Bad news - the coalition would stutter on for a short time and we would be back to the polls before you know it. Any legislation proposed would have to be horsetraded just to ensure it got through.

Good news - Because chances are if we had a coalition in charge it would not include the Tories :)

Actually this thread will probably end up with the usual debate where those in favour of PR will highlight countries where things go well where there is no overall party in power and those against will highlight countries where it does not go well.

---

Also to some extent it depends on how 'hung' the parliament is. If say Labour plus the LibDems combined had a majority of 30 or so then it could work okay. If however either Lab or Con have to try to get a group of other parties together to get a small overall majority it will almost certainly be short lived and back to the polls we will go.

I'd rather have the Eton Mess in charge than a hung parliament.

What about the mess Ed Balls, Peter Hain, Tony Blair and Harriet Harmen have made, or do their public schools not count in your version of class warfare?

good news hopefully we can move to a age of new politics .

only tory and labour diehards would not like it and it would be a majority government based on votes in the country.

Bad news. We need a strong government that can make unpopular, but necessary decisions without delays and sqaubling. Also when I go on holdiay in September i want to get more Liras for my £ and a hung parliament will keep Sterling weak.

Here we call it a minority government. Sounds more positive than a "hung parliament".

A minority government can be very effective. The parties are forced to work together and that reduces some of the usual partisan nonsense. It also stops a government from forcing through legislation that a majority of the country doesn't agree with.

When I read this:

Yes, they are. They're just not a good government.

And I was basically going to write the same thing as VFTT, spot on.
