Lambert without a doubt but the player I have enjoyed watching most this season is Jaidi.

I have absolutely loved the fact that finally we have had someone who has scared the #### out of an opposing striker something not done since Svennson in the Prem.

Rather than the namby pamby types we have had.

I think Harding pushes Lambert really close. Only the Bristol Rovers game was a poor one for him, the rest I marked him 8 out of 10. I certainly don't think you can say Lambert was as consistent, but then again its easier for defenders to be consistent than it is attackers.

1. Lambert

2. Harding

3. Jaidi

4. Fonte

5. Lallana

6. Kelvin

7. Morgan

8. Hammond

9. Antonio

10. Waigo

11. Connelly

Lambert is my player of the season, he's been faultless really.

Harding and Jaidi are probably two of the best signings we've made in years in terms of value.

Lallana and Schneiderlin have been our most improved players.

I'd say my player of the year is Lambert and if there was a young player of the year I'd go for Schneiderlin.

Posted

1 lambert

2 Kelvin

3 Harding

but like other posters have said, Morgan, Lallana and Fonte would walk this competition if they played for any other club!

Posted

Tommy Forecast deserves a mention................

and Olly Lancashire for his performances at Grimsby

Posted

1. Lambert. Not even a doubt there.

2. Fonte - because we were pants before he arrived.

3. Schneiderlin - Has been quality in a league we all thought he would struggle with and i think he's surprised alot of people.

Possibly Hammond, Lallana, Jaidi, james, Davis and Bart could all be in there 2. All added something this season when most needed or looked solid consistently.

Posted

For me it would be one of...

a. Lambert - without his goals we would be toast.

b. Fonte - irrespective of his time in the squad, he has transformed the defence.

c. Davis - without out his spectacular (in some cases world-class) saves, we would be toast.

I couldn't put a fag paper between these three guys and would award all three jointly. Close follow-ups would be...

a. Lallana - most improved player and prospect from the Academy.

b. Harding - great consistency and rugged performance throughout the campaign

c. Antonio - incredible season given his meterioric rise from non-league to scoring in a cup final at Wembley....school-boy dream stuff to inspire the youngsters.

Am I the only one surprised at the number of mentions Davis gets. He has been decent when called upon, but I'd say he has been a spectator in a lot of matches. Charlton was the only match I can think of with him saving our arses recently.

Yeovil

Oldham

Brentford

etc etc

You're right, oftentimes he is a mere spectator, but there have been few games this season where he has not made a save that I have thought - 'not many keepers would have saved that'.

For example, against Oldham he could have sat and read a book in a comfy chair, yet made 2 cracking saves in the 2nd half whilst we were throwing the kitchen sink at them.

Thats what goalkeepers are paid to do, he's average and maybe our only weak link.

I agreed totally with your comment that the play offs are best we can hope for, rubbish ! However, equally I totally disagree on Davis. Keeping him was an excellent piece of work by Pardew and Co.

I agree with you agreeing with me, i disagree with your disagreement with me.

As is your prerogative of course as indeed I too agree and disagree with you.

1. Lambert

2. Lallana

3. Harding

These would be my top 3 contenders for player of the Season.

It would also be nice to see Waigo have recogintion in some way too for the part he played in scoring goals at crucial times in the JPT Cup run that helped us win our first piece of silverware at Wembley for 34 years.

Hope he gets a contract with Saints and is still with us next Season.

Lambo, no question. Not just the 400 goals but also the 2567 assists.

Embellishment of figures like that may lead some to suggest that you could well find employment with Comical Andy down the road at PFC...!! ;)

Based on seeing the grand total of no games (other than Wembley):

1. Ricky Lambert - goals win games, big fee and he delivered.

2. Kelvin Davis - somewhat sentimental vote: turned down 'big' money move to bench warm, stayed loyal, got his reward at Wembley, but also because of the amount of times I heard or saw typed 'great save - kept us in it'.

recently maybe, but he's been immense in many games throughout the season. Huddersfield away for example we could have been 5 down at half time if it wasn't for him. What about all the pens he's saved and the all games where he has made a crucial save to keep us level before we go on to get a result. Less action, but just as crucial to our league form IMO. Not seen a better keeper at this level.

Genuine question. Can I ask who you suggest we get in to replace him?

Posted
He's made some cracking saves this season.

yes agree, especially v Oldham the other night in the 2nd half, almost got kicked in the face for his troubles.

My top 3 are..

Lambert

Lallana

Harding

with fonte, Kelv, morgan and jaidi not far behind.

Makes a change to have so mant stand out performances in a season, long may it continue

I think Kelvin is great but Bart was fantastic when Kelvin got injured I wouldn't be unhappy to have Bart as our number one.

Posted

Lambert easily. Thank god he's our player. When he signed it was the most exciting signing for years and for once we've got a player who has lived up to that expectation. I'd guess that every club in this division and most in the Championship would want him - they can't have him.

Posted
Well the season is done and dusted (well unless you're a real big optimist). So as the dust starts to settle who's your player of the season? Compared to last year it's an embarrasment of richs this season and quite a hard desicion.

However after much consideration I'm plumping for .............

Dan Harding

I don't think I've seen him have a bad game solid performance week after week. Fantastic performance in the cup final playing out of postion, winning goal against Leeds and all for free (bargain). So who's your player of the season?

Totally been mine as well. Yes Lambert has scored loads but Harding has made the biggest most consisted contribution to our team this season. He to me has been been the best player for me. (However as we always go for the chap who scored the most I bet Lambert will get it)

Posted

Harding had a 'mare against Brighton but has generally been excellent.

Lambert and Lallana have been our two other best players. Lambert probably deserves to win.

Nice to see pretty much everyone agrees with this!

Harding??????? FFS Ricky lambert. This thread will be full of random players that various posters will throw out there to look intelligent, much like idiot tabloid football journalists throw out crap opinions each week. lets just al say ricky and be done with it. Oh and if anyone says

Kelvin the clown Baj will shoot you

If awards were being given out for this, then it's obviously Rickie that gets player of the season, but my favourite player this season and the unsung hero IS Harding. He's class, god knows why Leeds didn't keep him. He's a proper, intelligent footballer with a good football brain, which enabled him to play out of position when he was at right back. He'll never win many awards, but there aren't many players I'd rather have at left back than Dan, works his socks off for the cause too.

Special mention to Lallana. Come on in leaps and bounds this season, the most improved player.

1 - Lambert

2 - Lallana

3 - Harding/Fonte/Jaidi

Lambo has just been a key player for us this season, backed up by the fact that he's played in every game this season (except the first game, which he played for Brizzle). Without him we would still be playing like we were last season imo, he's a real talismanic figure for the team and fans. The only thing I worry about with his fantastic performances this season is the threat of another club coming in and poaching him, which is always a reality. He's been constantly linked away from the club, and that is worrying, but that's what happens with every in-form player in the world. It is absolutely vital that we keep him this summer, as we'd struggle to replace him at this level, even with the backing of ML.

Lallana gets second because he's just improved so much this season. Last year we could see his potential, but it was being overshadowed by the negative aspects of his game, such as his lack of strength and his defensive game. However, this year he's improved on these two things (and more) in a very physical league, as well as being played in a new position. Add 19 goals and 5 assists to that and you've got to give the guy credit. Again, like Lambert, it's vital that we keep him this summer.

Harding, Fonte and Jaidi are tied for third because they've all come in and done magnificent jobs at the back. They've really helped to shore up the defence, which was one of our main problems last season, and I think if we had a back 4 like we did last season (without Saeijs, who was excellent) then we wouldn't be where we are now. I'm not sure for how much longer Jaidi is going to be able to play week-in, week-out, but we've got Seabourne and Martin waiting in the wings to make an impression, so hopefully they can step in when needed.

Very honourable mentions to: Davis, Hammond, Antonio, Barnard, Schneiderlin

Posted
In almost every player of the season poll either the top goalscorer or the goalkeeper predictably come out on top.

Got to admit though its hard to argue against RL this season.

I know what you mean. So if we take the top goalscorer out of the equation then i'd have to say Dan Harding.

Lambert

Harding

and a batch of players in third (kelvin, Antonio, lallana, morgan, jaidi)

most improved player is a toss up between Adam and morgan, but i'd give it to Morgan. - simply because he's added so many different parts to his game that he didn't have last year, he's no longer your poncy midfielder - he's gritty and loves a tackle. He also very rarely gives the ball away and is often intelligent with his passing, he now knows when to play it short - or to play it long.

can only see him getting better too.

My top... 10.

1 Lambert

2 Hammond

3 Lallana

4 Jaidi

5 Fonte

6 Harding

7 Schneiderlin

8 Antonio

9 Puncheon

10 Davis

Only 3 non-Pardew signings in the list... I'd have had Schneiderlin higher if he'd managed to stay on the pitch in two of our bigger matches, Fonte much higher if he hadn't only played half a season. Antonio was peripheral for much of it but won us a couple of matches on his own, Rickie wins it because of his overall influence. Barnard, Connolly and Waigo all had their moments but don't even make the top 10. Even Bart came out of this season smelling of roses after his solid performances as cover for Kelv, who I've rated low because we just didn't need him as much this season.

Lallana was immense in dragging himself to new levels with his workrate and scoring in the first couple of months and set a standard to ensure he wasn't one of the many replaced.

Top 3 of the Season

1 - Lambert (Sensational)

2 - Jaidi (Solid and consistent all season)

3 - Hammond (Has been an excellent player at breaking up opponents attacks)

Most Looking forward to next Season

1 - Lallana (Learnt a lot this season, still doesnt know how to play it simple - expect him to mature, a little less fancy and more simple direct football when we're 1 nill down)

2 - Schneiderlin (Expect him to be more disciplined, improve his creativity and score a couple of goals 4/5)

3 - Lambert/Barnard (Should be exciting having these two up front for a whole season!!)

Thats what goalkeepers are paid to do, he's average and maybe our only weak link.

So maybe Lambert shouldn't get it either, he's scored shed loads of goals, but he's only doing what a striker is paid to do.

I've not seen any official mention of the POS, usually there is stuff in the Echo, or on the OS, but I've not seen anything yet - have I missed something?

Posted

1. Lambert (crucial goals when it has mattered)

2. Davis (crucial saves when it has mattered)

3. Perm any one out of Harding, Lallana, Schneiderlin

honourable mention - the rest of the team

Posted

On that reasoning we shouldn't be picking anyone as player of the season.

Thank goodness there is a choice for top players this year, I reckon there's at least six or seven worthies, last year and the year before it was job to think of any outfield player who had done a thing, means its been a great season, my vote goes to AP for bringing them all in and playing together
