When I was younger I used to go and watch the 'Cherrys' if I could not afford to go to watch the Saints away. I was even in their 'home' pub earlier this season wearing my Saints shirt and they were all fine, just freindly banter.

There are few idiots (all clubs have them) but most don't have any problems with us.

"David in Sweden" rubbished the "hordes of Saints" fans on the train. The (10 coach )train from Poole/Bmouth I was on for the Johnstone Paint final was about one third full of Saints fans by the time it reached New Milton , so there are a lot of Saints fans in this area. At the pre season friendly we outnumbered them by about 3 to 1 at the Fitness first stadium. I dont suppose we will play them this pre season - hopefully some Prem teams ( West Ham ???) instead. Only recent competitive fixtures was a two legged defeat for us in the old league cup over 20 years ago.

liked bournemouth's chants on the football league show...

que sera, sera

whatever will be, will be

we're going to st mary's

show's how much it means to them, can't imagine we'd ever sing about having to go to fratton.

I fail to see why going to St Mary's is such a big thing for them? Am i missing something? Other than the fact they are just down the road...

Wembley

Old Trafford

Anfield

Emirates

St Marys

Things these small clubs dream of...be proud, very proud that we can give this much pleasure.

They would have been gutted at the reaction when their promotion was announced at St Marys - I didn't hear a single boo, a few half-hearted cheers.

I've always had a soft spot for Bournemouth, probably because it was at Dean Court that I had my first taste of English football ever. So wholehearted congrats to them - especially under those very difficult circumstances, them getting promoted is no mean feat - and I look forward to attending both games next season, wearing the stripes of course.

I'm quite impressed they've got promoted considering the problems they've had. In truth though with the resources they have (or in their case haven't) do they really think they'll last more than a season in league one?

I love the bit on link above where they say we will struggle to get out of league one yet make not mention of how much they'll struggle to stay in it.

I must admit I find it hard to believe that you dont think Bournemouth fans are delighted to be in the same League as SFC and are looking forward to playing in our superb stadium

The pre season friendly was really strange, 2,000 of us packed into a tiny little corner and then probably 1,000 b'mouth fans spread around the rest of the ground.

Next seasons away game should be good, would be a nice one to open with so we can send them straight to the bottom of the table.

Reading that same comment I thought thatthey wouldn't struggle to get out of L1, it would just be the opposite direction.

Then I couldn't be arsed to register and post.

Eddie Howe has done an amazing job down there, rarely being able to put the full amount of subs out because of the embargo.

I'm glad they have been promoted, makes the slog of next season slightly more appealing.

let them build up the rivalry that really is not there..they will bring the full 3.2k allocation to SMS and try and act up....

bless them..

I bet their owners are mightily glad we're not going up so they can look forward to the payday our game at their place will give them.

FFS lets not go on their forums so they think we take them as rivals. Ignoring them will annoy them more than giving it them big one.

They reckon they are going to run the city. I do hope they get their comuppence.

Bournemouth will be goners as soon as Howe is taken away, fantastic manager

I wonder how much of Howe's success can be traced back to playing under Sean O'Driscoll and Mel Machin before him. As I recall AFCB had a good record of playing attractive, winning football under them.

Look at his recrd since he took over last season. It is unbelievably good. Add to that the size of his squad and the embargo. They aslohad Charlie Austin to be signed but due to the embargo couldnt and so he went to Swindon. Howe is a top manager and if he keeps it up will be a top division one at another club of course.

To the Bread of Heaven hymn tune

'We hate Pompey, we hate Po-o-ompey

Who the farking hell are you?'

Or - 'You're just a town full of wrinklies'

I never minded them, felt a bit sorry for them, thought it was a cheap place to send youngsters on loan etc but now they are six points to be had & despised accordingly.

Well done to Bournemouth and especially Eddie Howe, really fairy tale stuff. Still without a pot to **** in and a league higher, I would be really surprised if they can keep it up and finances will eventually drag them back down. As for their "idiots" on a wind up, I think we have them easily beat there on a direct ratio to crowd size and after all, we did throw Cherrypip at them.

Howe should get manager of the year, cannot see any other candidate coming close, but they have a habit of producing managers in recent years, Howe, Pulis and especially O'Driscoll, some of THE best football played in the CCC on a shoe string.

I'm sure Redcrapp will come out and take credit for teaching Eddie Howe all he knows, if he hasn't already of course !!

They will have trouble keeping hold of him, especially if he does perform a miracle next season.

He's only 32, what a future he has in front of him.

Redknapp did have Howe when he was manager of P****y. So i'm sure he'll take the credit. For sure!

He was injured for most of his time there though and only played a couple of games with them.

born in Bournemouth, brought up in Southampton so looking forward to the games...i always look for thier results and they are my second team...but saints are my number 1 but when we beat them i will be feeling like a player scoring against his childhood team

build a bonfire, build a bonfire, put the bournemouth on the top, put the pompey in the middle, then we'll burn the fcking lot

Apparently at the cherries games yesterday they were singing "que sarra sarra, whatever will be will be, we're going to st.marys, que sarra sarra". This imo is pathetic. I don't know any one that give a **** about Bournemouth.

It is rather flattering and shows the fact they agree we are a bigger club!

We should never the less give them credit that they have done very well given their financial situation and transfer restrictions and are "punching well above their weight" (just as as we are punching below ours) even to be in the same league as us. So let them enjoy the brief moment (hopefully) whilst it lasts!

Probably won't have escaped Cortese's attention either,...should the need ever arise of course.

Now that would **** them off!!!

I'm not sure the fuss in that que sera sera song. Fair play to them. Howe has done a fantastic job and it wasn't that long ago we were premiership and they were miles away from us. Of course they still are in the grand scheme of things, but for them to be in the same league as us is flattering to them and I didn't take that chant as one of a bitter rivalry, it seemed one of pride in their team getting promoted against all the odds.

As far as their fans that call us scummers, you're always going to have the wannabes with chips on their shoulders. I'm looking forward to playing them, and I was hoping we'd have drawn them in the JPT this season.

Posted (edited)

Just ignore them and they'll go away - Don't go on their forums, the way to wind them up is to just ignore them, When they come to SMS just don't give them the time of the day; don't rise to any chants etc. Then they will soon realise that NOBODY CARES!!!!

Dear oh dear, that thread is 'LOLable'

There are a great many of us who went down to their place in their hour of need put our hands in our pokets and put money in the buckets to help save them. We also bought Neil Moss payed up front and then loaned him back.

Posted

Bournemouths support definitely see us as hated rivals, never really bothered about them myself, but from lads ive met at england + verbals at waterloo dont expect a nice friendly day out. By all means ignore them, but i think they will provoke a reaction

Posted

They can buy players now, whether they have the money or not i don't know. As for the rivarly i really don't see it as being anything to worry about, there's a lot of mouth from some of them but it's really not anything. You'll get far more problems at cardiff, bristol city and a few others.

Now lets just wish them well and get on with it before they start thinking we care!

Posted

Live 5 minutes walk from there ground, will be bizarre having an away game that is closer than a home game. Best of luck to them, now lets do them for 6 points and get on with winning this damn league.

well I was actually responding to spy in the sky 's posting where he used the word " hordes " , and I can believe that a lot of Saints fans live outside the city boundaries - even as far away as B'mouth, but I thought we were referring to the Cherries fans.

B-mouths capacity is 10700 but the highest they've had so far this season is 7626, and they average 5568 per home game. I don't know what % of Cherries fans' travel away... but it's sure to be a few more when they come to SMS:

Most of us know SMS capacity is 32K+ but we 've still managed 20787 AVERAGE per game, thats only third behind Norwich and Leeds who average 24K+.

The whole debate is about " what is a local derby " (and the +/- arguements) is perhaps decided by the number of travelling fans. Certainly fans from further west... Plymouth / Exeter/ Yeovil would be more likely to come to SMS than say travel to London / Midlands opposition, and that swells the attendance, plus such games being played at Bank Holidays is purely a compromise to fit in with the reduced train/bus traffic available on Public Holidays (which of course gives more freedom to those who can travel shorter distances).

I might be wrong here but I thought the 10700 was a few seasons ago when they had the golf stand up. Now it's back to something like 9800.
