OldNick Posted 16 April, 2010 Share Posted 16 April, 2010 Can anyone recommend a good joiner/joinery company as Im looking into costings re a Grade 2 listed farmhouse I may offer on. Most of the the windows need replacing (17) (some are Crittle steel, hideous) and I wanted a ball park price. Each one is obviously custom made as the sizes are all different.. bridge too far Posted 16 April, 2010 Share Posted 16 April, 2010 Oh I thought for a minute you were going to say you had a few screws loose. Here's a well-known company that specialises in 'replacement' windows for listed buildings. http://www.theheritagewindowcompany.co.uk/theheritagewindow_brochure.pdf Be warned though, if it's listed, you might not be able to install double glazing or PVC windows! OldNick Posted 16 April, 2010 Author Share Posted 16 April, 2010 Superb start thanks. It would be ideal if someone from here had a company that did it. The Totton 1 does ring a bell as I lived that way 10years or so ago.

Thanks BTF, i did realise about the PVC thingy, and know you can't use those. It would be so easy if so, but im not out to destroy our heritage, especially as my business is about conserving it. Wes Tender Posted 17 April, 2010 Share Posted 17 April, 2010 http://elmwoodjoineryandoverltd.net/ This company is somebody I have had business dealings with. They are reputed to be honest and reliable, although not necessarily the cheapest. I understand they have done lots of pub refurbishment in the past, which requires a high standard of work. Scudamore Posted 17 April, 2010 Share Posted 17 April, 2010 Charles at MKR Joinery should be able to help you. Think their website speaks for itself. http://www.mkr-joinery.co.uk/ He also has a cracking 'ampshure accent...
countysaint Posted 20 April, 2010 Share Posted 20 April, 2010 Hi Nick I work for a double glazing sealed unit manufacturing company that has been in business for 58 years and is one of the largest businesses of its type in the south. As part of my job I deliver to several joinery companies, the bigges local one who do a wide range of products to the best standard imaginable is a company in Empress road called Ridon joinery. I know the proprietors very well and would reccommend their work highly. Also there was an earlier mention from another poster suggesting Input Joinery. I also supply them and they are based in Andover and are huge, again I would reccommend them but they are a massive company whereas Ridon are a large familly run business and you would probably get a more personal service from them. If you would like an introduction to either then give me a PM and I will see if we could maybe get you a better deal by reccommendation. cheers. SaintSi Posted 21 April, 2010 Share Posted 21 April, 2010 I can personally reccomend Scammell and Higgins in Winchester, they have done jobs for me over several years and i can't fault them.
buctootim Posted 21 April, 2010 Share Posted 21 April, 2010 Ive used these people for two sets of french doors. Very good quality at reasonable price. Persoanlly I think I would go for wooden windows as youve said - but these aluminium ones are good and low maintenance and are specifically desinged to replace crittalls. lots of pics of period property installations. http://www.duration.co.uk/heritagewindow.asp
