Andy_Porter Posted 16 April, 2010 Posted 16 April, 2010 So is he the director of football or just looking over the accademy? Can't really be arsed to read that article.

JonnyLove Posted 16 April, 2010 Posted 16 April, 2010 To suggest another coach is brought into the club without the 'Head Coach' having influence over who that is would be naive. Be is not here as a coach. He has done coaching before and also been a manager before but this is not his job. This is what he is here for Head of the Club's new Football Development and Support Centre. "The Football Development and Support Centre is an exciting new structure that will oversee four main areas - The Academy, Scouting, Sports Medicine and Equipment Procurement"
OldNick Posted 16 April, 2010 Posted 16 April, 2010 I notice there also seems to be a emphasis on making the young players who come through the system 'more rounded' Perhaps we are hoping that they will be less likely to be in clubs drinking and staying out late, like so many of the footballers in the recent past.
INFLUENCED.COM Posted 16 April, 2010 Posted 16 April, 2010 Everything contained within that role will require him to draw on his experience as a coach, the fact that he is an experienced coach is what made him attractive for the position, I accept his title does not have coach in it but how do you ensure others develop without coaching ? Whether AP had influence or not over the appointment we will have to wait for confirmation but I hope he is happy with it as surely they will be in communication

corsacar saint Posted 16 April, 2010 Posted 16 April, 2010 The set up is top drawer, now we need to get out of this league a.s.a.p,to match the off field progress.

That's be one man trying change almost an entire countrie's culture then
INFLUENCED.COM Posted 16 April, 2010 Posted 16 April, 2010 ok..you reckon he will don his tracksuit much then..? clearly you do.. Do you have to wear a tracksuit to coach/develop ? (rupes managed to do it 'mostly' in a suit)
JonnyLove Posted 16 April, 2010 Posted 16 April, 2010 Do you have to wear a tracksuit to coach/develop ? (rupes managed to do it 'mostly' in a suit) I am sure he had a track suit though In fact I am sure I remember a photo of him in one with RL on it. God that makes my blood boil when I think of that. GRRRRRR. By the way I am sure AP has been in discussions but I was just trying to point out that I don't think AP influenced the decision as much as some people where suggesting and that although they will have a working relationship it is not as together as again people where trying to suggest. That was all.
JonnyLove Posted 16 April, 2010 Posted 16 April, 2010 Do you have to wear a tracksuit to coach/develop ? (rupes managed to do it 'mostly' in a suit) I am also going to argue the develop point you raise
saint_stevo Posted 16 April, 2010 Posted 16 April, 2010 That's be one man trying change almost an entire countrie's culture then Gotta expect young blokes to wanna go out and get p*ssed and **** some *****rs. Just needs to be done at a certain time really for pro footy players
saint_stevo Posted 16 April, 2010 Posted 16 April, 2010 nah hes always a knob Pot, kettle black Charlton fan
sperm_john Posted 16 April, 2010 Posted 16 April, 2010 whats that, weve employed Les Dennis? Well I never ...our club family fortunes must be in!
VectisSaint Posted 16 April, 2010 Posted 16 April, 2010 So in this case then your saying in business that your IT dept is instrumental in bringing in a Tele sales bod. I'm not saying that AP was not part of the process but it is not in an area that directly affects AP. And everyone was saying that AP worked with him at Charlton which from what I understand is incorrect. I am sure they new each other and when going through the process of who should be the man I am sure AP had his say but don't think for one minute it was his influence that brought this decision. I suppose it depends on your definition of instrumental, but I would be shocked if AP was not very influential in the decision, probably recommended and NC would have interviewed (probably interviewed others as well), but in the end AP would have had a huge say. To think that the role of Reed is not connected with AP is naive to say the least, it is very important that you have someone you know and trust working the Academy and bringing the right players through. By the way, you are abslolutely correct that AP and LR did not work together at Charlton, Reed left for Fulham when AP was appointed.
Lets B Avenue Posted 16 April, 2010 Posted 16 April, 2010 I am surprised that the Echo didn't print an "exclusive" first thing this morning.
Wade Garrett Posted 17 April, 2010 Posted 17 April, 2010 Don't know too much about him, but the job seems a load of ****** to me. "The Football Development and Support Centre is an exciting new structure that will oversee four main areas - The Academy, Scouting, Sports Medicine and Equipment Procurement" Sports medicine - get a doctor with real expertise in. He doesn't need an unskilled manager to oversee him. The Academy, leave it to Dodd and co. It's not like we haven't had any youngsters coming through. Scouting - leave as is. Pardew has signed some cracking players and has been quoted as having a great network of scouts and contacts. Equipment Procurement! I hope he won't be buying fish tanks and eye gyms. This does seem to be a bit of a waste of money.
NickG Posted 17 April, 2010 Posted 17 April, 2010 so why have they done it? possibly people who know about running a club see a need?
dubai_phil Posted 17 April, 2010 Posted 17 April, 2010 so why have they done it? possibly people who know about running a club see a need? Bloody wimps, don't need all that, it's the managers job..... Good appointment, good track record and experience and a very careful dig by Matt Crocker at the way some of the younger players were "brought up" previously at the end of the OS article...... about "the boys being more disciplined in their approach to the game" and "family oriented" and "life skills"...
Badger Posted 17 April, 2010 Posted 17 April, 2010 He appears to have a very impressive CV from reading the OS having coached at a high level and highly regarded in the football world for taking on a development role. Not too sure about the OS statement crediting him with the likes of Rio F Defoe, and Joe Coles development whilst at the FA as most of the credit for that is surely attributable to their clubs.(The OS also brush over his time at Charlton although as said about Gray and Wigley before on here, they can't be blamed for the boards promoting them out of their depth). Looked on Wikipedia to see "Leslie Thelonius Reed (born 12 December 1952 in Wapping, London)..." Can't remember a Thelonius at the club before. Don't know too much about him, but the job seems a load of ****** to me. This does seem to be a bit of a waste of money. Disagree with you.Presumably many might have said Georges Prost was a waste of money. I accept that the Sports Medicine and Eqiupment Procurement areas have a bit of SCW stamped over them but as for the other roles we do need someone to direct it.To some extent the academy seems to have lost its way since Prost left. Dodd ? & Co ? No real track record to rely on. The scouting network here is more likely to be in the recruitment role for academy rather than first team players. Not written by Dave Merrington was it ? DM was of course an excellent youth - now called academy coach - although benefitted from a good scouting network ie Bob Higgins, and(Jack Hickson,I think), the geordie who brought Shearer and Maddison down, and another in Wiltshire whose name escapes me.
Faz Posted 17 April, 2010 Posted 17 April, 2010 Runaraaaaaahnd. It should make them fit, if not particularly skillful.

Badger Posted 17 April, 2010 Posted 17 April, 2010 Bob Higgins, nice. Okay,I am aware of rumours/issues/allegations* surrounding him but you have to acknowledge he did bring a few quality youngsters through to the club. The Wallace's are prime example, and was he not also involved in the London set up that saw Williams,Hayes,Chicken George,Steve Neville etc coming to The Dell ? *were any of these rumours ever substantiated though?
