buctootim Posted 22 April, 2010 Posted 22 April, 2010 The murder rate last year was the lowest for 20 years - nearly 40% lower than in 2001. I wonder why that that is. You'd expect the murder rate to be fairly stable from year to year. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8153392.stm

Scudamore Posted 22 April, 2010 Posted 22 April, 2010 Surprising what with the hysteria surrounding knife crime
thefunkygibbons Posted 22 April, 2010 Posted 22 April, 2010 There was a sensible article on Radio 4 about this subject One of the reasosn may be that medical treatments mean that some people who are shot or knifed are surviving Seems logical
Atticus Finch of Maycomb Posted 22 April, 2010 Posted 22 April, 2010 Probably people not reporting them as they know the police cant be bothered to act on it yeah nick, thats probably it Man 1: "my wife got murdered yesterday" Man 2: "well have you told the police?" Man 1: "nah, they won't bother to do anything about it" spot on.
Hatch Posted 22 April, 2010 Posted 22 April, 2010 everything was better when I were a lad. It's cos all the kids are indoors on their computer games these days. They should get out more.

My wife keeps saying we should report it, but I keep saying 'Why bother calling the police they won't be interested, and while you're at it will you tread that fresh earth down in the back garden'
ecuk268 Posted 22 April, 2010 Posted 22 April, 2010 Reminds me of a remark from a Glasgow Police Chief many years ago. When asked to explain the high numbers of murders in Glasgow he said "Yes, we do have a lot of murders, but they're not too serious. Most of them are just husbands killing their wives".
Durleyfos Posted 22 April, 2010 Posted 22 April, 2010 Perhaps all the people who were going to murder someone, have been murdered.
buctootim Posted 22 April, 2010 Author Posted 22 April, 2010 Atlanta in the US has one of the highest murder rates. There was criticism when the Olympics was held there because it was felt to be unsafe for athletes and visitors. The Mayor of Atlanta famously gave a tv interview in which he said reassuringly "most people who come to Atlanta hardly ever get murdered"
Hatch Posted 22 April, 2010 Posted 22 April, 2010 I feel I am slightly to blame. For the last 4 years my New Years Resolution has been to murder someone. So far I have failed in my quest. Not that there isn't enough candidates, far from it, there are plenty, I just haven't devised a perfect murder plan yet.

My wife keeps saying we should report it, but I keep saying 'Why bother calling the police they won't be interested, and while you're at it will you tread that fresh earth down in the back garden' You know, in all honesty, that was the first post in about two years in which i have made a joke and someone else has responded by also making a joke. You didn't call me a name, or call me a paedophile, or tell me i was a trolling little c*nt. You just joked back. And I thought humour and common sense was completely dead on this forum. Thank you.
saintkiptanui Posted 22 April, 2010 Posted 22 April, 2010 Perhaps all the people who were going to murder someone, have been murdered. This is the truth, less and less evils about.
Faz Posted 22 April, 2010 Posted 22 April, 2010 Lots of reasons: *Its a lot more difficult than you'd think to Murder someone. *Bloody Doctors *People are getting better at making it look like an accident *Midsummer's population is nolonger sustainable
St Landrew Posted 22 April, 2010 Posted 22 April, 2010 Amazing isn't it..? What with all the reporting of murders and other crimes in the media, you think fortress GB was under siege. But actually, it is mostly made up of people just going about their fun and business.
Draino76 Posted 22 April, 2010 Posted 22 April, 2010 It's probably getting a bit harder to murder someone and get away with it; you know with CCTV, DNA and Judge Judy on the Teley. More folk can get the thrill of a kill on MW2 also. What, with Saints winning as well, there really is no need to anymore.
Johnny Bognor Posted 22 April, 2010 Posted 22 April, 2010 We're in the worst economic recession for decades and murder weapons don't come cheap you know.
