In that big interview he did Cortese said that DoF role looked less likely to happen.

Looks like he saw how well it worked in the continent but realised we don't really need one here.

Big rumour that Mark Hughes was interviewed. Not sure if true just what I heard.

Interviewed for what, the Bristol City job?

I can't see Hughes in a DoF role, and he would probably see himself in a higher profile role than Saints.

Don't see Saints or DoF mentioned in the article, what have I missed?

There has been speculation that Coppell was in the frame for DOF which is now not the case

Did NC ever mention Director of Football. I though it was actually Sporting Director, he was looking for someone on the Board to help him with the football side of things. Not necessarily the same thing as the DoF role traditionally. Anyway I though Coppell was in for it, but looks like he sees himself back in management with Bristol ****ty instead, maybe he's had a rethink of his future after being out of the game for a while.

Not a priority at the moment, but will still happen later down the line.

Could the recently signed Les Reed operate as a de facto Sporting Director perhaps? He certainly has a wide ranging remit with us, by the sound of it, and tons of experience at the highest levels of technical coaching.

Probably not so much a dressing room guy, but his inside knowledge of the game must be immense. Hard not to see Cortese utilizing that sort of knowledge when he has it on hand, and Reed could certainly critique AP if required...

I wondered the same thing, except I doubt Reed will be involved in transfer negotiations which is often within the DoF/Sporting Director's remit.

Coppell becoming Bristol City manager could well signify that Cortese is 100% behind Alan Pardew for next season.

IMHO of course.

Not that there was ever any doubt, obviously....
