Antonio - Will he be a saint next season..?

While I have to like the sentiment, surely it depends what offers come in during the long summer ahead. There was a rumour on here that Everton where interested in Lambert, you have to feel that if it was true and they made an offer Lambert would be pretty tempted.

I think the players are happy here (they seem to be on matchdays) and are happy to stay unless a really good offer comes in ie EPL or top championship side. As a plyer it's easy to say you want to stay when there are no offers on the table.

Perhaps - but in the same interview Pardew said "if someone comes in with £10 million for Lambert, we might have to review the situation". You reckon anyones gonna pay that kinda money?

Yep.

Those "we will walk this league next season" comments all over this site are looking really stupid even before this season has finished.

This is just the beginning of the break-up of this seasons squad.

It was always going to happen.

How can you say the comments look stupid already? This season hasnt even finished and the new one wont start until august.

Come back to me this time next year and if we arent top then fair enough.

If Antonio goes we'll get someone else in. A lot of time, effort and resources have gone into rebuilding the infrastructure back up at the club, so hoepfully the scouts will find a decent replacement.

only thing thats changed since the effective end of the season...one where we have shown over the last 75% plus that we are good enough to be promoted is..

Pardew has said that he expects all players to stay as they have a chance to be a champion.

and that he wants to strengthen the side in the summer

and that the players he is after are players good enough to stay in the side for the season after as well and make play offs in CCC.

No where is it said that players are likely to leave.

No where have we said we won't sign Antonio - on contrary we have confirmed talks.

No where has Antonio said he wants to go back to Reading (notice no quotes from him on their OS - strange?)

Think most would agree that one poster is looking really stupid.

he scored 30+ last season, was available cheaper and on lower wages and no-one higher up came in for him.

No I don't. I'm just saying that it's easy for players to say I'm not going anywhere if there are no offers on the table. Players are always saying they're happy and don't want to leave and are then gone three weeks latter when someone offers them a better deal.

For what it's worth I think the club want to hold onto our players and will fight hard to do so. At the same time I don't think we should take it as red that we won't lose any of our best players over the summer either.

if someone offers £10m for lambert, im sure Cortese will drive him to that club himself

The point being that the figures it would require for us to accept a bid are not the sort of fees clubs could afford to pay for a gamble.

how much do you think it would cost to buy lambert..?

add in the factor he may well want to go...and when a player wants out, that is pretty much that these days

Why? If we are discussing hypothetical situations, why can't we assume that Lambert wants to stay inside St Marys stadium until he dies?

And FWIW, upwards of £4million.

Oh, and making the assumption that he wants to go - when by every single account from the player, the manager and fans who have spoken to him says otherwise - looks a tad pessimistic. As in, it looks like you prefer to talk about the negative possibilities rather than the positive ones.

you are mental....MLT apart, that does not happen to saints with quality players...even the great MLT was about to sign for someone else once and said that he would have left if we went down..

Obviously not, but there IS a middle ground. The world isn't divided into Matt Le Tiss and everyone else wanting to jump ship immediately.

do shut up..I know you have only been following saints since the cup final in 03, but please, stop showing your naivity in thinking players wont go if a better offer comes along...

2004 actually mate, I didn't even follow football until I started watching Saints. If your accusing me of jumping on a bandwagon then it was the one rolling off a cliff.

Why should we add in that factor? Every indication that he has given is that he is happy here and he certainly gives that impression.

i said IF..IF he wants to go...not when, but IF..

IF any player wants out...there is not alot we can do about it

saying IF, is a pretty normal thing to speculate about in modern day football

I wonder what lambert said 12 months ago about rovers, at the end of a successful season..did he say he was really enjoying it there and could not wait for the new season..?

I doubt he will go..but to claim it wont happen is naive at best

With respect, I think you are stating the bloody obvious here. SUrely the discussion is only worthwhile if we are talking about the likelihood of it.

The situation for keeping loan players is not in our hands or the player's if their clubs to not want to sell them or re-loan them, so it's not worth worrying too much about it.

As for our own players, any of our current squad would be foolish to leave for anything other than a Premiership club. They have too good a stage to play on to show their talents next season if they really want to move on. There is a lot of potential at Saints. It pays to have other good players around you if you want to look good yourself. I don't expect anyone to leave this year except possibly the loaners, or players that Pardew doesn't want.

This is just unsubstantiated nonsense really,

None of our big first 11 players have left nor are leaving, under offer etc etc.

The only one that has is one player that was on the fringes of the first squad (all be it he started to look pretty good) that was on loan and had a clause in his contract that meant he had to have a contract extension with his parent club.

It is not people breaking up the team, it is just situation and one where nobody else is in the same place.

As for Delldays and clarkys comments.

Bit harsh to say that he only looks at the negatives etc etc, i honestly don't think he will go, but he is what ?? 28 ?? If a prem team comes in, offers good wages and says he has a starting place, do you really think he wouldn't consider, v strongly, leaving ??

Papa's loan has an agreed purchase option with price built into it.

I think he means the majority of loans, a la Antonio.

The papa sort of thing only really happens when a club is actively looking to make a sale but clubs are not convinced.

As for the papa situation i guess its your SI connections that made you privvy

There are only two players on loan. Antonio is 50% of the loans so not the majority.

As for Papa...

From the article on the Saints OS from the day he signed.

The 25-year old, who joins from Serie A side Fiorentina, arrives at St. Mary's on loan until the end of the 2009/10 season, with an option to buy at the conclusion of the current campaign.

You are a pedantic pr*ck

You know what i meant.

As for the SI thing, it was meant as tongue in cheek.

I wasn't actually trying to prove points, was just saying.

Of course he is. Just like he was sure that Reading didn't have any say in Antonio's future.

Secondly you cannot prove either way that Antonio signed an extension or if it was automatically extended by Reading.

Where does it say there about a fee being agreed? The option could simply be first refusal for all you know.

Secondly, I don't need to prove anything. You were going on about it being nothing to do with Reading except for agreeing compensation, which was clearly wrong.

Not in the slightest. He's here to the end of the season, so isnt going to comment on Reading's site, but at the end of the season we have no hold over him, so the break up of the team will have started.

Come August, look forward to more "gelling" b*ll*cks...

Here we go again. Like Delldays, you are making assumptions. Why can we not also assume that he will sign on a 5 year contract for us and we will keep all the players we want to?

I have no axe to grind with any of you posters, but Alpine, you really do, quite often, manage somehow to, see the clouds in a sky full of silver linings. ;)

Whilst you may have a point, it isn't set in stone, and you could very well be wrong. Saints could have an incredibly strong squad for next season, which may well include Antonio, or it may not. I suspect Reading may be picking up the contract extension on Michail because he'll be quite a little money spinner for them, with Saints handing over the substantial cash. Or we could be back to some August gelling, as you say.

amazing, apparently this is not a wind up!

The squad is being broken up, as was always the plan.

If anyone was ever in any doubt whether to take this wind up merchant seriously...??

Like is said earlier, having a player returning to his previous club that was....all in all a fringe player, i.e not in our set in stone 8-9 regulars is hardly breaking up the team is it ??

We will do well next season, as we finished this season (our season was over when Oldham forced the draw).

I'll put my hand up and say i was a little worried over the xmas period when we were stumbling but fair play to AP, we found our feet again, and next year we will be the favourites our squad deserves to be.
