TopGun Posted 19 April, 2010 Share Posted 19 April, 2010 Best 3rd division number 7 we have had Very sardonic but true. Might be better also.
TopGun Posted 19 April, 2010 Share Posted 19 April, 2010 Except Tomasz Hajto, maybe. He did have a mean RB cross to the left wing... but that was all... and anyway Nathan Dyer didn't have the brains to foresee that stuff...
krissyboy31 Posted 19 April, 2010 Share Posted 19 April, 2010 Best 3rd division number 7 we have had Terry Paine was probably our best 3rd division No 7 TBH.
Belgiansaint Posted 20 April, 2010 Share Posted 20 April, 2010 In terms of sheer talent, no. Matty was simply one of a kind. But in terms of impact and considering the differences in divisions, then he certainly is as important for Saints this season as Matty was in the PL days. Ian the Red Posted 20 April, 2010 Share Posted 20 April, 2010 Rickie Lambert is a great player, Le Tiss was a great world class player. RL is not in the same league as MLT, if he was he would not be playing for a League 1 team
Professor Posted 20 April, 2010 Share Posted 20 April, 2010 Its not just the goals a player scores, but who he scores against. In top level football, strikers have less time and are against better defenders, better goalkeepers. Rickie is great in L1, and may well be good in the Champ, but how would he do against Arsenal, Liverpool, Man U, Chelsea, and the likes against whom Matty scored his goals. Window Cleaner Posted 20 April, 2010 Share Posted 20 April, 2010 The answer is we don't have enough data to know. When RL plays against top class opposition we'll be able to decide.
Harry Faz Posted 20 April, 2010 Share Posted 20 April, 2010 But isnt great that the kids can have a hero again. My son is 8 and sees lambert as a footballing god , and unlike his non-saints supporting mates, he gets to see his hero on the pitch. Thank you Rickie, Pardew , marcus and NC. ottery st mary Posted 20 April, 2010 Share Posted 20 April, 2010 My daughter is a big fan of Rickeee Lambert now....... For some reason Andrew Surman is no longer on the bedroom wall...... Come to think of it..That could be the reason poor old Surman has not been playing for Wolves all this time.
rpb Posted 20 April, 2010 Share Posted 20 April, 2010 Terry Paine was probably our best 3rd division No 7 TBH. I think that Terry Paine was our best 3rd, 2nd and 1st Division No 7. Rickie is better at heading than MLT was, otherwise ...
irishsaint83 Posted 20 April, 2010 Share Posted 20 April, 2010 I reckon Rickie Lambert is miles better than MLT.............. at stealing hubcaps and other liverpudlian hobbies

Good point my son thinks papa is one of the greatest footballers in the world and even my four year old daughter knows what Lambert looks like, bodes well for the future fan base I think. Avenue Saint Posted 20 April, 2010 Share Posted 20 April, 2010 I think because Matt has retired and he scored some vital goals at key times, we have rose tinted spectacles about him. Don’t get me wrong, on his day he was up there with the best in the world BUT…..he wasn’t as good as we remember. He was lazy. He sometimes went missing. He wasn’t as good in the air as Ricky. He did perform in the highest division but at a time when the league was of a much lower standard. Lets face it Dowie, Dryden and Neil Heaney also performed at the highest level at the same time. I think Ricky has played like a god this season and if he is able to do the same for another 4 or 5 years, in that time turn down a big money offer to say Villa (equivalent to spurs in the 90’s) then he will be up there with Matt, if not better. big lol u havent got a clue. sorry. Saint137 Posted 20 April, 2010 Share Posted 20 April, 2010 My favourite player in recent years, he is a class above everyone else on the pitch, the opposition are **** scared of him, he wins everything in the air, you feel he can score from anywhere on the pitch, he's completely unselfish. Without him I think we'd be in a serious relegation battle. I'd love to see him tested in the Prem but guess we'll have to wait a couple of years for that now For me its Channon, Osgood, Dennis, Danny Wallace, Steve Williams, Steve Moran, Shearer, MLT, Beattie, Pahars, and Lambert. He's our best player by a country mile this season, I reckon we could play him anywhere and he'd still be awesome. Technical ability plus workrate plus vision plus passion. No-one can touch Le God but I'd say he's the 2nd best player I've seen in a Saints shirt in 30+ years of watching.
SNSUN Posted 20 April, 2010 Share Posted 20 April, 2010 MLT didn't have to work for his goals - he was THAT naturally talented. Rickie is a good footballer, but a lot of his game has been taught to him - eye for goal, work rate, positioning etc. MLT was taught as most footballers were taught, but had the natural skill to elevate himself above others. He didn't HAVE to do any work - he was born awesome.
Kingsbridge Saint Posted 20 April, 2010 Share Posted 20 April, 2010 Lambert is a great player, and could go on to be even better, but Le Tiss was in my opinion the greatest player ever, up there with Cruyff and Pele. Far better than Maradona. Had an argument with Irish father in Law that he was better than Best which he wouldn't accept at all - until I showed him the 'Unbelievable' video.......
