Election Canvassers

Have never had one come to my door in my life. Though saying this I have lived in Ruislip - one of the safest tory seats in the country and now Leeds one of the Labour strong holds.

Have done some voluntary work, including canvassing, for parties as part of my A-levels and degree. And can be an unenviable job.

Had a Tory around last week. One of my dogs (a chocolate labrador ffs) nearly tore him a new arsehole. She only ever barks at people, normally. This time she really went for him.:D

Good girl! I'll buy her one of these if you set her on the BNP and Labour candidates too:

No canvassers here in Cameron country and I think it's unlikely the Tories will come calling - it's in the bag for them.

We have had 3 separate leaflet deliveries from them this morning. Mr TF raced out when the third one arrived, holding the leaflet like it was a dog turd, and asked them not to deliver any more as our recycle bin was already full :D

I've told this story before about how, when I lived near Guildford, I managed to detain the then Tory candidate for about 20 minutes by pretending to be undecided. Then his eyes lit upon our collection of historical trade union posters. He did have the grace to smile and admit I'd 'got him'. Still 20 minutes with me meant less chance of his persuading others.

New media channels mean there is less far reason for door knocking in 2010. People pick their stuff up from TV, papers, internet and more these days.

Politicians only knock doors effectively now in genuinely marginal seats or when they know they are being followed by a media crew which will be broadcast on TV as well.

Can very much assure you this isn't true!

Did 5 hours of canvassing yesterday, and 5 more ahead today!

Actually, this is also guff. The last thing politicians want to do is have the media following them around canvassing. If people answer a door and a camera is there, their reaction isn't likely to be natural. The only reason this would happen is if media insisted on following a canvassing session.
