This is one very important game for us.

So - IF we beat Brizzle and Gills; and IF Hudds/Colch is a draw, we'll be 3 points behind both of them.

My bad. Should've looked at the three fixtures before Gillingham!

Well, we know we probably need to win the next 6 in a row, which is possible if unlikely, but now all we need, if we manage that, is for Colchester and Huddersfield to get at least one loss and one draw each.

Hopefully they'll draw against each other.

Tony Cottee was saying that Swindon were the better team against Colchester today, and Huddersfield were awful today, so anythings possible. Next weeks fixtures are:

Saints

BR away on Tuesday

Yeovil away on Sat

Huddersfield

Wallsall HOME on Tues

Millwall HOME on Friday

Colchester

Hartlepool AWAY on Tues

Charlton AWAY on Sat

Im worred about Huddersfield being at Home twice but if we can keep up with them or even catch up some more points then who knows

Just got back. Enjoyable game to watch but score could have been very different if it wasn't for Davis. At least 3 amazing saves.

Not sure what game charlton were playing (or the ref for that matter) there were at least 4 handball incidents and the ref gave none.

Thought Northam sounded amazing from itchen first half. Atmosphere died down a bit second half.

How it didn't end up a draw after the last ten minutes scrambles I dint know!

How very differentbour playoff chances look now!

Bring on Bristol! COYR!

How about if Huddersfield lose to Millwall and then beat Colchester, that would do our play-off campaign no end of good, or so I think.

With that scenario we could be just a couple of points off the play-off places

on the 1st May,provided we keep winning of course. If we win on Tuesday well then we might just make it and that coming from a member of the "no chance brigade" is optimal optimism.

A really entertaining game, end to end and could have easily ended 2-2 - but we have to thank Davis that we won that, he pulled off some fantastic saves (Although some of the shots were straight at him, his reactions were superb)

Lambert didn't look fit to me today, i noticed him hobbling around after about 20mins - i don't think he ever recovered from that as he struggled to dominate against a pretty solid back 2 of Daily and Sodje.

We dug deep in the end and clawed out a priceless result, the teams above us are within reach. People are forgetting our GD as well, which is worth an extra point as no one in the chasing pack will gain on our GD of +31 by the end of the season. So really, we're 7 points off with a game in hand.

All we can do now is keep winning, i honestly don't think we can drop any more points now - we have to keep this pressure up, the teams are starting to look down at us. We are the worst team they want to turn up in the playoffs, as we'll most probably win them.

It's still a long-shot...but more do-able than it was at 3pm today!

A lot of ifs I know, but this time next week theoretically we could be 2 points behind Huddersfield and Colchester with a game in hand :smt107

I can see Huddersfield losing to Millwall, and Colchester losing both games, the big problem though is us winning 2 aways in a week, The Gas will be tough.

Will we reach the playoffs? Not very bloody likely at all. Am I a happy bunny anyway? Definitely.

We may not have been great today, but what any team needs is to be able to hold their cool and sometimes win the games they don't dominate. This is one of the many things that Saints have been losing out on for what seems like forever.

A very hard fought and entertaining match, but we deserved the win, as we scored a cracking goal and then defended doggedly, but had chances to have scored others. The defence were superb, especially Harding and Fonte, although Seabourne and Otsemobor were also solid too. A special mention must go to Kelvin, who made three top drawer saves that kept the clean sheet and the points.

I must confess feeling surprised that Pardew had started with Antonio instead of Barnard, but apparently Puncheon was to be the striker playing off Lambert, or what would have made more sense, the extra midfielder in the centre with a roving brief, with Antonio playing wide. Whatever the system was, it produced the desired effect, as it was Puncheon who fed Antonio for the goal. Antonio is a much improved player since his arrival here and has shown that he is not afraid to shoot when given the opportunity. Sometimes his shooting is haphazard, but often he does have a good shot, like today, a real striker's goal.

Charlton made their changes in an attempt to get back into the game and did threaten on occasion. But although there were some heart in mouth moments, as time went by, it seemed as if it was our day.

I cannot remember quite so many hand-ball appeals by us, none of which were given, or so many seemigly faulty decisions by the linesmen. Nearly every time the ball went out, you expected it to be our throw and it wasn't, but happily it also seemed that the linesmen were equally random in giving us the throw when I thought it was Charlton's.

Another feature of the game was that Charlton's players are either a load of powder puffs, or cheating bastards, as they went down as if pole-axed whenever we went within a yard of them. I do detest this cheating and despise the teams that practise it.

As I was leaving the stadium at the final whistle in an attempt to clear the road works at Mount Pleasant Road, I heard a mighty cheer or two raise the roof. Apparently it was to welcome West Ham's win that relegated the Skates. Further cheering I supect for the announcement of other results in our division that went in our favour and took us closer to Huddersfield.

The play-offs remain a distant prospect, but we are one small step closer to them today. I wonder whether the players have that belief in them that they can win every game until the end of the season? We have beaten Charlton, Leeds, Norwich, Huddersfield, MK Dons, all of the top teams apart from Swindon. We really ought to believe that we are as good as anybody in this division bar none, provided that we have that belief in ourselves and play with maximum effort as a team.

And we're now mathematically "safe", if that helps.

mathematically we can still get promoted automatically on goal difference;)

The play-offs is still a possibility but we have to win our remaining games, draws are like losses now.

Very satisfied with our league position so far, a lot of positive signs for next season should we be in this division

Huddersfield are only looking at Colchester, and Colchester are only looking at Huddersfield....Reason being is that the race is realistically between those two. We don't have a chance in hell of both of those two failing while we win all our games.......However, we need to carry on the way we are doing if only to solidify in the minds of the players what we will be gunning for next season. Even failure at reaching the playoffs will be seen positively if we have been seen to have never given up. Team spirit is what will keep our current players at the club and attract new signings.

PS I'm a tad drunk, so please excuse the pointlessness of this post. ;)

Just discount the settling in period at the start of the season and we are golden. :) I did that a long time ago!

Being an eternal opimist in Saints related things .... (I should know better by the amount of times I have been let down though ) .... whilst it is still mathmatically possible within reasonable boundaries, I still keep hoping, but too many silly dropped points and lack of games left will be our undoing.

For me if we could finish within 10 points of the top 2, or at least the top 6, that would be a moral victory.

this next week is going to be key... come 5pm next sat and we could be so so close to the playoffs....

The key weeks have long gone, you can keep this up to make something out of the remainder of the season, but it's just whistling in the wind.

What's going to get really interesting is those wanting to swap the Wembley appearance round when we get close!

Good game and we deserved to win. Thought we had the far better of it and looking at the stats it shows how much better we were technically. We had 56% possesion, had 15 shots to their 5 of which 1 was on target, they had more corners.

On a great run of games and consistently at the 2 points a game ratio which is impressive. Think based over the last 8 games we are 2nd in form, i would imagine rampaging Millwall are 1st. Some great results going our way too. Win our game in hand and have 5 games to make up 5 points. It is going to be close, but you never know. I am sure if we had say 8 games left to play we would of made it for sure.

i must be getting old because i am enjoying winning 1 nil as much as 5-1.

not convinced by Seabourne, does not win enough of the really important balls imo. hence why Fonte was my MOM.

Lets hope Huddersfield/Colchester do like Saints did in the late 40's and blow a big lead

KD MoM - had he not been in goal we'd have conceded two or three. Not sure about Rickie's free kick down the Chapel end being a goal kick in the 2nd half? Was sure the keeper tipped it. Referee was appauling - so many hand balls he missed although he let the one go in our penalty area - that one was deffo ball to hand though.

Overall, I felt Saints wanted it today, they chased the ball which I haven't seen in the last two matches. COYR
