IamLeGod Posted 23 April, 2010 Share Posted 23 April, 2010 Anyone else noticed, we have only had one manager survive 18 months since Strachan left, in 2004. And that was George Burley, and ok granted he made the play-offs (just), he was hardly a resounding success. Personally, Im glad to managerial merry-go-round seems to have come to a halt (for now at least), and the man in the driving seat is arguably the best manager we have had since Strachan. Onwards and upwards! COYS!

Glasgow_Saint Posted 23 April, 2010 Share Posted 23 April, 2010 We didn't have a poor run after Xmas. We've had top two form since October. FACT. From December 19th to Feb 23rd we played 9 league games and won only 3! Thats a poor run in my book. You clearly have lower expectations and/or definition of poor. Legod Third Coming Posted 23 April, 2010 Share Posted 23 April, 2010 From December 19th to Feb 23rd we played 9 league games and won only 3! Thats a poor run in my book. You clearly have lower expectations and/or definition of poor. Of those nine games, eight were away from home to teams who also beat or drew with the other teams in the promotion hunt... Have a look at the results. How did Millwall do at Wycombe and Brentford? That run is irrelevant - because we had 'poorer' results then, but have had much better results at other times, like the last six. The point is, since the end of October our form is good enough for promotion.
Legod Third Coming Posted 23 April, 2010 Share Posted 23 April, 2010 But just on goal difference;) Norwich are better 71 from 33 and Millwall are exactly the same 68/33 but we have about +5 on GD both started pretty badly as well but they didn't have the -10 points. However they will both finish more than 10 points above us as well. I'm sick of explaining this to the hard of thinking, but in the spirit of humand kindness... Resurrected from near death. No preseason. Squad with all the depth of Katie Price. Rebuilding job. Bedding in. End of September - won one game. Since, Promotion form. (oh and the first trophy for 34 years). Simples. I fail to see why so many cannot get their heads around this ! Our pre season was the first four or five League games this season, thats what ultimately cost us....and that is nobodys fault....well, nobody that is at the club now anyway

Still, the above is extremely unlikely since we are the FOURTH richest club in England and Tenth highest spenders in the last transfer window! sadoldgit Posted 23 April, 2010 Share Posted 23 April, 2010 Bloody hell, best season in years, won a trophy, won matches, scored lots of goals yet we are STILL talking about at what point Pardew's future should be called into question. Honestly, why? IF we do not well next season then it is a no brainer that discussions will be had....but why even go there now??? Haven't you lot had enough of the managerial merry go round? Professor Posted 23 April, 2010 Share Posted 23 April, 2010 Why should Glasgow Saint be the only one to offer to help Pardew out with tactics, training etc?. There are loads of experts on here and in the ground who all know as much if not more about football than Pardew. We could do team selection by committee. captainchris Posted 23 April, 2010 Share Posted 23 April, 2010 Discount the minus 10 and the 1st ten games and AP has done a grand job this season. I was sceptical during our poor run after xmas but will now back him 100% I may email him and offer my support (tactics, training, players diet ect) does anyone have his email? Alan.pardew@yahoo.com - keep it to your self - it's a secret! AP has tactics all boxed off - literally box to box - the centre circle is only used for kick offs ..... Hedgehog Posted 23 April, 2010 Share Posted 23 April, 2010 FFS lets sack Chris Nichol (sorry AP) and get Ian Branfoot in as manager as quick as possible, sell Alan Shearer (sorry Ricky L) get Kerry and Dixon in, who are going to score more than Shearer (Lambert), and then let the rot set in again!! Pardew has done a great job this year, first season in many since Alan Ball and Matty at his prime, since I have witnessed and enjoyed watching Saints. Long may AP be given a chance. dannysfc Posted 23 April, 2010 Share Posted 23 April, 2010 Funnily enough I bumped into AP himself when I was walking to work in Winchester today which was Good n I also don't think that he will leave Saints for at least another season but we will see ! Saint in Paradise Posted 24 April, 2010 Share Posted 24 April, 2010 Re this 18 month timescale thing what would you think IF we got promoted this year but by Christmas we were in the lower half of the Championship ? Would you rather be at the top of L1 or near the bottom of the Championship and what would the owners think ?

sadoldgit Posted 24 April, 2010 Share Posted 24 April, 2010 It is not unreasonable for Pardew to be judged on his progress after 18 months. What is unreasonable to judge him after every loss or draw. Like every team in football, we have poor results. It is how we perform over the whole season that is important, not the odd dropped point. It is hard to fathom how there were threads and posts about Pardew's future the week after winning a cup! The Echo website has people on it who want Pardew out and there are obviosuly people on here who wil call for his had if we have a slump next season, despiate the fact that even the best teams/managers have shown that happens. He is saying all the right things, it is the shame the club aren't saying the same.

ten hours ahead Posted 25 April, 2010 Share Posted 25 April, 2010 I had my Blackpool mate over today, ANZAC day, and he was singing 'glad all over' as they are looking good for a play off spot (unlike us). Anyway it reminded me of seeing the Saints at Selhurst Park back in the 70s. We went on 'you tube' and there is a clip of the Palace team in 1990 and guess who is there singing in the front row? Have a look on 'you tube' at "glad all over Crystal Palace". May be a tribute for our manager?
