
SaintNeil90 Posted 30 April, 2010 Posted 30 April, 2010 I dont think I want Danns after his outburst in the West Brom game... not much of a temper and now means he misses a very important relegation fixture. Much rather have Ambrose

Not saying you're wrong but that doesn't really tie in with the £1million+ fee that we're supposed to have payed for Fonte. Unless we simply didn't want them that badly.
