I guess it shows how deperate they are. Any lefties care to comment?

Johnny Bognor Posted 11 April, 2010 Author Share Posted 11 April, 2010 (edited) It's a cu*ts trick. This has Medelsome written all over it. Sending postcards to people saying that voting tory could put your life at risk is despicable. Especially when a number of families who have recently lost loved ones to cancer received the cards. The woman featured on the card was told that the photo was for an NHS magazine. To abuse this trust and use her predicament for political gain shows Fraudon and Medolsome for what they are. I just hope the other political parties do not sink to their level. How anyone can vote for this lot I will never know. Johnny Bognor Posted 11 April, 2010 Author Share Posted 11 April, 2010 I was just going to say this. It's typical of that vile creature. He played on Mo Mowlems cancer to become minister for NI. He is lower than all of the sleazy politicians and we can't even give him a bloody nose at the ballot box.

Mandelson is a c*nt, why brown is still flirting with him is beyond me, surely you'd have thought he was the very last creature brown would take back into the fold given the animosity between brown and blair

I'm sure him and Mandelson are birds of a feather which probably explains why they don't like each other.
Colinjb Posted 11 April, 2010 Share Posted 11 April, 2010 I amy be a Tory anyway, but as someone who lost a grandparent to cancer I am utterly horrified at this. Scum doesn't cover it.

From reading the entire article, it would appear that the cards are generated from a database used by both Tories & Labour ( "Experian, the data management company, confirmed that both Labour and the Conservatives use its Mosaic database, which divides voters into 67 groups. The databases can use anonymised hospital statistics, including postcodes and the diagnoses of patients, to identify the likely addresses of those with particular illnesses" ). This is not to suggest this is a correct use of such information, I personally think it isn't, but it would appear that there is no breach of the DP Act as the information seems to be some sort of 'reverse engineering' process based on publicly, ( commercially ), available databases. Smells too much of Mandy's cynical dirty tricks department. I bet the Tories are just thankful that Labour used this data first.

From reading the entire article you're just showing off now don't you know the rules of the off topic forums?!!! read the headline from a joke newspaper, leap to a conclusion, become utterly irate (yawn) and then fire off half a dozen posts before your thoughts have even had the chance to settle. that's how we do things here! I am aware of the Mosaic database and if this was used there is no technical breach as the database is widely available for list rental. However, if you actually read the entire article, as I did (rather than try to find excuses) it actually states that both parties have used the database for mail shots. It didn't state that the Mosaic database was specifically used in this case. It is still not clear which list was used and this needs clarification. Vince Cable has just been on the news asking for clarification, so it is not as cut and dried as you suggest. Away from the technical arguments, it does not get away from underhand scaremongering tactics don't you know the rules of the off topic forums?!!! read the headline from a joke newspaper, leap to a conclusion, become utterly irate (yawn) and then fire off half a dozen posts before your thoughts have even had the chance to settle. ..... followed by some smart arse not actually reading the article correctly in response to said poster ...... followed by some joker trying to be a smart arse but coming unstuck because he failed to notice that the responder couldn't read (even a joke newspaper) and therefore ends up looking a bit of a **** Edited 11 April, 2010 by Johnny Bognor
IamLeGod Posted 11 April, 2010 Share Posted 11 April, 2010 I really hate that this is what politics has come to. It is a vile act by some very vile creatures. Messrs Blair and Campbell have a lot to answer for in relation to what they have done to modern day politics. New Labour really have lost sight of what their party is meant to stand for. They are no longer concerned with helping the people that struggle to help themselves. They have become a disgusting, shameless machine concerned solely with spin, PR victories and electoral success. Though don't get me wrong. As I have said before Cameron is IMO simply Blair Mk II. The Tories are just as guilty. Living in Leeds as a student, it is rare you come across someone that hasn't had their house broken into. Walking out and about on my travels today I see a massive poster with a picture of gordon looking stupid and the caption "i let 30,000 criminals out of prison early. vote for me." and then their stupid vote for change thing at the bottom. This is in principle pretty close to what Labour have done here, and a pretty damning inditement of what politics has descended to. It really is no wonder so many people are so disillusioned with mainstream parties.

badgerx16 Posted 12 April, 2010 Share Posted 12 April, 2010 Another viewpoint: They sent out 250,000 cards as the first phase of the campaign, some of which, landed on the mats of former cancer patients. What is the statistical chance of finding some cancer patients in a tranche of a quarter of a million people ? Who'd have thought it. Bad judgement to send the things out - quite possibly, targetting this group specifically - no.
bridge too far Posted 12 April, 2010 Share Posted 12 April, 2010 According to Cancer UK, more than 1 in 3 people in the UK will develop a cancer of some form. So Badger's right - the chances are high that this leaflet will land on the doorstep of a cancer sufferer or the friend or relative of someone with cancer. http://info.cancerresearchuk.org/prod_consump/groups/cr_common/@nre/@sta/documents/generalcontent/018070.pdf As the relative of a cancer sufferer who was diagnosed within weeks and treated, at a cost of £300K over 10 years, I'm only too well aware of the good service offered currently. It would be a shame if the huge improvements in the health service (as highlighted by the Kings Fund yesterday) were to be lost. But I do think the leaflet campaign could have been handled better.
