I really hope he stay's but why can't he just come out and say he's not interested if he wants to stay? Or NC come out and say he's going nowhere, therefore putting the onus on Pard's to say he's staying, all this no comment bollixs does my head in!

I hate to say it but usually when a manager refuses to comment it is because there is some truth in the story.

IMO it would be a mistake because I think the decline in Scottish football is virtually terminal, but no one really knows how "happy" he is here. I think some of the "stuff" that went on between him and Cortese earlier in the year may have just persuaded him to leave the exit door slightly ajar or at least keep an eye out for where the lifeboats are situated.

Celtic, like Coventry and Saints before them are suffering from post Strachan syndrome. Unless they sort it, they are heading in the same direction as Coventry and Saints.

Mobray faced the identical situation to Paul Sturrock. He was edged out by the internal mafia who were quick off the mark to rally round Lennon. Woe betide anyone going in there without removing the lot of Strachan's left overs. Strachan got Celtic playing identically to how he got Coventry and Saints playing and then he walked out.

When a manager, a famous person, film star says no comment, it usually means, he's not going to waste the time of day with bull s h it e.

This is the point....Cortese's support (or lack of it) may persuade AP that grass is greener elsewhere.

Glasgow is a fantastic city and Celtic are a huge club. This week they had a crowd of 28,000 and it was the lowest for years - the regularly get closer to 60,000.

The Celtic job is huge and the owner is very very wealthy - I would not be surprised if he went.

Well, you know more about Celtic finances than me but if he is so wealthy why hasn't he assembled a side that can beat Ross County?

Name one poster who wants AP out.

You have hardly been his biggest fan have you? And have you forgotten already the Not If But When we sack him thread or the threads after he won the cup telling us that if we weren't certs to go up by next Christmas he should be on his bike.

Hardly a ringing endorsement.

Posted

I just can't see why Pards would consider Celtic.

Maybe it's a case of me being biased and/or arrogant towards Saints, but the SPL isn't an attractive proposition in my opinion, especially when AP has a chance to make a real name for himself at St. Mary's.

I know people will come back with 'Celtic are a big club' and 'they can offer Champions League football' but what about the rubbish teams they play week in, week out? Yes, they have a big fan base and a rich history, but there is only so much to achieve there, where as we're a club going places with big ambitions.

Having said all that, I am slightly concerned by AP's comments. If there was no truth to this story, then surely he would have ruled it out altogether? The 'no comment' stance is a worry, but hopefully he'll remain at Saints for the long-term.

I've never forgotten that thread. Mainly because not one person on it wanted Pardew sacked, and neither does Alpine. And neither does anyone on here.

But doesn't suit your little routine does it, so you carry on living in your dreamworld.

Hopefully a bit of clever politicking by Pardew to keep Cortese on his toes.

Let's hope Pardew doesn't end up with his bluff being called.

Celtic is a PLC but the largest share holder is Dermot Desmond - he's worth a reported 1.6 Billion.

They paid 3 million in compensation for Mowbray, signed Keane on loan (65k a week wages), signed Fortune for 3 million, Diomansy Kamara, Edson Braafheid (on loan from Bayern Munich) and Jos Hooiveld for 2 million.

They have invested a fair bit (sold a few too)

Local press is reporting that the new manager will get 15 million to spend in the summer.

Lambert is the fans pick - with Norwich already promoted they may struggle to persuade him?

Oh its you again having another misguided shot. Obvioulsy you don't read the threads very carefully.

That thread was not if we should sack Pardew but when. Go and read it.

If you haven't read the posts from people telling us when we should sack Pardew if he doesn't produce in their timeframe you are truly living in the same rarified , has criticised him for a lack of ambition (go figure) and rarely wastes an opportunity to have a pop at him.

Tell me, are you Mrs Alpine?

If you read that thread - that "when" was the point of the discussion, but none of it was "now", which is how you read it and have been boring people about it ever since.

What you're sore about is Pardew is delivering in the kind of timeframe people like me said was perfectly possible and you pompously said was unrealistic and impatient.

Pardew delivered instant success and you can't stand it because it blows your arse-aching guff about needing three years clean out of the water.

Pardew's no comment means he wants to know that NC wants him to stay a saint as much as over 75% of us fans want him to take us on an upwards march

Did I see that Celtic have got £15 million to spend well that would rule out any move for Rickie he's worth loads more

Might work out for NC and AP I suppose. There have been rumours around for months that AP and NC aren't happy with each other (how true those rumours are is up for debate however) if it is true AP goes somewhere else head held high most agreeing he's done a good job his reputation restored after the Charlton debacle. NC gets rid of AP without looking like a **** and saints get a big wedge of compensation and bring Coppell in everyones a winner. Personally I want AP to stay but it's not up to me, if he does go I hope he doesn't plunder us for our good players (he can take Pulis though)

To be fair ..they could put the 15 down and pay the other 10 mil on tick.....

Celtic are not a big club anymore ..as the league shows...Rangers are in a different league......The mighty Saints leave them both standing....Part timers up there in Scotland:)

Celtic really think they are big-time with significant pulling power..

FFS, League One is more of a challenge than the SPL nowadays.

And who wants European football if its going to be a first-round ritual humiliation ?

Ummmmmmm! Poors mouth do;)

IN what Universe do you think any of what you write makes sense. I have been 100% behind Pardew from day 1 so what should I have a problem with the fact that he is doing so well. If you bothered to read anything I have posted I have supported him even when your hubby was slating him for losing to "lesser" teams. For your information I have never said that delivereing this year was not possible, just unrealistic after the start we had. It is still a tall order by the way.

Not once did I say that it will take 3 years. I said that it took Lawrie Mac three years to get us back up and that people like Alpine would have called for his head long before he succeded.

If you are going to engage in a debate, have the decency to get your facts right.

By the way, I am not the least bit sore about Pardew being successful and can't believe where you have conjured that little gem up from.

Like your buddy you have your own agenda and live in your own little cocoon.

I am going to watch Shameless now so at least I won't have wasted the whole evening.

Yeah could be right but my guess is NC would not welcome being "kept on his toes" by anyone, and indeed his bluff could be called.

Pardew is not perfect (certainly tactically) but to lose him would be a setback we don't need - but I guess that is stating the obvious to most on here, if not all.

no-one in their right mind wants to live in Scotland!

I've lived in Bournemouth, Cornwall, Southampton, New York, Geneva, New Jersey, Glasgow and London.

Glasgow would be in my top 3 - depends on your lifestyle but I like golf, I like honest friendly people, I like amazing scenery, I like resonable priced housing, I like a city where 99% are proud of there city/country, I like living in a community where people talk, meet up and support each other.

Trust me - in terms of lifestyle Glasgow has far, far more to offer than Southampton.

Not next season they won't, as only one team from the SPL is in the CL, and that looks like it is Rangers.

AP is a bloody good manager, dont blame Celtic for wanting him and let's face it they're a good CCC/poor Premiership side in terms of quality, something Pards has been used to in the past.

I would like to see him turn this one down asp, demonstrating commitment will send a strong message to fans, players and our bloody good owner.

Do Celtic have a director of football?

Would be strange of them to be picking transfer targets without a manager otherwise... Can't see Lennon getting the job full time after his last few results.

Hardly a I definitely wont go.

By the way Glasogw and Scotland is an okay place to live.

It is about 10000 times better than Southampton believe me

Glasgow is in Scotland unfortunately, therefore is rubbish :)

Chelsea have a DOF well infact a group of people who make the transfers for them, was just wondering if that was the case with Celtic.

i was probably over egging it a bit by saying big clubs do it all the time..but some do...

Have no idea with celtic, can only guess (if rumour is true) that they have been watching him etc

Who could blame him. He doesn't have Cortese's support and what a doddle of a job - managing one of two League One standard sides playing in front of huge crowds in a Blue Square premier standard league. Its difficult to see how it can go wrong..........

Sir Rickie

he lives up there and that is a VERY strong rumour doing the rounds of the celtic fans..NOT pardew but SRL is the southampton link

Not happening either. He would be testing himself more in League 1 than SPL. Scottish football is a joke. Plus since when did RL live in Glasgow.

Which country ? Not in England..

Whether you like them or not. You have to admit Celtc have a bigger fan base in the UK and world than Saints. Personally i think he'd be mad to go as even Strachan who won titles and did well in europe was not popular up there.

Interesting conspiracy theory but one rumour today - Mail on Sunday - is that Coppell will take over at Bristol City.

Like you I want AP to remain.

Should he leave then I don't want us to again go down the route of allowing a previous name to use us as a means of rehabilitation back into the game (ie Hughes,Curbishley etc). This however is hypothetical so no point proffering candidates.
