ladysaint Posted 23 September, 2008 Posted 23 September, 2008 Donny Rovers must be shaking in their boots, what can we do, what changes should be made, what formation should we play. We played with an experienced team last season and finished 4th from bottom, this season we are playing with our reserves where do we go from here.
fish fingers Posted 23 September, 2008 Posted 23 September, 2008 Can't wait, a day in the pub with my mates. I may even check the Saints score at 5.45.
Mr X Posted 23 September, 2008 Posted 23 September, 2008 I'm so looking forward to it the highlight of my week
benjii Posted 23 September, 2008 Posted 23 September, 2008 Two upfront. We have some decent players so let's keep it simple. John + Peckhart/McG upfront. KD back in goal. Lallana and Surman on the wings. Wotton in CM. KD back in goal. That's not such a week team. FFS if we keep it simple I'm sure we could stay up but this 4-2-1-2-1 / 4-1-2-2-1 won't work without the right players. At the moment we do not have them. Holmes was key to keeping the width and we can't seem to settle on e right winger. Dyer and BWP should've both been sacked - they're absolutely fecking useless and I would be happy if neither of them played for us again... Anyway, back to the intial positive tone... let's KEEP IT SIMPLE and see how we get on.
Neilza Posted 23 September, 2008 Posted 23 September, 2008 If were to keep the 4-2-3-1 it HAS to be with Stern playing central striker, Lallana behind him, skacel on the left, Thomson on the right. BWP and Dyer and useless at football and robbing people. Mcgoldrick won't get dropped, we all know he won't but he should because he isn't up to it either unfortunately.
Gemmel Posted 23 September, 2008 Posted 23 September, 2008 Donny Rovers must be shaking in their boots, what can we do, what changes should be made, what formation should we play. We played with an experienced team last season and finished 4th from bottom, this season we are playing with our reserves where do we go from here. The fact that this is being posted during a Saints game speaks volumes more than the post itself.
surrey1saint Posted 23 September, 2008 Posted 23 September, 2008 What can I say.......?? I'm going,hoping for something better!
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 23 September, 2008 Posted 23 September, 2008 Donny Rovers must be shaking in their boots, what can we do, what changes should be made, what formation should we play. We played with an experienced team last season and finished 4th from bottom, this season we are playing with our reserves where do we go from here. Down. Sorry, had to be said. Hope I'm not bursting any buubles!
Guest Hacienda Posted 23 September, 2008 Posted 23 September, 2008 I'm supposed to be going but as it's pay on the day I have to ask myself if I can actually be bothered.
rocknrollman no2 Posted 23 September, 2008 Posted 23 September, 2008 Play a simple 4-4-2 and leave McG on the bench.
saint_ed Posted 23 September, 2008 Posted 23 September, 2008 The team must be: -----------Davis---------- Cork----Perry----Svensson----Skacel ------------Wotton------------ Schneiderlin---------Surman -------------Lallana------------- --------John--------Pekhart------
gjphilsaint Posted 23 September, 2008 Posted 23 September, 2008 I am looking forward to saturday... rachel Stevens is in Strictly cum dancing
ladysaint Posted 23 September, 2008 Author Posted 23 September, 2008 Yes my bubble, I was really optimistic for this season, didnt expect us to run away with the championship but thought we would make a good show of ourselves and be able to be proud of the lads. The result tonight just isnt good enough, our gates are going to fall even lower now.
alpine_saint Posted 23 September, 2008 Posted 23 September, 2008 The team must be: -----------Davis---------- Cork----Perry----Svensson----Skacel ------------Wotton------------ Schneiderlin---------Surman -------------Lallana------------- --------John--------Pekhart------ I would go for that, but we've just wasted Killer for this week on tonights game..
Um Bongo Posted 23 September, 2008 Posted 23 September, 2008 4-4-2. It's not ****ing hard. Start John and Drop Mcgoldrick all together.
benjii Posted 23 September, 2008 Posted 23 September, 2008 The team must be: -----------Davis---------- Cork----Perry----Svensson----Skacel ------------Wotton------------ Schneiderlin---------Surman -------------Lallana------------- --------John--------Pekhart------ I agree largely although I would play Lallana wide and MS in the middle. I think I would pick McG ahead of Pekhart too.
saint_ed Posted 23 September, 2008 Posted 23 September, 2008 I would go for that, but we've just wasted Killer for this week on tonights game.. Truely poor decision to play Killer tonight. He is clealy not going to last the season, let alone more than 1 game a week. Jan should have realised this.
saint_ed Posted 23 September, 2008 Posted 23 September, 2008 I agree largely although I would play Lallana wide and MS in the middle. I think I would pick McG ahead of Pekhart too. Lallana totally drifts out of games when he plays out wide. He is your typical player in the hole and must play there IMO.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 23 September, 2008 Posted 23 September, 2008 Saturday is fast becoming the day, before the day, before the day when ridicule must be faced due to the football team I support.
benjii Posted 23 September, 2008 Posted 23 September, 2008 Lallana totally drifts out of games when he plays out wide. He is your typical player in the hole and must play there IMO. He totally drifts out of games when he plays in the hole too IMO. I'm not sure we can afford the luxury of a "hole" at the moment! Simple formation, simple tactics, with decent players giving 100%.
Rasiak-9- Posted 23 September, 2008 Posted 23 September, 2008 If in doubt, if the team isn't great, if players are inexperienced, then at the very least keep the team/formation/strategy 1) simple 2) balanced ----------Davis------------ Cork--Perry--Svensson--Mills (experienced keeper and CBs and decent enough young FBs) Lallana---Wotton--Schneiderlin--Surman (again, simple and balanced, left winger/right winger with two win-it-and-give-it CMs) John---Pekhart (two tall strikers who can bring others into play as well as score themselves) This team won't get promoted but its certainly good enough to stay up and at the very least beat teams like Doncaster.
saint_ed Posted 23 September, 2008 Posted 23 September, 2008 He totally drifts out of games when he plays in the hole too IMO. I'm not sure we can afford the luxury of a "hole" at the moment! Simple formation, simple tactics, with decent players giving 100%. Fair point, but drifts out more on the wing haha. On a serious note, its a fair point keeping it simple, and I agree. However, Lallana is one of the few players who is displaying a natural creative side, and reads the game very well. I think the team I suggested has been kept simple, contains experience and relative balance considering the players at our disposal.

The sad thing is, I bet neither of our line-ups have a hope in hell of being picked!

Exactly my point earlier. That team should be able to stay up. Stern is proven at this level and is a handful for the opposition. Wotton and Schneiderlin would be a very solid core in the middle. Surman and Lallana are capable of delivering ammunition to the front two from out wide, with hopefully Gasmi proving to be a good option too. Svennson still remains a concern but we have Thomas to come back at some point as cover and Lancashire could yet prove to be ready.
Daren W Posted 23 September, 2008 Posted 23 September, 2008 Donny Rovers must be shaking in their boots, what can we do, what changes should be made, what formation should we play. We played with an experienced team last season and finished 4th from bottom, this season we are playing with our reserves where do we go from here. Well i'm looking forward to it Jan. I've got my brother home from Oz and we're taking our mum to her first game for over a year... Let's hope the kids do her proud...
ladysaint Posted 23 September, 2008 Author Posted 23 September, 2008 are you really coming to Donny be great to see Mum but will she be able to make the trip.
Gemmel Posted 23 September, 2008 Posted 23 September, 2008 Well i'm looking forward to it Jan. I've got my brother home from Oz and we're taking our mum to her first game for over a year... Let's hope the kids do her proud... Daren, as mentioned in a PM we havent met, but hope your Mum has a blinding day and proves the lucky Saints mascot we have been missing .
St Marco Posted 23 September, 2008 Posted 23 September, 2008 Im looking forward to it as my bro lives in Sheffield so i get somewhere to stay for free Plus it will be the first time i've seen Doncaster play. I think we need to abandon the total ******** system now. The system doesn't work and you can see why it died in the 80's. Modern football requires all players to be able to cover other positions naturally. We have to play 2 up front. So i would have Lallana with John slightly behind him. John might not be the fastest player but he can keep the ball and bring others into the game and that is what we have been missing. Then i would have Skacel on the left and Thomson on the right. If Morgan and Gillet are ok then have them in centre. Defence i would have James,Svensson,Perry and Cork. Surman is not a defender. It is like what Burley did with Skacel in his 2nd season. And obviously i would have Kelvin in goal. No offence to Bart, he is young and needs experience. Maybe send him out on loan would do him some good. We need to play 4-4-2. Having 1 up front has failed. Why he persists with this i have no idea.
badgerx16 Posted 23 September, 2008 Posted 23 September, 2008 My youngest is playing in the brass band National Finals in Harrogate, so yes I am looking forward to Saturday.
saints_is_the_south Posted 23 September, 2008 Posted 23 September, 2008 Can't wait, a day in the pub with my mates. I may even check the Saints score at 5.45. +1.

egreog Posted 23 September, 2008 Posted 23 September, 2008 Saturday will be yet another disaster and nail in the coffin of this club...........sad but true, the whole thing has rotted away for years now, and I don't think I've seen such a shambolic club...........the crowds will dwindle away and the club will drift along the bottom of whatever leafue they find themselves in............It is a truly shocking scenario that fans face............but it does make you realise that there is a lot more in life than football........and does it really matter in the overall picture anyway!!??
Rod Le Shearer Posted 24 September, 2008 Posted 24 September, 2008 If in doubt, if the team isn't great, if players are inexperienced, then at the very least keep the team/formation/strategy 1) simple 2) balanced ----------Davis------------ Cork--Perry--Svensson--Mills (experienced keeper and CBs and decent enough young FBs) Lallana---Wotton--Schneiderlin--Surman (again, simple and balanced, left winger/right winger with two win-it-and-give-it CMs) John---Pekhart (two tall strikers who can bring others into play as well as score themselves) This team won't get promoted but its certainly good enough to stay up and at the very least beat teams like Doncaster. the lack of pace in that team,is shocking. a turtoise would sprint circles round that lot. but maybe they could create some chances from set pieces (if they manage to get to the byline in 90 minutes)
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 24 September, 2008 Posted 24 September, 2008 Our 'group' that was intending to go up has been whittled down from 4 to 1 (me) over the course of this and last week and 'm only going because I bought the match the match and train ticket well in advance.
David Strover Posted 24 September, 2008 Posted 24 September, 2008 I'll be in Lisbon so I am looking forward to Saturday, plus I'm keeping away from TVs!
bungle Posted 24 September, 2008 Posted 24 September, 2008 If I can see the football through the alcohol fuelled haze then I'm sure it will be awesome.
Isla Wight Posted 24 September, 2008 Posted 24 September, 2008 Daren - really hope you and your Mum have a great day on Saturday irrespective of the result.
Daren W Posted 24 September, 2008 Posted 24 September, 2008 are you really coming to Donny be great to see Mum but will she be able to make the trip. If Doncaster is too much, and I think it might be, then she is defintely going to Norwich game. Come on people, if she can go and get behind the boys so can you. Forget Rupert Lowe, forget Michael Wilde, just get your arses down to St Marys and give these boys some support...
solentstars Posted 24 September, 2008 Posted 24 September, 2008 If Doncaster is too much, and I think it might be, then she is defintely going to Norwich game. Come on people, if she can go and get behind the boys so can you. Forget Rupert Lowe, forget Michael Wilde, just get your arses down to St Marys and give these boys some support...good post thats what i expect from true fans who go threw bad times and good ,not the negative moaners who keep on about lowe, wilde andcertain players all the time.give your team support.they will have good and bad performances this season. for the last 3 seasons we have lost to lower league teams in the cup.
Kaiser Soze Posted 24 September, 2008 Posted 24 September, 2008 I'm giving careful consideration to missing Doncaster - watching Saints just isn't the same anymore
Shroppie Posted 24 September, 2008 Posted 24 September, 2008 The team must be: -----------Davis---------- Cork----Perry----Svensson----Skacel ------------Wotton------------ Schneiderlin---------Surman -------------Lallana------------- --------John--------Pekhart------ Would go with that but think Schneiderlin is injured.
OldNick Posted 24 September, 2008 Posted 24 September, 2008 If Doncaster is too much, and I think it might be, then she is defintely going to Norwich game. John B Posted 24 September, 2008 Posted 24 September, 2008 The team must be: -----------Davis---------- Cork----Perry----Svensson----Skacel ------------Wotton------------ Schneiderlin---------Surman -------------Lallana------------- --------John--------Pekhart------ Why?
Kaiser Soze Posted 24 September, 2008 Posted 24 September, 2008 After careful consideration I can confirm my attendance, tanked up with beer from 9am
Appy Posted 24 September, 2008 Posted 24 September, 2008 i will now be making the trip. Not sure how much i'm looking forward to it though.
Michelle Posted 24 September, 2008 Posted 24 September, 2008 I'm looking forward to it, if only for the fact I'm gonna be away from home for a couple of days, hopefully it'll help me relax after the multiple traumas of yesterday - both on and off the pitch!
offix Posted 24 September, 2008 Posted 24 September, 2008 The only people looking forward to next Saturday will be the opposing team. Easy pickings.
broncoboy Posted 24 September, 2008 Posted 24 September, 2008 The fans are not giving up on the club the club is giving up on us
simo Posted 24 September, 2008 Posted 24 September, 2008 Its always the games we are expected to lose we do well in and the easy games we are crap in! We will win well on saturday!
