Fergie dropped a complete bollock bringing on O'Shea for Rooney, was over as soon he done that. he should have taken Carrick and Rooney off and put on O'Shea and Berbatov and stuck to the original game plan and hope Fletcher and Gibson can do enough in the middle. Basically playing 30 minutes with nothing upfront is just asking for trouble, Bayern had just far too much of the ball and as soon as Robben banged it in the tie was over, they where content to sit back. Fergie should take all the blame today.

Yep stupid tactics Nani may have pace but cant hold the ball up and it was just coming back and back - you may get away with it against Hull/Burnley/Skates but not teams in Champions League. Ferguson only has the Premiership to go for now and I worry he may use Rooney again and totally blow his injury further than it is now.

SuperMikey Posted 8 April, 2010 Share Posted 8 April, 2010 Of course, how silly of me to forget! Messi? Iniesta? Try Lallana and Schneiderlin! Bayern were a complete shambles in the first half though, Butt had an awful 45 minutes in goal and Man Utd should've been more than 3-1 up at HT. While they were shakey at the back, they've got one of the best attacking 6's outside of the UK imo, being able to bring on players like Gomez and Altintop from the bench is incredible. Robben is easily one of the best wingers in the world, only slightly behind the likes of Ronaldo and Messi in my estimations, and Ribery, Schweinsteiger and Olic are always dangerous in front of goal. If I was SAF last night, I would've lined up a bit like: -------Van Der Sar------ O'Shea--Vidic--Rio--Evra -----Fletcher--Carrick--- Valencia---Giggs----Nani ---------Berbatov------- Bring on Rooney for Giggs at about 60 minutes, and Rafael on for O'Shea at about the same time, with Park replacing Valencia or Nani depending on who is playing better. What United lack is some genuine pace up front, but seeing that they've signed Javier Hernandez today subject to a work permit has given me more confidence that they can go on and win the Premiership next year. Without the pace and threat of Ronaldo this season, and disregarding Rooney's form, they've looked a little bit weak up front this season. Without Rooney they'd been nowhere near 2nd imo. They seriously need to sign a world class striker to give some much needed firepower up front and to compliment Rooney, because Berbatov is way too inconsistent. You should always start an injury worry, always (if you are going to risk them that is !!) otherwise you could be in the situation where you put someone on and then have to take them off. I also think you underestimate Rooneys pace really, he is deceptively quick, also a lot of ronaldos goals were from the quick counter attacks, not from being released through on goal. Fergie did drop a clanger not putting berbatov on earlier, i turned and said in the pub that they needed him on 15 minutes before he actually came on the pitch, it just meant that anything played forward was going to come straight back, and duly did. Well done to Bayern though, they fought back, why do the Germans seem to get all the luck ?? Fioreintina, Juve and manure ??

Germans always get the job done lol A lot of teams would have folded after Man U's third went in but the BM didn't panic and struck just when Man U least expected, which turned the tie. The German teams have always done the basics very well and have a certain resilience, and when on top have a certain ruthlessness. They've always played the game the same way regardless of who their playing. Take when Germany played San Marino a few years ago in the euro qualifiers. A lot of teams would have taken their foot off the gas after going 3-4 nil up. Not the germans, they played the whole game like a world cup final and ended up winning 13-0!!! Bad night for Fergie in many ways though, bizarre team selection. Gibson - great goal but too inexperienced at that level and Rooney clearly wasn't anywhere near match fit and was limping almost from the off. And whenever Man U lose it's always the fault of the other team or the ref.

No, they definitely need(ed) another striker, in my view the failure to properly replace Teves has cost Man Utd big time. Ronaldo of course you simply cannot replace, Valencia was a good signing but clearly not of the same class. Rooney played on Wednesday as Ferguson didn't have enough faith in Berbatov to start with him so another option would have been more than useful. United's squad is chock full of defenders and midfield players but I do agree they need to replace Scholes who is surely coming to the end of his career. Maybe him and Giggs one more season ? Shame Owen Hargreaves has not had a chance to prove himself, very mobile player and I can even recall him playing RB and doing well.

Unless they can get rid of Berbatov there's no way they will bring in another 20m+ striker, Especially now Javier Hernandez has signed. Fergie just likes his 4-5-1 too much to sign another big name striker, they really need another player like Ronaldo who can do a job out wide or upfront.
